Prediction.....Hunter Henry will have the most receptions for the Pats this Sunday.....thoughts?
I can see that.. LAC play heavy zone.. that feeds into exactly what we like offensively.. I also feel running the ball when they are zone is what we need to do.. continue with the run to open up everything...

Having Spillane back is a big improvement. I don’t expect Tonga will be back, but Jennings has been playing DT sometimes recently, and Ponder is coming on recently. Landry should also be back. The defense is getting a good boost.
Agreed. Reports earlier Tonga is out unfortunately.. to offset his loss Durden and Gregory have played well also. With Landry as you mentioned and Jennings and ponder coming on should boost the pass rush and allow us to send blitzers.

I'm pretty confident in the Patriots chances this postseason. The two things that give me pause is one, this being Maye's first postseason run. Also, the defense. I can't get over how they looked completely helpless against Josh in the second half of the Bills game. They couldn't muster one stop out of like 5 chances. Herbert has the ability to look like the best QB in the league on any given Sunday. Luckily he is being protected by an absolutely terrible oline. So that gives me hope. Either way, I can't wait to see how we respond to the pressure. Sunday feels like 8 months away.

Well, I’m not much for Chinese virology ever since Wuhan…. Prefer EU CDC:
Can’t say I’m a fan of US CDC any more, not since their big boss started adjusting science to suit his personal beliefs.

I believe facts are facts. There are not different facts in China and Europe.

Interesting that the study eliciting your comment about Wuhan has no authors from China. Prejudiced much?
Hard to interpret because there’s nothing I saw explaining how they define “effectiveness”, and left a lot of my other question about methodology unanswered, but the text seems to answer my question about whether the vaccines prevented influenza infections, or merely reduced severity of symptoms. Very first sentence reads “Preliminary data … indicate that the seasonal vaccines available in EU are providing protection against influenza A(H3N2) infection”.

Thanks!

Yes Gregory is another addition doing well and improving recently.

Thanks. Very helpful.

I read the first and last papers from start to finish, looking for discussion relevant to the assertion @shmessy made saying that vaccines do not protect against getting the flu. I found nothing specifically addressing that point. I did however see statements saying vaccines prevented influenza, for example “A vaccination is the most common method to prevent diseases associated with influenza viruses.” That seems useful.

I started but did not finish the second of those articles. It’s a survey of other published articles. The very first paragraph states “The most effective way to prevent influenza infection and its complications is through vaccination” which seemed sufficient to answer my question.

I didn’t find much in the third article, probably because it’s simplified for the intended audience. I did wonder whether it had been revised or updated to reflect the anti-vaccine bias of the current Secretary of HHS, and also whether those views will shape research agendas and distort our knowledge of how vaccines work. I fear the quality of information about vaccines may deteriorate rapidly, so I’m glad to have the sources you supplied.

Thanks!
Mea culpa my bad. I meant it didn’t guarantee against getting the flu. The bigger benefit is if you get it, it tends to give some good benefits to keeping the severity down. Very much like the Covid vaccines. People shouldn’t look at it as surprising if people with the vaccine actually get the flu. But it is an important protection against more terrible outcomes. What I was (badly) trying to to get at is that it doesn’t mean Morgan Moses is anti-vaxx or anything.

How well a particular season's flu vaccine works depends on how good a match it is to the prevailing strain. It takes nearly several months to make the vaccines (most are produced in chicken eggs) so they pick a strain based on what's circulating in the Southern Hemisphere the previous winter there. Unfortunately this winter the vaccine is not a great match - the luck of the draw. The vaccine also works worse in older folk - hence the higher dose that most older folk get. An interesting little known observation is that the flu vaccine seems to also protect to some degree from heart attacks - nobody really knows why. (And yes, they did account for the fact that the people who get vaccinated are generally healthier to begin with).

Very good point. Thanks for making it!

Reading the studies, especially this one, gave a lot of information on why that is. It was really great to appeal to my geek nature!

I am confident that Drake is committed to succeeding, and football is not (yet) a sissy sport. This ain't the Arena League.

Bring on whatever weather. I welcome it, and the experience will do Maye and the rest of the team good. It would take only a brief look from Vince Lombardi to make every player feel stupid to even consider it an impediment.

APF, nobody thinks Maye is a “sissy” scared of bad weather! We’ve noticed that his throws tend to sail high in the rain.

That said, he’s the kind of player who acknowledges his mistakes and works hard to correct them. This game should be an interesting test.

I don’t believe so.

But I’m starting to doubt my assessment of you as a reliable poster. Or are we going to different links?
See screenshot below
9 authors : all Chinese names
The article says in the highlighted portion that the study was done IN CHINA with 500 some CHINESE volunteers.

Can you point me at peer reviewed research showing that is the case, please? It seems contrary to my intuitive understanding of how those vaccines work so I’d like to educate myself and improve my knowledge and understanding of them.
He's right because it's a guessing game as to the strain that will be dominant (you can't just produce a vaccine in the time between when you find out the dominant strain for that year and the end of the flu season). So the vaccine is for the virus, but not the mutation (strain) - therefore unlike other vaccines where there's homogeneity (low or no mutation) the annual flu vaccine just "trains" the immune system to recognize the virus meaning it adapts more quickly and is able to reduce severity and length of infection.

I'm not going to do research for you just ask AI (but make sure you qualify the sources for AI to look in so you dont have GIGO).

Can Maye and the Pats offense do better at home than Bo Nix?
Chargers D was playing hard in that game even without their offense starting QB on the bench.
Bo "Elway " Nix was 14 for 23. 141 yards. 4 sacks. Also had 49 yards rushing!
The Denver running backs had a total combined 69 yards rushing.
Sutton who is WR1 was held to 1 catch for 5 yards.
Not a great performance for the #1 seed.
I expect the Pats to do better.
Josh will need to change up the bombs away game plan.
With Boute out and a strong Chargers secondary I would expect more passes to the running backs and some designed Maye scrambles. The runs will be there for him. He needs to take them instead of tossing into tight coverage.

Since 2004, first time playoff QB's are 18-42 vs an experienced QB.

Home teams are 19-5 in WC round since 2021. GB is the only 7th seed to win in WC since 2021. Usually the 7th seed gets obliterated.

Big Jim Murray supplied this info on Felger & Mazz.

Obviously, alot of context is needed for that first stat. Like, were these first year starters losing in the postseason? Were they facing a much better team? Did something crazy happen?

This is fair. For all that Maye seems unfazed by pressure, it is his first rodeo.

On the flip side, Herbert has been there before—and lost each time. That’s its own kind of pressure.
True.
