This man approves...

[No reason. But if the thread is going to reference Chuck Barris and Henry Gibson, why not Pat Paulsen?]

Go easy on Mayo everyone knows he can't do anything for them between the white lines...
Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't this the kind of thing where you want a speedy free safety?

Forgot about Spikes. He was limited, but I loved his hard hits. Yes, overall Mayo was better. However, even Brandon Spikes had plays you remembered.
I so badly wanted Spikes to be a cornerstone dynasty kind of guy. Such a bad ass player. Hightower ended up being a good consolation prize though

Even with his problems Van Pelt as been the best of the three. He must be doing something right with Maye. Why the F is Covington getting a free pass. He suuuucks this year. Scapegoating Van Pelt won’t change anything. No one good will want to replace him. This really is an easy decision. They all have to go. It’s not that hard.

Boutte throwing Maye under the bus.

The guy has no idea how to sit in the zone. The throw was exactly where it needed to be to protect him.

Seems to be a trend with low passes heading not quite where the receiver is expecting and then it ends up tipped for an INT. For HHenry's case, he sat and Maye threw it a pinch far so he had to twist into the incoming tackler to try to get it. For Boutte, it was the opposite. We'll see if this improves the rest of the year. I'm not worried. Hopefully, Maye gets to gel more with some receivers the rest of the year and have some continuity going into next year. I know everyone wants to play Queen of Hearts and axe everyone on offense not named Maye, but I'm hoping there'll be a few that can continue the relationship into next season.

Retweet. Even my wife, a less than casual fan, said "geez, honey, these receivers suck!"

I think that's just media speculation. Phil Perry spoke at length about it this past week. He was under the impression that something egregious would have to happen for Mayo to get canned.
I just cannot see how Kraft can justify firing Mayo after 1 season when Kraft knew who he was hiring.

Part of it is experience of being around many different types of coaches, players, employees and other people. Just being in the Bill silo isn't gonna cut it.

I don't know if he burned bridges with BB but an assistant DC at the college level would be a great first step for him to get where he needs to be at this level.

I agree. I think a big part of Mayo's rough intro is the fact that he had no connections outside an already small circle that's largely retired or gone at this point. Coaches seem to flock together or at least need a bit of a braintrust with whom they've built chemistry, which helps you understand your role should you have to jump ship. I'm not sure if Mayo has had any of that.

It just occurred to me that if they fire any defensive staff, most of those guys are holdovers from the prior years under Bill. I can envision Covington getting canned and then just going to the media and giving them a scoop about how Mayo behaved in 2023 and ****ed over Bill. He would’ve seen it with his own eyes.

So to some extent those guys may kind of have leverage over Mayo. Which makes him focus on the wholly new offensive staff.

If it's worse than expected, then he could. Or if it's a case that RKK hired him against Jonathan's wishes and Jonathan is in his office every Monday, holding a see-I-was-right meeting, then RKK could acquiesce.

But, to your point, I still believe that he's going to be given a second year, but he may need to bring in more "seasoned" coordinators for year two.

Who would hitch their wagon?
Ben Caldwell?
Brian Daboll?
