OT-ish: The gambling thread

I like the idea of a “shoot high” bet on the Pats. Maybe betting them to win AFCCG and then hedging if they get close to it. Big payoff. The way I see it is if Mac Jones is good, this will be an 11/12/13 win team with a chance. If he isn’t or they go with Cam, they’re a 7/8/9 win team.

Pats to win division is a good one too. IMO, if they win over 9 games, they’re probably going to be very good and I want to do better than 2X my bet.

Long shot bet I made a couple months ago +2000 Pats to win AFC championship game. Also took Dallas +2800, Colts +2200, and Texans +12500  to win SB.

random, but good point I suppose
This thread definitely does attract some random comments recently (probably due to the combination of the word gambling, and the thread being as lengthy as it is).

And that is without taking into consideration a few spambots whose comments (and links) have been deleted.

just lost 500$ on betting  hate this life. How are you guys earning money on betting? I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Before betting I'm analysing everything, thinking about all chances and results, and I still lose the bets. I started thinking that bitcoin betting is not really my thing. Maybe you guys know something that can help with it? I'm tired of losing money again and again. I have a lot of friends that earn good money on betting/gambling, but they don't tell me how to do it exactly
The only thing I’m turning a profit on is golf. anything else I’m a stone cold loser on. my picks in football werent bad this year tbh though but my bet construction was terrible

Whoa whoa whoa…. What’s all this talk about any of us in here earning money gambling? I know I sure as sh*t don’t…..

I actually did win money in May, but when you consider that it was only my 2nd winning month since the start of 2020, I can’t pound my chest over it….

if you want to be a winner, open a casino....no one ends up a winner betting. why do you think bookies still exist?

College O/U's for season win totals were released today. Alabama and Clemson each at 11'. So if you take the under for either team, all you need is one loss for that team.

I love the idea of taking both unders. IMHO there is a good chance you win both and very, very little chance you lose both. They've only BOTH gone undefeated in the same (regular) season one time. Given that each have new QB's, I just cannot see that happening again.

Do you mean 11 or 11.5?

Was just checking out draftkings futures:
Division Winner NFC West:
Rams +180
9ers +200
Sea +275
Ari +600

There's some value to be had for those with a strong opinion.

11.5. I use the apostrophe to represent one half, but I guess it doesn't show well on the forum.....

just wanted to clarify cuz I saw they were both 11.5.

I think Clemson is running the table in the regular season this year.

Bamas defense should be dominant. Play a harder schedule than Clemson. Bama is the better under bet in my opinion. DJU>Bryce Young.

Oklahoma is winning it all

Alabama has the tougher schedule top to bottom, but Clemson probably has the toughest single game. They open with Georgia, which will be a tall ask for a QB with 2 starts under his belt, one which was a loss and in the other, he barely squeaked by BC.

I kept waiting for the punchline as I read this.

Bills -150 I understand, but fins +300 and pats +350? +350 is hard to pass up, especially if you think the fins are better than the pats (ie, capable of grabbing 1/both from buf as well). Buf gets the 1 seed schedule this year and we get some tomato cans. The true odds seem better than the +350. Nobody in our division is clearly that much better than anyone else.

The jets are +2500 FOR THE DIVISION. Fwiw, this is a number equaled by the lions and bungles, and outdone only by the Texans at +3800.

Well, the very first game of the season = the very first bad beat of the season. I had Neb/Ill Over 52 1/2. Late TD makes it 30-22 (52 points) and the prick missed the XP. Remember this is college where the XP is still from the 2 yard line.

It's going to be a looooooooooooooooooooooong season. (Actually, given the way I did today, it's more likely going to be a very short season)

So what's the opposite of a bad beat? A miracle win? Well, whatever we call it, I had one last night.

EWU-UNLV and I foolishly take Over 67. They played a scoreless first quarter and combined for all of 9 points at halftime. Things loosened up in the 2nd half with a combined 31 points, giving us a total of 40. So I'm a loser, right? (Insert joke here)

Not so fast. Those 40 points were evenly distributed at 20 a piece, so they decided to play a little something I like to call "overtime". 2 quick touchdowns puts us at 54. Then an even faster EWU TD (+2 point conversion) to start the 2nd OT and it's 62. All I need is UNLV to score a TD!! I don't even need the conversion!! Fortunately, they scored the TD bringing us to 68 total. They missed the 2 pointer so they lost 35-33 but I don't give a crap about that.

Ah, the joys of gambling.....

At the risk of patting myself on the back (someone has to) the above strategy is off to a pretty good start. Worst case scenario is I lose a net of $300 if Alabama goes undefeated. If they slip up, I win a net of $2,000.
