It is pretty freaking awesome to think OUR QB who is still playing for goodness sakes is at the TOP of this kind of list. I have been watching the Pats since the early 80s and never in a million years would I have guessed we would get a QB who during his playing career not 10 or 20 years after he retired but during his career would be at the top of this list.

Simply no way Peyton belongs there over Sammy Baugh. Both played in five championships and won two. Baugh also happened to be the most important passer in league history for his influence, and he was arguably the best punter ever, and one of the best defensive players in football (14 INTs one year.) Baugh played for 14 seasons and was at least as impressive, statistically, for his time. It’s especially bad because this list is about best player and not just best passer/QB. Baugh should be #1 or #2.

Otto Graham is an obvious one too.

A joke of a list, rife with recency bias, as usual.
Baugh is #23, right behind Favre and Rodgers, where he should be. Now go ice your balls.

Peyton deserves his spot. If it wasn't for Brady he might have 4 or more Superbowls and would have been the GOAT of his generation.

I hated Manning but he is the second greatest QB Ive seen play football, I remember Montana in KC but that was past his prime. Mahomes and Rodgers are not even close to Manning.

Peyton will also forever hold the record of 55TDs in a 16 game season.

Hate him as much as you want, but you have to respect his game. Even Brady admired him and learned some things from him.
Peyton is nowhere near to deserving that spot.

I agree. Also Rodgers should not be on the list at all IMO.
Yeah, they had Manning higher on the every player list than he even deserves to be on the QB list. That's just nuts. Rodgers is still in flux, IMO. His continuing into these later years offers the opportunity for higher slotting for him, over time, if he can maintain truly elite level, but he's always going to be another one of the greats who were missing that special something.

Things had been trending toward Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead not being available for the season opener against the Cowboys. Now we know that will be the case.

Tampa Bay head coach Bruce Arians told reporters in his Tuesday press conference that Whitehead will be out on Thursday as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury.

Per Scott Smith of the Buccaneers’ website, Arians said everyone else on the active roster is “ready to roll.”

Peyton belongs above Johnny Unitas.

Yes he does deserve it.

In his prime his teams always finished at like 13-3 or 14-2.

In order to count the number of QBs that I saw who were better, especially in crunch time, I'd have to use both hands and one of my feet. He's the biggest playoff choker in NYFL history.

PEDton had trouble with QBs other than Brady too.

As Bill says, stats are for losers.

Respect for PEDton?!? For a guy who sexually assaulted a female trainer and joked about it in a book with pops? A guy who was caught using PEDs and blamed it on his wife and threatened the source to keep quiet? No thanks.
I said respect his game, that's nothing about the person. I hated Peyton but I always watched his games of hoping to see him lose.

Most drives were frustrating because he always picked up the first down.

Peyton belongs above Johnny Unitas.

In Manning's 17 NFL seasons, he finished with 13 wins or more 6 times, spread out throughout his career (years 2, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 15. So half of those seasons came when he was nowhere near his prime level of play.

And there's no planet on which he was a better QB than Unitas.

How is Unitas better?

Only QBs that can easily be placed above Peyton are Brady, Otto Graham, and Montana.

Graham got shafted by that list.

I was member on Colts.com back when the Manning Brady rivalry was at its peak. You would be hard pressed to find more than a handful of posters there that would put Peyton above Unitas and that was when most expected Peyton to break all the passing records and Favre's iron man record.

To this day, I've never understood this non-call. This has to be one of the worst I've seen. They had stalled the entire game...he gives himself up so the defense stops. Just like the entire 2015 postseason, utter and complete ********. 34-yard gain...they punted, but it completely changed the field position in a defense controlled game.

Imagine if Brady had done this and the outrage, the competition committee demanding an ad hoc session. I knew after that play that Manning was going to get another unearned Lombardi.

He also is the proud owner of nine one and dones, a fivehead and the inventor of the "Manning face".

He doesn't belong.

Unitas has some signature moments: maybe the most famous clutch performance in NFL history (due to it being the first televised game) in the 1958 Championship. Then the next year, riding his touchdown streak, in the midst of a record setting 32 TD regular season performance, and closing the deal by dominating the 1959 Championship game.

And just like Manning gets "credit" for his dogshit performances in the 2006 postseason (3 TDs, 7 INTs) and 2015 postseason (absolute dogshit, no need to get into it), Unitas gets credit for being the official starter of Super Bowl 5, bringing his championship total to 3.
