Some might argue it's year 6 of the post-Brady rebuild.... though I get why some prefer to selectivity edit out the past half decade.
Whatever gets you through the night terrors.

Some?

They are definitely are on year 6 of a rebuild.

Anyone who says otherwise was fooling them self then, not now.

Overall there were some things to like and a lot more to hate. But it is the first game of the season and the first game of the season can be an aberration. Remember the Patriots beat the Bengals the first game of the season last year and looked fairly impressive doing it.

There were times this team looked pretty good on both sides of the ball today. A lot more times they looked awful. The return of Gonzalez should fix a lot of the big play issues the defense gave up today. I have faith that McDaniels and Marrone will fix some of the issues with the o-line and this group playing together will develop more consistency and cohesion. Hopefully, Maye can be more consistent and more confidence. He seemed to get too rattled at times.

I think Landry was a steal of a free agent. His impact was definitely felt.

Boutte could become a legitimate #1 WR from what I saw today. I don't think Justin Jefferson or Ja'Marr Chase have anything to worry about, but he could be the best #1 X WR the Pats have had in years. Not a high bar.

It is hard for me to really give strong opinions about week one since many of the stuff we saw today may be irrelevant in two weeks. We have seen this team perform awfully on week 1 in Super Bowl years (the blowout in Buffalo in 2003 most notably).

Didn't Biscuit finish his one win game??
No. His one win was against the Bears. The other wins he was credited with was the Jets which he was losing when he left and the last game against the Bills. That's pretty bad when you think about it.

Here late so way too many posts to read through them all.

Maye wasn't great, but I put just as much blame on McD. Our offense really slowed down once LV started crowding the line and blitzing. McD needs to adjust to that, did we see even one screen? There was a point earlier in the game where Maye was in a rhythm and looked good. Just like the past few years, when you don't threaten the deep 3rd, defences shrink and the short stuff gets really congested and much harder to complete. I think we will see (or really hope) Willams have some deep shots next week.

Running Game was horrific, needs to be much, much, much better!!!!

Coming into the game my biggest worry was the Run D, and outside of a couple of runs early, they really settled in and were stout.

Boutte was impressive. He's the new Meyers. Not a crazy fast great athlete, but just gets opens and catches almost everything.

It was one game. I'm not ready to write Maye off like I have seen others do. Coaches need to call a better game on both sides of the ball.

Lots of work to do.
I know a lot of fans are ready to pin this loss on McDaniels’ play-calling, but let’s be honest—this isn’t just about scheme. Yes, the offense stalled once Vegas started crowding the line and blitzing, and yes, a couple of well-timed screens or deep shots could have slowed them down. But football is simple at its core: players have to execute. Today, too many didn’t.

Quarterback play: Maye flashed early but looked overwhelmed once the game tightened up. He missed open receivers, stared down routes, and clearly wasn’t processing quickly enough. Compare that to Bo Nix today—also under pressure, also a rookie—but still able to adjust and keep his team moving. If Maye wants to be “the next Josh Allen,” he has to show poise when things aren’t clean.

Running game: Flat-out awful. No backfield rhythm, no push up front, and zero threat to balance the offense. If you can’t run, defenses sit on the short stuff, and we saw exactly that—congested passing lanes and a QB forcing throws.

Defense: The run D settled down after a shaky start, but let’s not pretend they dominated. For most of the game, they gave up chunk plays and only looked sturdy once Vegas backed off. It was a step forward, but not nearly enough to swing a game like this.

Bright spot: Boutte was a pleasant surprise. He looked like a new version of Jakobi Meyers—tough, reliable, always finding space. But one wideout who can move the chains isn’t going to win you games when Diggs disappears and the run game is a no-show.

Bottom line: Blame McDaniels all you want, but when the QB is missing throws, the run game is nonexistent, and the defense can’t string together stops, play-calling is a secondary issue. This roster simply lacks talent in too many spots. The Patriots will improve, but we’ve got to reset expectations: this team isn’t one clever call away from competing—it’s multiple playmakers away

We better not see slow poke Stevenson start the next game.

Same with no show Douglas. My god, how in the world does a slot receiver end with negative yardage.

Forged in Foxboro... don't believe the hype....

Ya, Dougie is gonna have to be a LOT BETTER if he's going to meet RF02 Numbers.
Dude sucked donkey balls.

It was the first game of the season and rainy so I'm gonna temper everything.

4 sacks was good but Davis had a bad game and geno lit it up

Stevenson was bad. 46 passes was alot, not sure why Henderson didn't get more carries.

The broncos are barely beating the titans and Bo has 3 turnovers. Detroit got their ass kicked. Miami looks really bad. Jets lost.

Mostly tight games today. Give it time

hmmm, lets blame the coach. Players play. Drake looked like **** in the secoond half and clearly overwhelmed. Sure didnt stop Bo Nix when he was down today. I dont think Drake is the guy, I think we will find all this BS about being the next Josh Allen is crap. they couldnt run the ball, defense looked like crap in the first half and most of the second half. Boutte isnt going to win us games, Diggs no where to be found.

Drake missed open recieves, was looking in the wrong places. But calling the game - jesus no on on offense had any clue what was going on so play calling is a non factor, lets make beleive all we want but the Pats are a long way from being competitive and it inst coaching it is pure lack of talent.

They will get better but our expectations are way off. I get tiered of the coaches play calling thing, football is pretty dam basic, so many errors on the part of the offense today its hard to even calculate the number of them.
Defense looked like crap in the first half?
Gave up an opening TD, then zero pts the rest of the half.
LV coaches adjusted at half, we did not. You honestly think coaching shouldn't share the blame on that?
LV started crowding the LOS and blitzing in the second half, did you see our O adjust and call some blitz killers, likes screens?
Of course the players play, but if you don't think coaching can impact the game, especially a lack of adjustments, then I'm not sure what game you've been watching.

In fairness, at this point in Josh Allen's career, they were calling him a huge bust and not the guy. Allen was awful his first two seasons.

And Nix has turned the ball over three times today and has only passed for 175 yards and 1 TD so far today. And one of the Broncos' TDs was set up by a 50 yard run. The other one was a two play short field TD where one of the plays was PI giving the Broncos nearly half the yards needed to score. Not sure why you would be using him as the guy you wish Drake Maye was. The only reason Nix is going to win today is because the Titans played like dog crap while the Raiders played really well in the second half.

Yeah Wards receivers including olde friend Ridley had some big drops. Donkies easily could have lost today.

Yeah, Maye was bad today. No way to sugar coat it except be patient. Maye did look more professional. Now he has to settle down his mechanics as the game slows down for him.
I wouldn't assume Maye was bad until we hear more. The pick was not his fault, he got hit as he threw. He sailed one early on, big deal. He mostly had trouble finding open receivers, which might have been his fault but maybe not.
