OT: Bills interested in McCaffrey?

Since the Panthers restructured McCaffrey’s contract, the only money that his new team would be responsible for is his veteran minimum salary.
For this year correct? The team acquiring him is still responsible for the 11-12 mil he’s due to make the next 3 years?

How are the Bills able to get all these players ? I thought they had very little cap room available .
Fortunately for them, he has vet min salary this year. OTOH, trading him creates $18M in dead cap for the Panthers next year, so I doubt it happens unless the Bills cough up a first plus.

And @Ras-IR Dowling: most of his future salary isn't guaranteed.

Every time I hear about McCaffrey, I think about this. . . .

The Bills with Mccaffery is damn scary to think about.
Unfortunately, CMC is injured a lot. I say unfortunately in the sense that I just like him as a player, but he can't stay healthy.

Why would anyone take on that contract for an injury prone rb? Kareem Hunt makes much more sense.
He does have off-the-field risks.

The quote about Tepper being in win-now mode even after this firing is pretty concerning. A smart team would take the chance at getting a great return for an oft-injured player with miles on his wheels, even if it means taking the salary cap hit. Seems like Tepper wants his cake and eat it too. Doesn't seem to realize whomever he hires is gonna want his own players so draft capital is crucial, and CMC will be a burden rather than an asset during a rebuild cycle.

But they can cut him and restructure at any time. It's not guaranteed money

If Bills get Mccaffery it will just be sweeter to best the high powered team in the playoffs.

They are pretty well built. They really don't have superstars outside of Allen and Diggs. Tre White too but they're winning all these games without him, they've invested a lot of draft choices on the DL and DBackfield. I just don't think they will be hurt very much at all by any of their players leaving. It simply won't matter much as long as Allen and Diggs are there. This really looks like a long-term thing with them.
Don't sleep on WR Gabe Davis had 200yds against the Chiefs in that game last year. He also had 171yds receiving On Sunday.

His injury history is a concern. I wouldn't give up too much for him. Look for the Bills to be a team Damien Harris goes to in FA if this doesn't work out.

Damien Harris has a soft tissue injury every single year... He missed a larger percentage of games than Sony Michel did when he was here, yet everyone just turns a blind eye to the blatant fact that Damien Harris is an injury prone player. He gets zero grief from anyone about it, which is truly bizarre given how much people get their pitchforks out for other players who get injured (especially Sony!)

Let him go to the Bills, I hope they overpay

Wouldn't base anything off of public comments from the owner. 2 reasons, 1) wants fans to keep coming to games, 2) wants to maintain some leverage in any trade talks. ie We really want to keep this guy, but if you make it worth our while, you never know?

I mean.... we're paying Agholor 15 mil a year, we're paying Jonnu Smith like 11 mil a year, hunter henry as well...

11-12 mil for Christian McCaffrey whos still in his 20s doesn't seem so bad. He's way more impactful of a player than any of the above 3 I mentioned by a huge margin

I think H Henry will come around the other two oh well. That said I would love for us to make a pitch for young LB with upside don't want to waste Judon's and Barmore's year. I liked Christian McCaffrey very much but I would rather roll with our younger RB's on the roster.

Sign all beasts

I was a huge fan of McCaffrey and really hoped the Patriots could draft him but when he sat out his final college bowl game, I figured that he ruled himself out as a Patriot. I doubt choosing money over your team is in the Patriots player's guide.

In the same way it was (is?) with Mahomes and Hill/Kelce when their defense cost them a couple titles?

I'm not going to argue that a top 5 QB doesn't almost always have their team "in the conversation", but you still need a solid rest of said team to really be a true contender for a Super Bowl title year after year.

My question long term is how many of those high round picks are coming up on being "on the market"? That, more than anything, will determine their ability to "keep the band together."

Just what they need

Great! That's all the bills need is another playmaker, the guy we need is Brian burns the DE with the panthers.. want to see the RB on the practice squad Pierre strong, we have.. give him a shot..

He's a hell of player all purpose back, when HEALTHY, we all know patriots aren't going to pay any one.. all these draft picks we hit on as of late I doubt any of them see a second contract.. the guy I'd prefer on the Panthers is Shaq Thomas..
