Gio Bernard still sidelined today, so likely not playing in Saturday’s preseason finale. Real question now as to whether Bucs carry a fourth running back on the 53.

Asked what positions he's still looking at Saturday, Bowles points to left guard, receiver depth, corner starting job (opposite Davis), backup ILBs and few more special-teams related jobs.
Bowles on new OLB Genard Avery: "He's a good pass-rusher and a good teams player. We thought it was a value to have him. Rather than look for somebody like that in the middle of the season in case someone gets hurt, we thought it'd be a value to have him right now."
Bowles on Tom Brady's absence: "If it wasn't a situation that we (had) talked about, if it wasn't important, I wouldn't have done it. Obviously, I have that kind of relationship ... they all have private things they come to us with. His just came to light more than the others."
Bowles on Tom Brady returning: "He missed 11 days, but he wasn't playing in the first two (games). If you count his days off, plus the days off naturally, he would only practice about three times. He's fine with everything. We know his conditioning is fine."
Correct. I wouldn't expect Godwin to play, or Wirfs or Gage or McCollum or Bernard. Not sure on Logan Ryan.
If the Bucs carry nine OLs, there's a good chance Fred Johnson and Brandon Walton both make the cut. There's some chance they carry eight and count on being able to get ninth through waivers to practice squad, where they can be elevated as needed.
Curious to see which Bucs corner starts Saturday opposite Carlton Davis -- Jamel Dean or Sean Murphy-Bunting. Both were held out of first preseason game, both started the second with Davis held out. If Bucs go with a three-safety nickel, one of those two is rarely on the field.
Detriment
Another debatable 1st pick by Bill but it can only be talked about in the Brady forum. It doesn't get any stranger than that.No but its a Wynn
Brady's career isn't even the greatest in Boston team sports. Bill Russell (RIP) has that honor. The Bucs didn't plan an extended absence for Brady so the backup quarterbacks could get some extra reps. So their extra reps happened under unusual circumstances. And I'd much rather Brady get in his normal amount of training camp reps, especially considering the reconfigured offensive line that he's dealing with.
Brady's been in the league for 22 years... are you aware of any teammate ever anonymously criticizing him? Nary a peep for 22 years. You think one of his current teammates wants to be the first teammate ever to provide an anonymous criticism?
Hahaha yes I'm ashamed to hold the opinion that a professional athlete - the most crucial player on the team - should put his professional responsibility ahead of a timeout with the family in the middle of training camp. Absent a family emergency relating to someone's health, he should have been there. If he took the time off for the Masked Singer, or a trip to the Bahamas, or some other trivial event, then it was a douchebag move.
Ultimately I don't really care (unless the team looks discombobulated to start the season). I don't think any less of his career (which is the greatest of any professional athlete of any team sport). Brady's a killer on the field with an unparalleled competitive fire. There's no reason to believe he's not bringing that same intensity every second he's on the field.
Well I suppose that's the intolerant way of looking at it
How does that apply to what Bowles said? There is no "I" in T-E-A-M.
How does that apply to what Bowles said?
"His came to light more than the others" meaning Brady's celebrity put it square in the media's spotlight way more than than the other players that went to Bowles. I'm not saying other players took a lot of time off but he was saying others have come to him for other things but they weren't in the spotlight like Brady was. No way can you derive from that Brady was above the team. Bowles was not saying that at allDoes this really need to be explained? He offered a non-answer to why the face of the franchise/team leader took 11 days off in the middle of training camp. Then he proceeded to justify it with one whopper of a rationalization.
If you're starting with Evans, Godwin, Jones, Gage, Johnson as the top five Bucs WRs, that leaves at the most two spots for anyone else. So yes, out of Darden, Miller and the three rookies, only two can likely make the 53.
As usual, Bucs have a light week next week after cuts and before Week 1. They’ll be off from Saturday night’s gsme until practices on Wednesday and Thursday, then off until the next week.
