Andrew Hawkins Announces Signing With Patriots
Julian Edelman, Brandon Cooks, Danny Amendola, Chris Hogan, Malcolm Mitchell and Matthew Slater are already locked into spots on the active depth chart. Hawkins will likely be competing with undrafted free agents Austin Carr and Cody Hollister in training camp. Devin Lucien and DeAndrew White are also on the Patriots practice squad.

To make room for Hawkins, the Patriots released wide receiver Devin Street and now have 12 wide receivers under contract.

Added Andrew Hawkins.

Waived Devin Street.

@PhilAPerry: Patriots signed defensive back William Likely.

Defensive end Corey Vereen has been waived injured.

Street taken off Pats shadow roster . returns to division..

Ferguson is the type of player Belichick loves. A player who came into the league a year sooner than he should have, went to a crap team with poor coaching but still is 25 years old or younger with a ton of untapped potential.

Plus he's a team first guy without a big e... never mind

So . bad minicamp can cost you a job . came in for Street after not signing futures contract .. got significant raise on last yrs PS

of course meanwhile Pats also brought in Hawkins

David Harris gets Jerod Mayo's old No. 51 with Patriots

If you're hoping to help lead the Patriots defense from the middle of the field, No. 51 wouldn't be a bad jersey to wear in that pursuit.

Those are the digits that were worn by longtime Patriots captain (and Quick Slants co-host) Jerod Mayo during his run with the team from 2008-15. . . .

Harris wore No. 52 during his 10 years with the Jets. That number has belonged to Patriots linebacker Elandon Roberts since he came into the league last season as a rookie, and it looks like Roberts will hold onto it for the foreseeable future.

No. 51 has bounced around to a couple of different Patriots since Mayo's retirement. Last year it was claimed by Barkevious Mingo, who has since moved on to Indianapolis as a free agent. Through this year's spring workouts No. 51 was worn by undrafted rookie linebacker Brooks Ellis, who now shares No. 47 with fullback Glenn Gronkowski.

If they're both on the Opening Night 53, then I would expect Elandon Roberts to defer to experience & superior talent, and swap #s with David Harris.

Harris may want to keep 51.

Someone has to be 90th out of 90.

Patriots are a bit thin on the offensive line now.

Some insight on Farris NFI . from Reiss:

Guard Chase Farris tore his Achilles while preparing for training camp, according to sources close to him. That is what led the Patriots to waive him on Thursday with a non-football injury designation. Farris, an Ohio State alum, was scheduled to undergo surgery and now hopes to make a run at a Patriots roster spot in 2018.

Noted that Andrew Hawkins has retired..
