Patriots Player Departure Patriots are sending WR Kayshon Boutte to the Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick

Boutte was a 6th round pick.

He wasn’t a WR2 here with Drake Maye, so why would he be now with Stroud?
Yes. Boutte was a WR2 with Drake Maye. He improved each year he was here. He had ONE year in the McDaniels offense with Maye and really grew.

Boutte will be the #3 behind Dell and Collins. He'll be #2 until Dell is cleared to play. It's ridiculous how you're downplaying his abilities.

I didn't think it was going to happen. I was wrong. Pretty infuriating actually.

However, this is one of the worst off-season moves since exercising the 5th year option for Isiah Wynn and signing Dugger to a top S contract when no other team wanted him.

This is what bad teams do.

Yeah Houston is Loaded with Edge Players which would seem more logical.
No. They aren't loaded. They have 3 crap guys that you've bought into the hype because they're being shopped around. Those 3 aren't better than Swinson. The other Edge players the Texans weren't trading.

Underwhelming return but I'm not going to pretend to be super knowledgeable about the safety they got back. Late round pick who didn't play a ton last year but maybe they like him. But if he's just a depth/STs guy that's underwhelming.

I didn't expect much for Boutte. I thought 4th/5th. The people thinking we would get a 3rd, much less that we'd turn it down if offered were insane. But unless they thought he'd be a huge locker room cancer, I'd have just kept him to have 3 good WRs. I do not believe in Hollins or Douglas as a #3 WR at all though, which I know some people here do, so I'd have prioritized keeping him over a weak (but fair_ return.

I say fair because Boutte isn't that good and he's just not very valuable on the trade market. So I get the low return. I'd have just kept him though.
You thought we'd get a 4th or a 5th, and you are not disappointed in THIS, a ST JAG and a 7th?? That's kinda baffling.

I think everyone's view of this trade would be a LOT different if the guy we get back for Boutte would have been a LB or an Edge guy. I was pretty happy with the S group backing up Woodson and KB. I was especially happy with Saunders play thus far. I think everyone's feelings would have been changed IF safety had been one of the more obvious needs.

Reed sounds like a rising player who looked good at the end of last season and into the playoffs and now during camp. But the question is do we need him?

The pick is what it is, an acknowledgement that the Texans are getting the more immediate impact from the trade. I would have been much happier if it had been a 7th in 26.

As this camp has gone on, I am FAR more comfortable with losing Boutte than I was before it. Not only have Brown and Doubs looked good, so have Pop, Hollins and Williams, as well as Chism and Degenero. Like most fans we over rate our own players most of the time. With Williams have a good camp, Boutte became redundant since Williams has a much higher upside. The fact is that Boutte is a JAG, and I mean that in the best way. He is a solid NFL boundary receiver, but nearly EVERY team has a guy just like him on their rosters and most of the time they are NOT starting.

He was a starter for US, but that was because our receiving room was so bad. Boutte did well in that environment, but he did no "excel" at it. Remember, the guy had 551 receiving yds last season and with a QB who was having an MVP level season. The noise some here make, makes it sound like he had over a thousand. Come on, he is NOT fast. He is NOT big. He is NOT twitchy quick. He has great hands and will come down with a contested catch. Boutte is a guy who is an asset in a WR room, a solid NFL WR, but Just Another Guy.

We have clowns saying “he only had X catches” or “X yards”. To say he wasn’t a trusted, reliable contributor for Drake is ludicrous. To think that means you either didn’t pay attention or are being dishonest.

But idk maybe the posters here know better than Drake who has repeatedly praised Boutte.

Texans fans are going to love Boutte. He will do more for them than Doubs will do for us. (The Doubs move is another one I didn't like). Jaylen Reed needs to turn into Ed Reed for me not to feel sour about this trade.

If you want to get a player in return, at least trade Boutte for player in a position of need...
I didn't want us to trade him at la but this return is not good enough. Great trade for the Texans that might bite us you know where in the playoffs if we play them

500+ yards… a good #2 WR approaches 1000 yards.

I didn’t downplay it, you overrated it.

The market has spoken.

While I agree on your take in regards to Boutte. I disagree with your take on Williams. Judging him because the Pats brought him along slowly is ridiculous.
Agreed - way too soon to say he's a JAG. We saw some decent flashes from him last season. He has more upside than Bourne IMO

Williams YAC is close to 8 yards. Boutte's YAC has been under 2 which demonstrates an inability to get good separation.

Absolutely infuriating.

We care going to need more than 10 Catches from KW now also Boutte was a better Route Runner.
We'll see - Williams had a very decent 8 YAC average. Boutte has been down at 1-2 so his route running sure hasn't given him a lot of separation.

The bolded line describes me to a T. I do think the compensation is disappointingly skimpy, but if the player had been at a position of urgent need, that combined with my feeling that doing right by Bouute is an honorable thing to do would have been enough for me to shrug it off. I'll probably shrug it off in a week or so anyway TBH, and I'll follow Boutte's career with interest.

Knew the WR group was too large, but somewhat disappointed in the return.
Boutte would be looking for mega bucks next year.
The ST's haven't shown that much in the preseason, so that will probably be where Reed finds his role.
