People still can't admit that a coach's effectiveness is never a straight line, huh?

Let's try to make this clear. Belichick's football knowledge has always been absurdly high. There is no doubt he will always be one of the most brilliant football minds in the history of the sport.

But that is not enough to make a head coach. Most importantly, you need to have good judgement. And this is where Belichick lost most of his ability to be a head coach. He started making decisions that were not based on what made for a good football team, but rather, that made his life easier.

he replaced them with friends and sons of friends, that perhaps were either not qualified, or would not ever disagree with him
he started some outside of football interests that took away some of his time and attention
would never blame him for what happened, but I also would never close my eyes to it, nor blame others for what happened.

So weird that you cut off my actual quote - "not a good coach without Brady" which is the tweet that I was responding to.

I don't think that's up for debate. Unless you think a guy with a .426 win pct after Brady left is a good coaching record? I don't. Bill did a terrible job post Brady most egregiously with the clusterf that was the Matt Patricia OC season.

The teams that Bill put together and coached that didn't have Brady at QB had eight losing seasons out of eleven. Where was the Belichick magic then?

He was a great coach with Brady, Testeverde, Garopollo, Brissett or any QB worth a damn. He was great without them, but it’s a team sport.

This is true of the greatest coaches in history, they need the players. Tom wasn’t good without a good line in front of him or players around him. He won less than half his games after he got Arians fired.

Calling the preeminent defensive mind of our generation "not a good coach" was an odd choice… and a foolish one.

Of course you did, that's the central point of the argument you are making about him failing when he doesn't have Brady at QB. Look, Belichick wouldn't have won 6 Lombardi's without Brady, only people like Wozzyvwould try to argue otherwise, but he was still a great coach who put great team's around Brady, and he deserves the credit for that, just as he deserves the blame for driving Brady out oof Bew Rngland and the failures after that. All can be true, and imo are true, it's those who can't acknowledge that who turn these discussion absurd.

BB was as responsible for teaching Brady how to read a defense as anyone, Tom's words, not mine.

Bill also drafted Tom... so there's that. Tom didn't just appear from the mist like Excalibur.

I preach "team" and credit team for success or failure. Not Bill or Tom alone... that's just dumb.
