Missing Gonzo is obviously a big hit, but I really think loosing Peppers was more impactful to the **** show their secondary was. Peppers was an enforcer and communicator. Dugger is not a leader back there, but needs to follow a clear plan. I'm not sure if Hawkins is that guy, but someone better get it together (and perhaps it's Woodson)

Granted it is one week in so I am not hitting the panic button yet but yesterday's offensive performance is what worried me about the Maye/McDaniels pairing. Josh wanting Drake Maye to play like Tom Brady when that isn’t his skillset. He’s more of a freeform Josh Allen type than a multiple reads, 15 play drive, type guy.
They're not an 80% pass offense. They should never be that. I have no idea what Josh was thinking. I mean, I do, they were trying to stack the line, but old Josh would have at least tried to run the ball sometimes to run the clock if nothing else.

The Raiders were even worse than the Patriots running the ball yesterday. Ashton Jeanty still got 19 carries.

I think this is spot on and it's going to be a problem. If McDaniels and Maye don't mesh that's going to hold the team back.
I just don't think Maye is equipped to dink and dunk down the field and be a "take what the defense gives him" guy like Brady was. Drake is an extend the play and find a man downfield type. McDaniels should be using Daboll's strategy with Josh Allen and trying to put some guard rails around your young QB while still building the offense around his strengths.

I thought Woodson played pretty damned well for his first game.

He needs to play more like Tom Brady and be accurate. Missing easy passes is a big problem.

Josh Allen didn't start winning until he learned to throw checkdowns.

Christian Elliss shouldn't even be on an NFL practice squad. He was pathetic.
Elliss is a run defender. The raiders averaged about 2 yards per carry.

Elliss is a special teamer who is the Patriots starting linebacker. That speaks to lack of depth more than anything.

I am not concerned about the defense.
It’s the damn offense, same issues still plague us.

I’m giving Vrabel a huge leash, Wolf and McDaniels are the ones where heads could roll.

Wolf first, followed by McDaniels.

Someone please work on Maye with his damn Mechanics.
You can’t give up 140 receiving yards to TEs and another 220 to a pedestrian WR group.
To not be concerned about this defense they should have shut down that passing game, not allowed consecutive scoring drives if 71, 52 and 66 yards in 3 of the 1st 4 drives of the second half.

We didn't really run the ball well all day and just became completely unbalanced because of it. I don't think Henderson looked like Barry Sanders out there but he seemed to be running the ball a little bit better than Stevenson and Gibson. Granted he got his carries mainly in spread/passing set plays but if that helps the run game then have Henderson get more carries like that.

I wasn't the biggest Peppers guy but it is hard to believe he couldn't have helped out there yesterday. Watching Hawkins get toasted on that early TD and then that back breaker on 3rd and 20 where no one knew what Davis was doing showed how flawed that secondary is without Gonzo.

Agree. Ellis and Hawkins are practice squad level guys who start for us. Add in 1 catch in 41 snap Hollins and we have some glaring personnel issues to either fix or figure out how to compensate for.

Gonzo should be back in the next 2 games.

That fixes that, plus the secondary needs time to gel.

Ideally you would want any quarterback to play more like Brady but missing layups is something that seemed to be there with Drake in college as well. The hope is that can be coached out of him but the jury is still out on if that will happen.

People ****ting on Pop Douglas yes: he that drop but Maye missed Him wide open in the Slot. Ray Charles could have completed that how wide open he was. Maye is terribly inaccurate at times not a good recipe for a young QB.
So he should have had 1 more than his 2 catches for -2 yards and that’s good?

Well or not, they didn't try. Henderson had 5 carries for 27 yards. And he only gets 5 carries? And you only run 14 times? What even was that?

Gonzo doesn’t play safety.
Doesn’t every team need time to gel?

It has to happen, if this team wants to be successful anyway. It’s not the system, Josh Allen runs the same system in Buffalo.

Maye is just the youngest starter in the NFL, he’s the same age as Cam Ward. Maye needs to make the layups, making the layups at a ridiculously efficient rate was what made Brady great.
