Review of Influenza Virus Vaccines: The Qualitative Nature of Immune Responses to Infection and Vaccination Is a Critical Consideration - PMC

Well, I’m not much for Chinese virology ever since Wuhan…. Prefer EU CDC:

Early seasonal influenza vaccine effectiveness estimates were calculated for the period week 41-49 2025, by influenza subtype and age (when data stratifications allowed). It was not possible to estimate vaccine effectiveness separately for individuals aged 65 years and older, due to the low number of influenza cases included in the study.

Across the total population (all age groups), vaccine effectiveness was:

  • 44% (95% CI: 25–59) against any influenza;
  • 52% (95% CI: 29–69) against influenza A(H3N2);
  • 16% (95% CI: -43–54) against influenza A(H1N1)pdm09.
Age-specific vaccine effectiveness estimates for A(H3N2) were 52% (95% CI: 21-72) among those aged 0–17 years and 57% (95% CI: 4-84) among those aged 18–64 years. Due to the dominance of influenza A(H3N2), estimates for other influenza subtypes are imprecise at this time in the season.

I just don’t want wet weather. This season, that’s about the only thing that’s slowed Maye down.
I am confident that Drake is committed to succeeding, and football is not (yet) a sissy sport. This ain't the Arena League.
Bad weather might hurt us more. We arent the old 2000's patriots preferring the muddied up cold weather for our D. We need to win on offense.
Bring on whatever weather. I welcome it, and the experience will do Maye and the rest of the team good. It would take only a brief look from Vince Lombardi to make every player feel stupid to even consider it an impediment.

First of all, the Donkeys can take that bye and shove it up their inferior asses.

As for this game coming up Sunday night, I expect the Patriots to be resting their starters in the fourth quarter again, for several reasons:

1. The Chargers are the reason we're even playing a game at all this week in the first place. They didn't even try to beat the ripe-for-the-picking Broncos, acting like they wanted to come here and play us. Well, that's exactly what they're going to get.

2. According to local Boston sports talk radio, Christian Barmore and Stefon Diggs molested thousands of children over decades before murdering them. Further, most of them trumpet that the Patriots did something - anything - to deserve having not one but two(2) first-round draft picks stolen from them. They, along with their fellow media morons across the nation, can eat ****.

3. Justin Herbert sucks.

4. Anyone who was there(including Drake) or saw the Bolts' 40-7 beatdown of us at dreary Gillette one year ago December 28th, along with their 6-0 shutout of us again at Gillette also in December two years prior(Rhamondre, along with Hunter Henry, who had five injury-plagued seasons in SD/LA before we signed him, played in both) knows that this is an entirely different situation now. Opposite, in fact.

5. Jim Harbaugh sucks. As far as I'm concerned, he can go back to the Toreros on Monday.

I simply want to get on to the divisional round, and give our guys a proper send off in what may be our last home game this year.
I meant to say, Jim Harbaugh can eat my shorts.

Let My Cameron Newton Go...

My two cents from what I have been told and from family who are in the medical field is that the flu vaccines both reduce the risk of getting it and if you do get it the vaccine should help minimize your symptoms but the vaccine is not a guarantee from getting sick.

Did Boutte re-injure his hamstring?? He suddenly popped up on the injury report with a hammy.
I sure hope not - that would be a horrible setback. We need a big game from him - even if that doesn't result in a lot of catches, he has earned the respect of defenses.
Yeah I think that happened unfortunately. We could use him.
If the Pats advance we're gonna need Tonga back soon.
Better to have these guys back strong for the divisional round, and after.

Prediction.....Hunter Henry will have the most receptions for the Pats this Sunday.....thoughts?

No, I don't like it at all. He's a little banged up and we have three more games after this. More important, we should get everybody involved. The Chargers simply aren't that good.

From what I have been reading they are weak in the middle of the field and thats a place for a guy like Henry to thrive, maybe Diggs ( but I expect them to give him a lot of attention). I dont want Drake pushing the ball into the strength of their secondary all day long testing them on the boundaries. Will be interesting to see how Josh schemes the passing attack.

Does anyone realize the Chargers have only played two top 10 offenses? The Colts before the Daniel Jones injury and the Jaguars. In both games the Chargers got absolutely blown out. I find that interesting. They have played some inept offenses this season.

Thanks. Very helpful.

I read the first and last papers from start to finish, looking for discussion relevant to the assertion @shmessy made saying that vaccines do not protect against getting the flu. I found nothing specifically addressing that point. I did however see statements saying vaccines prevented influenza, for example “A vaccination is the most common method to prevent diseases associated with influenza viruses.” That seems useful.

I started but did not finish the second of those articles. It’s a survey of other published articles. The very first paragraph states “The most effective way to prevent influenza infection and its complications is through vaccination” which seemed sufficient to answer my question.

I didn’t find much in the third article, probably because it’s simplified for the intended audience. I did wonder whether it had been revised or updated to reflect the anti-vaccine bias of the current Secretary of HHS, and also whether those views will shape research agendas and distort our knowledge of how vaccines work. I fear the quality of information about vaccines may deteriorate rapidly, so I’m glad to have the sources you supplied.

Thanks!

Agree, as long as we can get through this round to get there, without needing them to do it.
