Patriots Player Departure Patriots are sending WR Kayshon Boutte to the Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick

Sucks to see him go but it’s the right call. We paid a lot for the current WR core and he won’t get many chances to be on the field. At least we are getting something for him and he will probably get a nice contract with the Texans if he performs.

Agreed - way too soon to say he's a JAG. We saw some decent flashes from him last season. He has more upside than Bourne IMO

Williams YAC is close to 8 yards. Boutte's YAC has been under 2 which demonstrates an inability to get good separation.
This is kind of a crazy analysis when you consider Boutte is going downfield and mainly grabbing balls on the boundary. Also TDs. Boutte's productivity was through the roof last year. YAC is meaningless when you measure it by his YPC and his target/completion ratio.

However you cut it, Boutte's numbers are way more impressive.

Here is the simple fact: the league doesn’t remotely see Boutte as good as Patriots fans do. If the Patriots could have gotten more somewhere else, they would have. Reports were earlier this offseason that most teams saw Boutte as a #4 WR on a lot of teams.

I think Boutte may see a serious drop in production with CJ Stroud throwing to him.

Knew the WR group was too large, but somewhat disappointed in the return.
Boutte would be looking for mega bucks next year.
The ST's haven't shown that much in the preseason, so that will probably be where he finds his role.
I immediately started thinking about Schooler after seeing this nonsense on NFLTR....then seeing Caserio with Wolfie bent over the table with his pants around his ankles.

FYI Boutte last year was 72nd in total WR yards. (Tied 72nd) and 76th in YPG. the year before he was 71st in total yards and 78th in YPG. So he is a #3 WR.. and he had every chance to get a lot more. But this is the most could do getting a prominent role.

The idea he is a 2nd is just not backed up. And keep in mind the Pats had the 4th most passing yards last year and he* had every chance to get more yards. He didn't.
Yeah. Lets look at the year when Boutte was on a garbage offense and a year where it was his first in one of the most complex offenses around with the Pats having brought in 2 Vets to help transition.

Again. You love posting crap without context and pretending your proving a point.

Yes. It is backed up when you look at the SNAPS he was getting.
Boutte was 72/76 when you include TEs and RBs in the equation. When you look at RECEIVERS only, where does he fall? There are 16 TEs and 3 RBs included in those numbers ahead of him. When you take them out, What happens? OH. Boutte moves up to 52rd in Total yards and he was 6th in Yard per Reception for receivers with more than 30 receptions.

Boutte is 24 year old solid #2 receiver who is still getting better. You clearly choose to ignore that and be disingenuous with the info you provide.

“The league” isn’t always right either. Some players are better than given credit for. Those that watched last season understood that the plays Boutte made spoke more than the raw yards and catch statistics did.

Yeah the league sees a guy with like 30-40 some catches and dismisses him outright, I’m sure.

I was already expecting him to be traded. And was expecting a 5th back, people here do tend to overvalue the players we get

But i do not understand the safety return. LB would be ideal, Houston has so many DEs...

Maybe Schooler is not close to return, but still, this is a head scratcher
Houston has GARBAGE for DEs behind their top 2. It's why they brought in Clowney. None of Byrd, Horton or Robinson are better than Swinson. Which should tell you everything you need to know.

I think it's funny that everyone is writing off the new safety immediately because "he's just a 6th round pick", and can't believe that they traded away Kayshon Boutte for him, who was... a 6th round pick.

We'll see - Williams had a very decent 8 YAC average. Boutte has been down at 1-2 so his route running sure hasn't given him a lot of separation.
Goodness gracious! I bet you were one of those on this board who told us that changing from Meyers to Smith-Schuster was be an upgrade because ... YAC? Watching Boutte last season catching sideline outs, over-the-shoulder passes 20 or 30 yards downfield and in the endzone -- what more could anyone want?

We would have been better off letting him walk next year & taking a comp pick in 2028 when the Eagles get our first round pick

and he did not disappear like pop has a habit of doing...

if they wanted to move him, why now? could have gotten a better return towards the trade deadline...
The Deadline is a lot longer now too...I don't get the rush.

Clearly I think this is a mistake. But I surely hope it works out.

Boutte was coming off major ankle repairs. Before that he was talked about as 1st round potential. What's Jaylen Reed's excuse?

This is a fair response. I personally wish they would have tried to ride with Boutte and see the connection with Drake continue to grow rather than going in on Doubs.

At the same time, like you said, we paid for the two guys and Boutte won’t get his opportunities. I hope he does well in HOU. A diminished role here was waste of his time.

Loved Reed at Penn State. Hes a backup/STer here. Maybe he can improve and replace Byard next year.

Boutte is a WR 3/4. Love him here but he is 5-10 snap a game guy ....maybe

I freaking hate this ****. Kicking him on the way out. Acting like he didn’t really do anything besides a TD or two.

I’m not saying he is a #1 or anything but he worked his ass off from a long shot to Drake Maye’s binky. He made more than a few big plays for us last season.

He was the best receiver not named Diggs. And he was the best receiver on this team not named AJ Brown. Boutte is one of those late round, under appreciated guys who will grind and have a productive career. He’s not a JAG. Kyle Williams is a JAG.

No need to discredit a player just because they aren’t in a Pats uniform anymore.

The number of fans on this sight who claim to be intelligent but then s**t all over a very good player when he's gone never ceases to amaze me. It's always the same few as well.

They ignore that Boutte had the 6th best YPC in the LEAGUE last year for players with at least 30 receptions. They're ridiculous disingenuous when they claim Boutte was the 72nd ranked receiver because they conveniently count TEs and RBs as a way to say that Boutte isn't a legit #2 who still hasn't peaked since he's only 24.

That being said, you claiming that Kyle Williams is a JAG is as stupid as their claims. The Pats don't know what they have in Williams yet. By all acounts, he's improved. It remains to be seen if that translates onto the field. The GOAL would be to have Williams be ready to take a top 3 WR spot in 2027 sine Hollins and Douglas as both UFA.

Pape I agree brother.. but K. Boutte requested a trade. The team granted him his wishes. If there was a better deal on the table sooner Vrabel likely would have moved him then rather than now.
