Assorted fan posts:

"Why, whatever changes we try make, do we ALWAYS end up a National soap opera? Just WHAT have we done so horrid in our past to have this **** year on year."

"Pretty much how I feel. Enough with the drama.
The losing from trying to rebuild is painful enough. Adding the extra drama on top isn't helping anyone."

"I still don't understand why any of this is out loud.
McNabb's agent shouldn't be saying anything. Neither Shanahan should be saying anything. McNabb shouldn't be saying anything.
I don't see how this benefits anyone."

"God this franchise Is embarrassing...
Why is it always us???? " (Shmessy: Don't worry, pal, Rex Ryan is coming to the rescue!)

Absolutely. We as fans don't have to be privy to every happening of the team, and that includes BB's real personality, log book of team meetings, etc.

BB's closed stance to the media is well established, but does anyone else feel that BB might have rewards for players who give particularly non-informative interviews? I mean, the issue of headhunting in the league is a complete no-no, telling players they will be financially rewarded for injuring another player, but what about rewarded for bland interviews?

With the way some of the Patriots smile as they give interviews in which they say very little of substance, it's almost like they're imagining BB paying them $20 for each "we're just taking this one game at a time" and $50 for each "I'm just trying to go out there and do my job". The player who says the most of these phrases each week gets a bonus, or something like that. It becomes a game with the media, to give an interview but not say anything of value at all.

It's possible to fall in between "More tightly controlled than the Mossad" and "completely unfiltered".

Belichick could give that a try and the world would not come to an end.

The world according to Belichick runs just fine as it is.

Which is why the Mossad doesn't get hit with Wikileaks.

When you look at the openness and media friendliness of the Redskins, Brad Childress and Rex Ryan, maybe that openness stuff is overrated?

I didn't start this thread, and I certainly wouldn't have done so in a season where Moss was able to talk himself out of town.

No. It's a matter of "What" is allowed to be open.

I think the players understand there's very little benefit to them to say anything of substance. I mean there really is no reason unless you're an attention whore like T.O. There's no real benefit or reason to do so, especially with the schmucks we have in the media.

I think BB does try at certain times. The problem is most media members aren't looking for information or answers so much as sound bites to drive their stories. They want something juicy and controversial rather than talk football.

When BB is asked interesting questions, especially with the Xs and Os, he responds in full and provides a lot of information as most of the guys in the room yawn and wish he'd wear a wig like Rex Ryan or flip out at the podium or something.

At other times, BB does stonewall them, but I can't blame him, especially about injuries. He can't predict the future, and he can't provide a real accurate answer. Plus there's no real benefit to divulging whatever little info he has sometimes. If it forces another team to spend time studying a guy who may or may not be available, so be it.

They can't literally do that b/c of the CBA, but deep down, players know that "It is what it is"-type lines will never hurt them in BB's eyes.

frankly its the media which masquerades as the voice of a pats fan which complains about BB's lack of openness. Pats fans are more or less used to and okay with it.

I would agree somewhat that BB's handling of the press made his job harder a few years past. After being f**d over by the league as much as any coach ever, I think he is a more relaxed person now, with the usual chip on his shoulder, but the knowledge they can't legislate his team out of being one of the best.

I actually think his press conferences are funny now, with reporters playing a game of asking questions they now they won't get answers to and BB's wry gently sarcastic wit as response (Brady finger, not life threatening).

Seems like this year BB has thrown down the gauntlet and said, I beat you with a bunch of castoffs in 2001, now I'm going to stock the team with two years worth of 2nd round picks, coach the offense and defense and kick your ass again.

He's kind of a competitive guy.

And the Moss thing was handles incredibly well, with a 3rd rounder to boot. Somebody's complaining about that?

I just think that BB is totally focused on wins, nothing else matters. He doesn't say or do anything if it doesn't help the team. The media is a necessary evil as far as he's concerned. It's already been said but it's true: when someone actually asks a competent, detailed question he generally gives an excellent answer.

I like the way BB does things. Why should the Pats be more open? Doesn't this fit into the realm of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it?"

Spot on. BB is about gaining as many edges as he can . The consistency of BB borders on inhuman in his pursuit of gaining edges.

As far as the Boston media being the voice of the fans...... fans want the team to win. Media wants readers/viewers. BB is good for the fans but sometimes less than good for the media.I call that a 'win-win'...

This is my take also, there is nothing going on day to day in the locker room that I need to know about or which will contribute to my enjoyment of the game on Sunday.

The things I want to know about, such as how does he really view the opponent, what college kid he thinks would be great and why are things that could hurt the team.

i am a fan, not an owner

He was dealt with precision and he's gone.

Thanks, you just proved my point.

If he was with the Vikes, Skins or Jets, the HC would have given him playcalling responsibility.

See Deus Irae's posts.

For whatever reason there are still some fans who want the Pete Carroll/Brad Childress Experience.

Yep, I always say that Borges, Shaughnessy, and the rest of their ilk have a job because there are actually people in Boston that eat that **** up.

BB's job is to coach the team, not to appease the media or give the fans unique insights into the Pats which could prove useful to others or embarrassing. I personally love his press conferences because of that dry wit previously mentioned in the thread.

He occasionally provides insights aimed at the fan about the game in general, such as explaining the risks inherent in man coverage.
