OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Maybe Harry will have a shot at this with another team but it's incredible some non football playing track star can make bigtime plays with TB12 and a #1 pick couldn't. I don't know what happened.

Not fast/explosive, not quick/sudden, not fiercely determined, either not smart or not willing to study.....

That's a bad combo of negativity in the NFL.

Cyril is big and not only is fast but has football speed fast. His only problem has been his hands and it's understandable he's pretty new to catching, but he's been working at it consistently and if Tom trusts him then he should be okay. They're still not as good without a healthy Godwin and a mentally stable AB, but at least it gives them something to work with.

I feel like there is a lot more noise around Tom Brady mvp at the moment. Why the hell did it take so long??

They probably looking deep into the numbers and not just TD:INT ratio and #1 Seed

They are pretending to be fair and open before they ignore everything that means Rodgers shouldn't win the MVP. They did this with Peyton sometimes, too. This might have come about because of the guy who went public with his position about not voting for Rodgers.

lol sounds like Rodgers begged to play at least the first half this week against the Lions. probably going to go out there and try to toss a couple more TDs right at the goal line

The betting markets haven’t changed and Rodgers is still 80/20 per Vegas. To put it in perspective, Rodgers (-400) is the equivalent of a 10 point favorite and Brady (+500) a 10 point favorite. Tough odds, but it isn’t impossible…the race isn’t over.

I think Brady can win, though unlikely:

1. 4-5 TDs in the finale. If he ended up with 45, that’s a great number. Or, if he had a monster game and broke the passing yards record, that would be the biggest boost. It’s very unlikely, but who knows….one of the issues, though, is high yardage games from QBs typically happen if the game is high scoring on both sides.

2. Packers lose (somewhat important) to fall to 13-4, same record as Bucs. And Rams lose (more important) as Bucs get #2 seed. If the Bucs ended 13-4 and tied with the Packers for the #1 seed, but lose on a tiebreaker, that’s pretty big.

3. Hope Rodgers continues to be a giant prick to everyone. Let me amend that: hope Rodgers continues to be himself and continues to get negative attention. Then a surge of momentum can go a long way.

If Brady completes 16 passes on Sunday he will have the record for most completions in a single season breaking Brees' record.

Over on the Saints form they started a thread about it gnashing their teeth. I realize all they have for Brees really is his records and all of them are going to fall with the 17 game season and soon to be 18 game season. That's why winning championships is always the measure of greatness. Records come and go but titles are forever.

These regular season records have been held for shorter and shorter periods of time.

Marino broke and held a lot of records for a long time until Favre came along.

Favre only held them for a few years until Manning.

Manning held them for a shorter time until Brees.

Most of Brees major records were surpassed and it hasn't even been 1 season.

The old vets Rodgers, Ryan, Stafford, Cousins aren't going to break Bradys regular season records. So it will stand for a long time. A very long time if he plays 1 or 2 more years.

His playoff records are unbreakable.

After having one of his best season and one of the better seasons overall by a QB, it would be criminal if Brady doesn't get the MVP. It's also historic in that he is doing it at age 44 and that all these major records and milestones are being broken, ie 600 reg TD 700 total TD.

There isn't anything special about Rodger's season. His stats aren't exceptional. He has very low interceptions and that's it. His team at 15-3 is nothing to fawn about. Most years, the top record is 14-2 and sometimes 15-1.

historical stats like 600/700TD should be meaningless in the 2021 season NFL vote.

Don't know how Vegas could be so confident when Brady has clearly had the better season. Well there are only 50 people from the media that votes. Vegas must have the inside track to the intentions of these 50 people.

Names matter, if it was done by Rodgers, Manning, or Mahomes, you can bet 100% that historic stats would be everything.

If they screw Brady of the MVP at least he wasn't screwed as much as Brees.

I believe him
Brown hasn't been the same since he got this incredibly dirty hit...

It's similar to the Stingley hit but Brown survived.

Brady also needs 477 yards to break Peyton Manning's season yardage record. He's already gone over 400 three times this year so even if it's unlikely it's definitely not out of reach. If he does that how could he not get MVP.

I still think the Bucs have a really good shot to repeat too so MVP and repeat champ in the same year? Amazing. And well deserved.

Is he really done done or is his injury the type that can heal a year or two later?
No, done as in done. Career ending sadly. If that wasn't the case I think JE probably would join them.

These articles are starting to pop up over the place as folks start to look at Brady's numbers this year and realize he is leading in all the major passing categories AND has had 5 GWDs on top. I still think there is a chance for him depending on how Sunday goes. Don't gloss over this last sentence as that could be what propels him to the award.

MVP chatter is hot in the streets these days, which is fitting as we are coming to a close on the 2021 regular season in the NFL. Currently, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the betting favorite to win the award for the second-consecutive season. While you can most certainly make a strong case for the Green Bay star -- to the chagrin of some voters -- there's a pretty good argument to be made that Tom Brady is the rightful heir to the MVP throne for this season.

It's not hyperbole to say that the Buccaneers quarterback is in the midst of one of the greatest seasons of all time. Already, he's thrown for the third-most completions in a season in NFL history and -- if keeps on his 311 passing yards per game pace -- he'd slot in No. 3 all-time for the most passing yards in a single season. Sure, you can ding that latter achievement a bit for the extra game being added in, but Brady also leads the league in almost every meaningful statistic amongst his peers this season. Entering Week 18, Brady has more completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns than any other quarterback this season, including Rodgers.

As it specifically relates to the Packers signal-caller, Brady has nearly a thousand more passing yards than Rodgers at the moment. While Rodgers does have the edge over Brady in two key categories -- completion percentage and interceptions -- if you peel those numbers back a bit further, Brady does gain a little ground.

He's tied with Matthew Stafford for the most dropped passes this season (34) and the Buccaneers quarterback had a drop percentage of 6.9% that ranked 12th among quarterbacks (min. 50% of dropbacks), per Pro Football Focus. That includes a league-high eight dropped passes in the end zone (h/t Steve Palazzolo of PFF). When you look at Rodgers, his drop percentage is 4.1%, which is the third-fewest among qualified QBs. While Brady has more interceptions (12), it comes as the quarterback has dropped back 157 more times than Rodgers this season. Not to mention a few of those picks were tipped off the hands of Brady's intended target.

To move away from the nitty-gritty of parsing through stats, however, Brady has also put together multiple signature moments this season. Back in Week 3, he became just the second quarterback in NFL history to pass the 80,000 passing yard threshold and then surpassed Drew Brees for the all-time record just a week later. He also became the first quarterback in NFL history to reach 600 career touchdown passes in the regular season and later passed Brees again to become the NFL's all-time completions leader.

Of course, those mile markers Brady crossed to make NFL history don't automatically warrant MVP votes. They are merely cherries on top of the overall MVP argument. His true most-valuable moments have come in do-or-die scenarios during the Bucs season.
Back in Week 14, Brady threw a 58-yard game-winning touchdown pass in overtime to Breshad Perriman to beat the Bills, which was also the 700th touchdown pass of his career (including playoffs).

Just last week, Brady orchestrated a game-winning drive that traveled 93 yards on nine plays to beat the Jets. What made that drive even more impressive was Brady was effectively playing with no-names as the Buccaneers were missing a number of key starting pass-catchers. Brady was completing passing to the likes of Cyril Grayson (career practice squad player) and Tyler Johnson (2020 fifth-round pick) to earn the team's 12th win of the year.

You put any other quarterback in that situation and you're probably getting a different result, which further hammers home Brady's historic value to the Buccaneers. To reiterate, Rodgers certainly has a claim to the MVP this season. However, it's just not as strong as Brady's as we enter the final week of the regular season.

Oh yeah, did we mention that Brady is doing all this at 44 YEARS OLD?! Feels like that is worth a few extra points in his favor.

Brady has won NFL MVP only three times in his career?

I had to fix that headline. Of all the stats in Brady's astounding career this has been one of the most astounding of all. He could have easily had double that amount.
