Or, being a successful corporate executive requires a lot of blame-shifting and CYA techniques.

We're too accustomed in the USA to assuming that there's anything transferable or magical about business practices. I see it in my work all the time when they hire consultants who don't know ****e from shinola to come in and lecture us, the experts, on what we're doing. It's a waste of time.

Yeah, corporate leadership is almost an oxymoron. Furthest thing from a coach. I cherish the 2 bosses I've had in my life who actually coached their workers to be in positions to succeed.

6 years in, we are getting close to no return. Great article to consider....

Patriots can’t bring back both Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf | Matt Vautour

They had good years in 2019 and 2021, so to me it got reset. Problem is we got used to 3 scalding hot chicks at the same time every week, so 2021 was just 1 decent looking chick and felt like just the same as not having one, comparatively.

Apologies for the misogyny...

"Kraft’s ego put him in this spot. Overcommitting to Mayo whenever he put the head-coach-in-waiting clause in his contract was a mistake. Not conducting a search for both gigs after firing Bill Belichick was a massive blunder."

Bobby is the king for finding loopholes and getting out of situations like this. He did it recently with Antonio Brown. You'd think he could've fired Mayo before Bill. However, we've discussed this before on the board that the media speculated there was another clause that stated Mayo was owed $10M if fired. This is why Mayo was named HC.

But that 2021 team had two issues which were the same issue:

1. A bunch of old veterans who played hard and did their jobs, which lead to a number of wins.

2. A bunch of old veterans who were past their prime and slow, so teams like the Bills sliced through them easily.

Kraft DOES need to admit his mistake.
No, he does not. He owns the team. He can do whatever he wants. He has no need to admit his so-called mistakes to posters.

Please tell me how much money Kraft has lost on the patriots and associated enterprises since Brady left. Please tell me how much less the team is worth.

If there are losses and the team decreases in value, he and Jonathan might re-evaluate the need to run the team in a different way. perhaps the way one of the fans might want to run it.

Forbes:
2019 value - $4.1 Billion
2024 value - $7.4 Billion

You're funny.

Would value be the most accurate measurement, valuations can be inflated and such. It'd be interesting to see if there is a drop in rate of profit. But also, football teams have many streams of revenue, so it might be difficult to account for all of that. Every single football team has SOARED in value, hence the introduction of private equity.

Did the Krafts ever offer the opportunity to Brady that the Raiders did?

It would have been a small price to pay to have a real football mind help with decisions like management choices.

Based on his ruthless pursuit of the job and how he has conducted himself since he became HC of the NEP, Mayo took the leadership training seriously. It is clear that he has received advanced training in the ADM model of leadership. Admit nothing, Deny everything and Make counter accusations.

Good question, I'm not sure!

Quick ALL-22 review this week, not as much free time this week and next so will not start own thread as not as in depth.

Is it players or coaches? Both. Many plays in this game showed it is both.

Positives:
-Layden Robinson played his best game. I thought he was pretty bad every other game so not as great as it sounds but this is the first game he played I thought he might actually end up an NFL starter. He had the holding call, kind of a weird hold IMO but was called and can see why ref did but kind of questionable. He totally whiffed in the red zone on 3rd and 1, totally whiffed a 2nd level block early in the game. However, was one of the few guys getting actual push on the line (Onwenu the other) and his pass blocking was solid. Arizona is not great on the line but major step forward IMO.
-Gonzalez and Maye continue to show they are stars.
-Marcus Jones is a player, is sad to see he has more YAC ability than any receiver on the team. You can see what a Travis Hunter at WR could do.
-Dell Pettus got beat a couple times but they had him on McBride 1 on 1 quite a bit and he should have had help. The few times McBride was covered by Dugger or Peppers they couldn't stay within 5 yards.
-I thought Barmore had his best game, not back to last year but a step forward.

-They have some players that can help moving forward.

-Lowe had his worst game in a long time, Ben Brown was terrible also. Onwenu was good, Jacobs was solid and Robinson was Ok but for him that's actually a big step up.
-In terms of coaching, if you are going to see what the younger players can do, why don't you play them?
-Alex Austin 25 snaps but J Jones gets 42? Austin was OK in this game, got beat a few times but wasn't thrown to, still shows some closing speed but, again, seems to need it too often as he has trouble sticking with receivers. Would like to see him get more snaps and see what happens.
-Pettus gets 18 snaps yet Dugger and Peppers are 70 and 69. Peppers took bad angles all game long. Dugger looked the best he has but still lacks coverage skills and took a bad angle on the big Dortch play.

Reviewing some of the important/interesting plays in the game
-The play call that caused the Kraft's to look miffed: Lowe missed his bock right away, at the same time Henry AND Robinson both whiffed on their second level blocks. 3 missed blocks on the play. So not sure the play call was the issue, that 1 was on the players.
-The big play to Dortch was a sample of bad players and bad coaching. They had M. Jones and Pettus covering 2 guys. It was a WR screen and because it was thrown behind the line the TE was legally allowed to block Jones as ball was in the air. Pettus probably should have seen that and switched, but the coaching on that was poor as they were in man and neither CB looked to switch. Peppers then took a bad angle and Dugger then missed an open field tackle. It was a good play call but poorly defended which was the fault of the defensive coaching and the players.
-Final TD run at the goal line for the Cards the alignment made it easy, Card had basically 4 blockers on 2 guys in the hole they ran thru. Terrible defensive alignment, that was on the coaches.
-On the Pats 3rd and 1 Robinson blew a block and then on the 4th and 1 Lowe missed a block causing Sow at FB to have to block his guy, leaving the LB unblocked to fill the hole.

Here are some off-season moves:
1-Sign Cam Robinson, he's not great but he's solid and a step up and probably the best that will actually be available.
2-Sign Higgins, if he gets to free agency he's easily the #1 target, overpay f you must
3-If you do those 2 things then draft Hunter. He's by far the best prospect so just do it.
4-If you do all the above I'd then go after Chase Young, yeah he's been disappointing, but he is probably the best edge rusher FA, Reddick might be a sneaky other option.

Alternative:
The other option is to trade down, if you can find someone to give you enough capital that you can trade back up to the end of the first, take Carter and trade back up for someone like Emeka Egbuka
Carter is the best edge rush prospect in the draft but not sure he's a 3 down player but in a weak draft he'd be the best option. I'm 100% in on Hunter but I'm not going to ignore all trade possibilities or ignore the fact he might not be there when they pick.
Cam Robinson was my initial want at LT, but I have since pivoted to Alaric Jackson mostly because of his age. I imagine that the Rams resign him, but hope he wants to test the market. I am also intrigued by Jaylon Moore at LT at a swing T, and cut Lowe.

In fact I would like the most of the OL rebuilt in FA: Alaric Jackson 4/88M, Trey Smith 4/84, Drew Dalman 3/30M, Jaylon Moore OT 3/15M. And let everyone else compete for the last Guard spot. We need this OL to be much better for the run and pass game.

The puzzling thing about it is Mayo during his introduction Presser stated he took classes on Leadership while working at the job he had after his football career ended. He should have got a Tutor
He still talks like he's in a bs seminar on leadership with phrases like "a real leader does this and that." No Jerod. Nobody is asking you for definitions on being a leader. Show, don't tell.

I have often thought about this and to my thinking it should have been a no brainer.
Who really knows what goes on behind the scenes, certainly not us.

Leadership is a phrase that is earned and bestowed upon someone by peers.
If you have to talk to others about your leadership skills then it is something you aspire but have not earned

I knew it was going to be a matter of time before the media starts attacking Mayo as a player. Last week I heard Mazz asking the question of what memorable play he ever had as a player? This was a good question, because he was just a stat collector and had pretty much zero impact on the defense.

You can recall plays from both Hightower and Collins, but none from Mayo.

He was one of the main reasons we lost to Seattle in 2012. Fact.

If it's worse than expected, then he could. Or if it's a case that RKK hired him against Jonathan's wishes and Jonathan is in his office every Monday, holding a see-I-was-right meeting, then RKK could acquiesce.

But, to your point, I still believe that he's going to be given a second year, but he may need to bring in more "seasoned" coordinators for year two.
There was an article Saturday from Diana Russini that says Kraft has shared that he wants to give Mayo a chance to grow into the job.
We are screwed.

[No reason. But if the thread is going to reference Chuck Barris and Henry Gibson, why not Pat Paulsen?]

...For President!

For some reason, they made those plays in the past. Wonder what changed

They're all a year older & (except for Gonzo, White & Marcus) a year slower;
They're weren't that good to begin-with anyway; and...
Bill & the son who has difficulty speaking in front of large gatherings (such as all-positions defensive meetings) are no longer here to stress proper run fits.... Having Dogchow on the field would've helped too... And exactly WTF was Keion White doing here...?

...But, to your point, I still believe that he's going to be given a second year, but he may need to bring in more "seasoned" coordinators for year two.

At the Bare Minimum, the defensive Co-Ordinator, CBs, Safeties & WRs coaches ALL must be Fired on Black Monday; the offensive Line coaches can stay I suppose, but only as ass-istants to a New, MUCH more experienced OLC.
