Most likely Grier sucks otherwise he wouldn’t be QB3 on this team, but he can’t honestly be that much worse than the other two so why not give him a shot.

He is QB3 because he is worse than the other two. That is why the Pats moved Grier to the PS.

Zappe will not be the starter next year. I don’t think he will be on the roster. But who know on the latter until we see who the head coach will be.

If he throws for 350 yards, 320 of them would be YAC. And without Douglas, who is going to get that YAC?

If Belichick believes that he was capable of putting up such numbers, why would he wait until game 11 to start him after Belichick has guaranteed he would be fired.

Belichick started Brady over Bledsoe. I doubt he would have been afraid to pull Mac if he thought Zappe was any good.

I love all the intangibles of Zappe - he has some swag, clam demeanor, his teammates respond to him. I just wish he had more physical talent. He reminds me of Case Keenum.

Ya, but that doesn't speak well for him either. If he sucks when he's sharing reps, or looking over his shoulder at Mac... it doesn't show he has that killer instinct to ignore the pressure and just take the job. If there was ever a season to do that, it'd be this one. And it's as if both Mac & Zappe have crumbled under the pressure of competition.

Which leads me to go in a whole new direction next year.

I've been a Mac supporter all the way until Germany @Colts. But it's over for him in NE.
And I'm happy to be proven wrong about Zappe, but I have 0% belief that he'll turn into anything.
I could see Mac being sent to wherever JMD gets a OC job next year, or stay here 1 more year as a backup IF there's a total regime change.

But, IF BB slips by the noose, I think he'll go back to what he always did...
1. sign a vet QB who can manage an offense (Cousins, Mayfield, Siemian)
2. trade down - draft 1-3 rd. OL/DL, draft a 3-4 round QB to compete with vet, draft a TE, Edge
3. sign FA WR, RB

The Browns played the Tua led Dolphins, the Brady led Bucs, the Herbert led Chargers, the Burrow led Bengals, the Josh Allen led Bills and the Lamar led Ravens last season.

Zappe put up the second highest point total and 4th most passing yards the Cleveland defense allowed all last season, better than all these ^ guys in his second career start... but I guess it's all relative.

He can only play the team in front of him… but you only want to use relativity when it fits your narrative.

I saw enough of Zappe last week. He stares down his receivers. It will not end well. He should have learned this skill set by now.
That being said the Chargers D is bad and they are traveling west to east playing the early game. So he could win this one.
No matter who starts next Thursday it will be ugly. Pittsburgh's D is one of the best in the league.

They dumbed down the playbook for him and one game they ran the ball and managed his throws. His shelf life wasn't for very much longer if he continued to start.

And who said Belichick was an incompetent boob?!? His problem is more his stubborness in not being willing to adapt to today's NFL. I never said he cannot judge his roster even if he cannot evaluate talent coming out of college. Besides O'Brien is the guy who calls the plays and he doesn't trust Zappe to throw down the field.
