Pats should offer 3rd rounder for Kyle Pitts and convert him to WR

I would say the Pats should explore a trade, but I don't know if I would give up too much. It is hard to tell what Pitts' ceiling really is because he has had crap QBs throwing to him most of his career (broken down Matt Ryan, Marcus Mariotta, Desmond Ridder, and Kirk Cousins). He could be an elite receiving TE in the right system and finally live up to his draft hype. But I am not sure you want to give up too much to be on that with him in the last year of his rookie deal (on his fifth year option).

I might rather trade for McLaurin if the Commanders want to trade him. Although he is a bit up there in age.

I think it all comes down to what the new McDaniels offense is going to look like. In the past, TE was a very important position and they liked to utilize two TEs a lot. But that was more of a Belichick philosophy than a Vrabel. Belichick has always loved having two TEs who could produce and a focal point in his offense going back to the Charlie Weis days. Not sure how much McDaniels is married to it now. If he is, Pitts might be worth the trade.

I don't think the upgrade over whoever the Pats have to take off the field is that high. He's not going to leap up in capability at this point in his career, regardless of coaching or QB.

I could see trading a pick for good depth on the OL at this point, but not WR. We've got layers of average there already.

We did not fix this team in one offseason. This roster was so bad one year ago that we need 2 more offseasons to really fix it. We don't need to give up capital for broken players. If he hits free agency, then take a flyer on him. If we are going to truly upgrade the WR or TE positions, don't waste time of reclamation projects. Go and get elite prospects who are young and can grow with Drake. At least two goals this season is 1) have a winning season, and 2) make NE an attractive place for free agents.

Why?

There’s already an Ef-ton of WR wannabes on the roster, so many that we don’t know what to do with them all.

Why trade for a former WR turned TE after not cutting it as a WR then underperforming as a TE?

Not to mention, he’d be our best blocking WR since N’Keal Harry, just in case he can’t run routes and catch better than N’Keal….
I thought that's Hollins

6-6. 245 4.4 40

Instantly becomes our best WR
Would be unstoppable as WR in red zone
I am not opposed to trading for him. I wouldn't transition him to WR though. Keep him as a TE... the reason for doing so is money... TE franchise tenders are 16m... WR tenders are 28m next year... big difference right there...

Pitts is on the last year of his deal, playing out his 5th year option this year. Giving up a third is too much. No more than a 4th for him. And we are going to have to pay him, work an extension with him prior to any trade... otherwise its just a one year rental...

so how much?
per OTC "George Kittle signed a four year contract extension worth $76.4 million with the 49ers on April 30, 2025. $35 million is fully guaranteed including an $18.145 million signing bonus. The new money guarantee on the contract is $20 million."

Pitts has a cap hit of $11m, all of which would transfer to his new team.
he also is signed for only the 2025 until he hits free agency.
hard to give up draft capital while taking on salary, for 1 year of a player.
he is an interesting player, but with Henry, Hooper, Diggs, WIlliams, Pop and maybe Chism, Polk I don't see him as worth the gamble.

if Atl would entertain a Bourne for Pitts deal, I would have interest

This would be an idiotic trade for Atlanta. Their new QB needs all the playmakers he can have at his disposal.

Would trading Pitts change that? Is he really a playmaker, based on his stats?

While he certainly hasn't lived up to his hype since his rookie season, you'd be weakening your team for no reason.

Could be strengthening the team, if his replacement performs better than Pitts has. Thats not a particularly high bar.

When he was drafted, he was 245 lbs (he's now listed at 250). And he ran a ridiculous 40 time. I looked at him as having the potential of being a 6'6 245 lb version of the 6'5 240 lb Calvin Johnson as his ceiling. I also believed Atlanta should have designated him as, and used him as a WR since the day he was drafted. I would only trade for him if he agrees to a 1 year extension (so that we have more than just the last year of his Rookie Contract to see if he's worth keeping long-term). And, we designate him as a WR, and use him primarily as a WR.
Hahahaha. No. He doesn't deserve mention in the same breath as Calvin Johnson.

CJ put up 1,500 yards per year in his prime.

Pitts is a 600 yard per season dude.

Does he have some potential? I mean he's still 24 so he could get better. But I don't expect him to transform into Calvin Johnson.

Let's be real. I'd offer a 6th round pick at most since he's gonna be a free agent at end of year anyways.

Pitts, Noah Fant… there’s a bunch of TE’s who never live up to their extraordinary measurables.

Measurables are only half the equation.
