The reality is that Inman has shown at least as much as Dorsett as a receiver. Dorsett's 44 receptions in 2 years as patriot hardly makes him a critical key to the receiving corps.

I suppose I've just seen enough unpredictability in who works vs who doesn't work on this team from the WR position. Until I see otherwise, I'll always assume someone who has shown some productivity has a leg up on someone who hasn't. If Inman had been a Moss type, or just a generally super productive player elsewhere, I might feel differently. But he's been a journeyman throughout his career, and it's on him to prove he belongs over Dorsett, not the other way around, IMO.

Interesting take on a guy getting benched proving his value.

Sure, It is up to Inman to beat out Dorsett for reps.

    Dorsett SHOULD be way ahead.

He got "benched" midseason when they had Josh Gordon, then came back to provide some key catches in the playoffs. My point was never that he was a lock, just that there's no possible way you can put anyone ahead of him yet until we see something on the field. Everyone else has questions, so until those questions are answered (positively or negatively) Dorsett has an inside track.

Sure you can put players ahead of him. Why can’t you? We are only talking about making guesses.
Dorsett has the opportunity and had pt taken away by Chris Hogan. I doubt they bright Harry or Thomas in expecting worse than dorsett.
I see dorsetts time here as much more negative than positive. So what he has shown works against him in my view, not in his favor.

Did you miss the part where they extended Dorsett for almost twice what Hogan got from the Panthers ? If he projected to be a better choice than Dorsett in 2019 then they could have had him and saved some money.

So you think that dorsett proved he is sure to get lots of playing time by sitting on the bench? Interesting take.
Look I’m sure they like him but if demaryius Thomas and N’Keal Harry are worse than Chris Hogan I would be shocked and that’s the bar dorsett couldn’t rise above.

Arguing about Inman in the Ellington thread instead of the Inman thread which is only a few spots down on the page, along with multiple other non-Ellington WRs, is so Patsfan.com it hurts. Mods, perhaps we can close the book on Mr. Ellington at this point. He is gone and already forgotten.

I didn't say I am expecting him to do anything. I just see a disconnect between claiming he was worse than Hogan and the fact how the team handled the two contracts this offseason.

Money talks. Of course it is up to him to make the roster but bottomline is that he almost got twice the money that the "superior" Hogan got.

Inman may have shown as much as Dorsett, but that’s setting the bar fairly low, and it wasn’t in this system.

I just can’t get on board with the idea of keeping these two, along with having to depend on a rookie, as 3/4 wide receivers. Luckily for us, I won’t be making the decision.

Nobody cared that someone made a new thread about the Thomas running video about 2-3 days after it was already posted and discussed in the DT thread. Doubt anyone will care about Ellington/Inman.

Don’t you see a disconnect between saying dorsett is better yet they consistently put hogan on the field ahead of him?

Hogan will be 31. Hogan’s patriot contract was 3 years 12 million. Dorsett got 1 year 2.6.

It seems odd that your argument that a guy who struggled to get on the field someone convinced you he is valued because he got a 2.6 mill contract.

What Hogan got 3 years ago is irrelevant, both signed a one year deal this offseason. Hogan got 1.45m for a year, Dorsett got 2.6 for a year. The reality is the team could have kept Hogan for almost half of what they gave to Dorsett.

The team rather kept a more expensive Dorsett. Those are facts.

Yes, Bill was willing to pay lots more to Dorsett than to Hogan. Also, Dorsett was guaranteed $500K.

Make no mistake, I don't think that Dorsett is a lock. He needs to beat out Inman and/or Harris. My personal preference would for us to be entering Game 5 with Edelman, DT, Gordon and Harry as our WR's, along with 2-3 WR's on the Practice Squad. I think that at least 2 of the 3 competitors (Dorsett, Inman and Harris) will be on the 53 for at least some time.

I agree. The only locks we have among the WRs are Edelman and Harry. Everything else is up for grabs.

The reality is hogan played more than twice as many snaps. In the playoffs hogan played 211 snaps dorsett 100. When the team had the choice to put one or the other on the field, they chose hogan.

You are clouding the issue by looking at future pay for players that are an average nfl career length apart in age.

If you want to believe that giving a veteran who struggled to get on the field a paltry 2.6 million is proof that he shorn the team he has great value I’m not sure what to tell you.

We know that they felt hogan was better last year and my point was if the players they brought in are better than hogan was last year (and I’m sure they expect that from Thomas and Harry) then dorsett will have an even lesser role if any.

And yet they chose to resign one over the other for almost twice the money. Hmmm.
