NFL Trade Deadline “Ideas”

I see KC, NE and Philly landing someone. All 3 of those teams will get somebody pretty good to help their secondary, it’s just a question of who goes where.

McCoy to Philly will happen

I have always been a Hugh fan of Shady McCoy and knowing we will have to win Games with our Offense. I would be interested in his services he's a complete RB who is more reliable than the alternative Rex Burkhead.

what do you all think of Shane Ray coming to NE?

2018 NFL trade deadline: One move for each AFC team to make

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: Buy linebacker Shane Ray (or a different edge rusher). ESPN's Bill Barnwell floated the idea of a trade for Cleveland's Jamie Collins (reunions are always at least interesting), but this one makes more financial sense. Sure, Collins isn't guaranteed any money beyond this season, but he didn't have the best relationship with the Pats when he was traded away, and he also just turned 29. Going with the younger Ray would be more frugal, since he's on the final year of his rookie deal with the Denver Broncos. This compensation should be a 2019 sixth-rounder, but New England traded that pick to Detroit for Johnson Bademosi once upon a time, so we'll up the round in exchange for a year's delay, even with the spotty injury history of Ray, who has dealt most recently with an ankle sprain. Potential compensation: 2020 fifth-round pick.

Landon Collins or Patrick Peterson? Which one would help the D more?

Collins.

Best idea I've heard so far. His cap hit for the remainder of 2018 would be around $600k. Although he's UFA in 2019, new contracts for safeties took a nosedive this season, so he might still be affordable.

OTOH, Gettleman would have to be insane to let him go for the same reasons.

Peterson is the better player right now, but we need a Chung understudy for the future. On the flip side, Collins is a free agent next year, so it would probably be better to just sign him if we wanted him here. Peterson could completely transform our defense and has a very reasonable contract for the next couple years. I don't know that we'll make a move for either player (or any player), but it's fun to dream.

Safety is pretty high on my list going into next year's draft. Chung and McCourty are getting up there in age, and we need to start training the next generation soon.

Damon Harrison was the only good player left besides Olivier Vernon and Janoris Jenkins, who are outside their price range. Landon Collins misses too many tackles. It's an ugly defense, I wouldn't want any part of those stiffs.

I’ll take Collins or Jackrabbit. Both excellent players at their respective positions.

Anyone and everyone is available in Oakland

I know we've mentioned Gareon Conley in the other thread, who would be very interesting.

That said, one guy I want to bring up is TE Lee Smith. He was drafted by the Pats in the 5th round of 2011 as a blocking TE, and supposedly was a very hard cut at the end, and they wanted to bring him to the practice squad . Bills claimed him instead, then he signed with the Raiders in 2015 and has since turned into that blocking TE specialist. He is signed through 2020 with cap charges of $3.35M for 2019 and $2.4M in 2020. He has a base salary of $2M in 2018, presumably about $1M would be owed by the Pats so he could fit in with their current cap situation.

Might not be a sexy move, but it's someone who can add to the ground game effectiveness and then replace Dwayne Allen for cheap next year.

Okay. My wilda$$ guess is that the Pats make no trades at all.
Perhaps some under the radar deals. AZ D/T Robert Nkemediche is young and could dominate in college. He has had some growing up to do. He is on a pace to have perhaps a break out year. At 6'5" and 296 with speed, he is the disruptive inside player in the middle like Seymour. I am not comparing them, just saying Nkemediche has ability. This could tun out to be a steal.
Another disruptive guy could be Bruce Irvin of the Raiders.
The deal that might help the Offense the best would be TE Jared Cook from the Raiders. He is more elusive than Bennett was but could play that role. Allen is no threat and Hollister is too fragile.
Could Tahir Whitehead of the Raiders help at OLB?

Agreed they're gonna have to extend him another 5 years bc that team is a borderline expansion team.

He's a mediocre coach that really got lucky w someone else's players. His ego is so big he's burning the place down just to prove a point.

Draft Picks are great but that team already had major holes & he's created more.

If they don't have HOF worthy drafts over the next 2 years they're done. Only chance that team has is if the owner suddenly gives Reggie the reigns back bc Gruden can't draft for sh it. Ask any TB fan how he left that team. He left that team a mess. Guy thought Johnny Football was a top 5 pick.

The myth of Gruden is perpetuated by a good publicist and the willing press who all think he is greater than he is.. all of this is about him, rather than being about the Raiders.. my over under is about 4 years in the NFL before he is jettisoned to the "has been" pile...

Smith is bigger than Allen - 6'6"/265 v. 6'3"/235. OTOH Smith is also 2+ years older than Allen. He'll turn 31 on Nov.21st. Allen turns 29 in February.

Although Allen hasn't shown any receiving skills since he's been with the Pats, he produced more as a receiver in 2016 alone (with Indy) than Smith has produced in his entire 7+ year career.

I'm not saying that Allen is worth his $6.4M cap hit in 2019, compared to Smith's $3.35M, but this sounds like a trade that might be more appropriate for next March, rather than now, if Allen won't agree to a contract adjustment/extension down to Smith's contract level.
