Sow wasn't a disaster but against Philly, he might need some help from the TE or a sixth OL with regularity.

Great post. Onwenu didnt play RT last year so I doubt he switches this year coming off injury.

Maybe you meant Green Bay and Tennessee?

With the additions at OT, I really think the Pats want to keep Onwenu at G unless there's a midseason disaster at OT. Right now, assuming the starters are coming back, I think the line will be ok. The interior of our line is pretty much the same as last season, and they were good. It's the tackles that were bad last season and are question marks this season. But if Trent is healthy, he's pretty good and they'll play the best RT they've got.

But it's once we start getting into the reserves that things could get really messy, really fast.

Let's stop with the Vax stuff.
Without going into the vax debate, my problem with him is that he hurt the team when he chose to assert his personal opinion in defiance of league rules.

it calls into question his reliability. How will he handle it if he decides he disagrees with Kraft or BB or the training or nutrition staffs? He put himself above his employer once, so I wouldn’t hire him to see if he does it a second time.

I think that boat sailed. They're rolling with Klemm for the season and we'll have a better sense at the end of the season how he is as a coach.

The posters calling to get rid of Klemm right now are kind of the same ones calling to get rid of Juju now. The Pats got both to improve the team. We need to let the process work itself out to see if they do or not. The process isn't the length of training camp and three really weird preseason games.

You make a great point. However certain topics sometimes ppl that disagree always try to poke holes, or say let's stop this,.or that. This is a forum. As long as posters are respectful people should be free to voice thier opinions.. and opinion is what we all have here on our team that we want to see succeed. If someone post something I don't agree with I don't waste my time responding. Good thing is there are alot of great posters on here and I consider you to be one of them!

The entire board has seemed to be concerned about the line and especially the OTs all through camp and especially after the first preseason game. As a homer, I'm glad they're making moves and hope something sticks.
I don't know of anyone who thinks the OL situation is good, you're right. I've been saying it for awhile. I've been downon McDermott and apparently the Patriots are too.

But now some of us are getting called homers for pointing out that the trade of Strong for a marginal at best LT is not a panic move but rather, you're trading someone who would've been cut otherwise.

I would not be surprised at all if Wheatley is a cut.

Which is why drafting a LG and moving him to RT was never likely a quick fix. Drafting Sidy Sow in no way “fixed” our crappy OTs. It was a longer term solution. The bandaids were supposed to be Reiff and Anderson.

Things happen. That’s why you don’t needlessly throw away draft capital on kickers.
You can't just take these picks out of context and say they disregarded LT. They took Gonzalez and Keion White over the LTs who couldv'e helped us.

As for Ryland, there are only 2 OTs taken after him, Jaelyn Duncan and Carter Warren. If these guys turn into starters, only then can you say it was bad decision making in the draft.

I would at this point, but maybe not later in the season. I think he shows good upside and is further along than Sow. I think whatever is wrong with Reiff and Anderson are taking longer than the Pats would like and they need OTs now.

We should have made a full court press to bring back Cole popovich this year... he seemed to get "it" ... maybe we did, but I hadn't heard a whisper of such a move this off-season...
You would think that a really good OL coach would be more sought after but Popovich is at a low major in Troy State. I have no idea how good he is but clearly Klemm has a lot more pedigree. What do the Popovich backers know that the rest of the football world doesn't?

What I mean is that Sow might need some help against Philly's DL in week 1 if he is the starter at RT.

Vederian Lowe has freakishly long arms but is a stiff as an athlete. I have no clue what kind of athlete Wheatley is because he didn't workout exiting college, but based on reports he's a good athlete which got his foot in the door. His tape also reflects that, he looks a lot like Sow.

Two weeks from now one of these guys will likely be cut or placed on the practice squad, I'd guess Lowe.

McDermott got hurt last week, then Reiff got hurt three days ago... both had been surpassed by Sidy Sow and frankly neither was very good. McDermott regressed to who he really is, a backup fit for the practice squad, and Reiff showed his age.

They brought in two tackles, much like they have done with numerous other positions a thousand times before. They're auditioning for one roster spot, backup swing tackle who can be that third guy.

This isn't any different than when the Patriots traded for Korey Cunningham and Jermaine Eluemunor at the exact same time (cutdown day) back in 2019.

They need a backup tackle... they signed Zeke two weeks ago, they needed a backup RB. This is team building.

I can see that, but depending on Reiff and Anderson, I think they might need two backup OTs to start the season. So I think they both might hang on for a bit.

I think Wheatley steps in and instantly is better than either Reiff or McDermott.

Anderson they should hang onto, but I don't know what's actually wrong with him.

Good comment re Mcdermott....he was pretty good (at least the No 1 back up RT) at the end of last season but has just not repeated that form in camp and pre season. Does not help things.

Ok "IAN".. there is alot of stuff posters should stop with.. I was adding to another posters point on something Becuase you don't agree doesn't mean someone has to stop. Just don't comment if you don't agree that's all!

Everyone posts when they agree and don't agree. That is what a community board is all about. Odd comment.
