Patriots Player Departure Patriots are sending WR Kayshon Boutte to the Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick

Usual pats fans suspects.... management can do no wrong...
Against the usual pats fans suspects… anything management does is wrong…

Totally predictable. Can usually name who wrote most posts just from their reaction…

It would be more fun to watch if it weren’t so tedious…

Interesting thoughts from Reiss. There will likely be times where they prefer to use an extra safety instead of a slot corner, or as an extra LB, so Reed has a shot to see the field plenty even if he is not starting.

It's also true that they likely really did not want to be handcuffed into keeping 7 receivers, but also did not want to cut any of their top 7. Other teams knew this, which weakened their bargaining position.

Stupid trade. We have few good players let alone depth and gave him away
Looking forward to the excuses when someone comes up grabbing their hammy this season or does the dreaded helmet tap and stands on the sidelines for the rest of the game.

Boutte was tied for 125th in receptions, 72nd in yards, and was tied for 26th in TD's with about 20 other players. His yards per average was the only thing remotely special about him and it's completely undercut by his low volume.

What did people think we were going to get for him? We had a crowded WR room and it was between him and Williams. There was a good chance he was going to get cut and someone gets him for free on waivers.
72nd in yards and 26th in TDs is just about a WR2-- exactly where the Texans are slotting him. That's a starter at a premium position.

If this was the best offer, just keep him as insurance.

While this team is lacking depth in several areas, WR certainly was not one of them. They had too much depth there. The loss of Boutte is manageable while adding depth at safety, which was a little weak after the top two guys. A linebacker or edge player would've been better, but it's still a slightly healthier overall roster.

You know who didn't value him as a WR2, 32 teams including the Patriots.

The whole league could have pretty much had him for a throw away pick and weren't interested the Texans don't even value him they only did it because he was almost free and they were desperate if they really wanted him they could have done this weeks ago.

He would be 5th out of the gate, They'd have to have Williams as the 4th to see if he can be that guy. If Williams craps the bed then Boutte gets back in as 4th receiver, if Williams plays well Boutte stays as 5th receiver.
Let's not forget Boutte asked to be traded, he wanted to have a chance to make some money.
I forget about Mack Hollins, he had more targets than Boutte so maybe Boutte is the 6th receiver to start the year.
I wanted to keep Boutte because of injuries. I also said that he would be 4th or 5th on the depth chart. He makes great long distance catches but is an average producer outside of that. 33 receptions/550 yds/ 6 TDs regular season and 9 rec/ 168 yds/1 TD in 4 post season games on a team that had one real threat in Diggs is not saying a lot. But I would have liked him as an insurance policy in case of injuries since he has a report with Drake.
I wanted a 3rd or 4th for a trade. We got a 7th and Reed. I will now do some homework on Reed. Today I did the predict the yds and tds s,Oder that Ian posted. I could not find any yds for Boutte with the new additions at WR and Rairidon. I started to wonder that Boutte would not be here this year

201 of those yards and two of the TDs came in two games (Raiders and Saints). So over the other six, he had 231 yards and 3 TDs. That is 38.5 yards and 0.5 TDs a game as a #2 WR. Not that all impressive.

I like Boutte, and was obviously going for a higher pick, but the reaction here is like they just traded JaMarr Chase for Jordan Richard's.

The league may not be right, but maybe it is the Pats fans that are wrong. Boutte was very up and down last year even before his injury. He was awesome against the Raiders week one and then disappeared for a month. Most of his big games during the regular season were against bad defenses like Houston in the playoffs. SMH.

I only read the first two pages and was surprised no one mentioned that Reed could be that need for a special teams role. We are still missing Schooler. Will have to see how good he is on ST but am surprised we got so little in return for Boutte.

I don't hate the trade
I wish it were Hollins or Pop, as I think Boutte is the better WR. (I also think Boutte has been better than Doubs)

It’s not just who’s the better WR. It’s about the money. It’s always about the money.
that said, this might tell us a few things;

Schooler is more injured than we know

Also, Woodson was injured in practice last Thursday.
The team doesn't like their depth behind Byard and Woodson and view Reed as an upgrade.

They could like their depth and still view Reed as an upgrade.
The team really likes DeGennaro and Chism, and believes Williams can produce something this season.

That seems very likely to me.

Pretty much everything. Check the film..Those who are doubting Doubs have either barely watched him play, or simply haven’t watched him play. That what the consensus seems like..because pretty much everyone (including GMs, other players, coaches, film junkies, some on this forum etc..) who’s familiar with both of their respective skillsets know Doubs is clearly a better receiver. It may be on a Moss-Edelman type scale, but it’s clear.

A lot of this is the known vs unknown to the avg fan. Of Doubs plays really well this year most rational people will largely forget Boutte existed

"Most of his big games during the regular season were against bad defenses like Houston in the playoffs. SMH."

Boutte had a really good second half against the Texans, but overall he had three total catches with one of them being one of the best catches of his career.

I would have preferred they kept him, but I understand all the reasons they let him go and glad they got something for him. I hope Reed develops into a good safety.

My fear is that KW is closer to bust than breakout and we might be kicking ourselves for keeping the wrong one.

Boutte was coming off major ankle repairs. Before that he was talked about as 1st round potential. What's Jaylen Reed's excuse?
Played every game he was healthy, and started all the Texans playoff games, as a rookie.

Is that what you wanted to hear?
