You don't beat good QBs by beating their tackles. Pressure up the middle is where it's at.

Technically, yes, you're right that he didn't formally announce it until the postseason, but it was strongly implied and talked about all season long.

Again--after seeing these "farewell tours" from major QBs, I don't get the impression that Manning would keep that a secret, but we'll see soon enough. His pact ends after 2016, and there haven't been any indications that this is it. As a matter of fact, some believe he'll play through 2017.
