You beat me to it. I love Metallica but Lars sometimes is off.
Spit out the bone off the new album has double Bass in it. But live he can't play the double Bass parts.
Lars is in his mid 50s .I'm cutting him some slack.

I'm expecting to see a pretty decent workload for Hogan shake off the rust so he can be the Steelers assassin we saw last year. Have they activated Mitchell officially yet? If not I'm thinking they save that spot for depth and keep RJF on the roster

Not yet on MM. The have until Sat

I thought they had until Wed 1/17, since there is a 3 week window for activation from the date he was designated for IR return. That occurred the practice week of the NYJ game, or around the end of Dec.

I’m pretty sure he can miss this next game and still be brought back for a potential AFCCG.

I'd assume (probably obviously) anyone that is not at practice tomorrow/DNP likely won't be available on Saturday (unless it's a personal matter or cold/flu issue).
Based on the Jets game injury report the biggest questions are: Branch, Gill and Burk. Fairly important to get at least Burk or Gill back (Burk certainly the best to get back but Gill would be a nice consolation). But if White is still LP to start the week and the questionable status doesn't change throughout the week then it's damn important to get either Burk or Gill back.

What would be extremely nice to see is the LP guys who missed the game or barely played -- KVN, Hogan, White and Waddle -- all become full practice (basically off the injury report).

Interesting status on MM. Will he be activated out of 'he just looks good at practice' or is this a 'wait to see if injury makes the decision up until BB forced to make the decision Monday after the Titans game' (assuming the win). Having MM at practice for 3 weeks without taking a roster spot is a nice value/a bit of an advantage within itself.

I don't doubt this at all, but in fairness to RW (and Lars ), I was really being flippant. I'm a guitarist who's written and played for 20-odd years, but my ear isn't sophisticated enough to tell which of two excellent drummers is best.

What I can say is that I enjoyed VP's playing more. Lars seemed to lean heavily on a few techniques, whether they were a perfect fit or not, whereas Pantera's drums felt more song-centric. Of course, someone else might say that's just Lars' style and prefer Metallica.

Sorry for contributing to the musical detour on what should be one of the more useful pre-game threads.

why did alan branch have such a drop off this year?

any word.......injury?.......he got a big contract

Great points about the ability to keep Mitchell on another 10 days or so. It is certainly a luxury, particularly if Hogan is expected to play on Sat night. May as well see how that pans out, unless the idea is to get Mitchell some snaps to help knock the rust off for any future games. Hard to say either way, particularly in the postseason when it’s generally a “all hands on deck” situation for obvious reasons.

I believe that I read an encouraging report re: James White’s availability, so that’s big. Even if he’s limited throughout the week, I’m not going to be overly concerned. I’m guessing that they won’t practice tomorrow, though, at least on a serious level, and they definitely won’t have to issue an injury report. I’d have to guess Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday practices, with a Friday walkthrough. I’m assuming that tomorrow will be back to work with a focus on film study and gameplan prep, but obviously I could be wrong.

If Hogan & Van Noy, among others are banged up, do you hold them out for Pittsburgh or Jax? Or maybe it's better they get the rust off...

Yea. If they want to play him this Sat they have until Sat afternoon..or maybe it's Fri as it's a Sat game?

You don’t mess around and underestimate your opponent

Belichick doesn't think that way - if a player is healthy, had good practice week and has a role in the scheme (or has a back responsibility to the same) for that opponent they'll play.

It’s a playoff game. You don’t mess around and underestimate your opponent. Dont forget our playoff loss to the jets in ‘10.
Do you think the underestimated the NYJ?

Depends on how severe their injuries are. If they aren't limited, can't reinjure it and it's a question of pain tolerance, they play. If the inverse is true they sit.

That is the popular fan theory when in reality it was just a confluence of things (drops, INTs, fake punts) happening.
5 things that killed the 2010 Pats
  1. Horrible 3rd down D. Crappy all year
  2. Horrible red zone D. Crappy all year
  3. Lack of an outside threat. Jets flooded the middle intermediate
  4. Too dependent on forcing TOs.
  5. Tom did not have a great game.
