I haven't been tossing out every name that hits the internet. Andre Holmes was part of my 2nd/3rd level of UFA WRs; once those at my top level (Marvin Jones, Rishard Matthews, Jermaine Kearse) were no longer available, then I began to focus on more under-30 but less expensive possibilities such as Holmes, Rod Streater, Chris Givens & Leonard Hankerson. I had assumed that Hogan would be re-signed by Buffalo, so I hadn't given him as much consideration; and Nate Washington was grouped with the over-30s such as Anquan Boldin, James Jones & Marques Colston all of whom I still liked, at the right terms, provided that at least one or two of the younger ones above were signed.
I consider my approach more Next Man Up than Tossing Out Names.
I am in the James Jones (Jones caught 50 and had 8 TDs in an emergency role. He is only 31 pr just a few months older than Amendola), Anquan Bolden (AB caught 69 with 4 TDs and QBs that were poop last year), Andre Johnson camp (Johnson still had 41 catches and 4 TDs with injured and declining Colts QB play).
Another Vet?Roddy White might still contribute and a great locker room guy. He caught 43 last year.
Cousins let's consider this; Would Bolden have been open for TB on one or two more completions in the AFC Champ game versus La Fell, Martin, White or even Amendola for that matter? The guy just wills himself open! I want him for crunch time. Lets the kids get beat up in the regular season.
Chris Givens is still very interesting. Youth , size and speed. He was hampered by bad QB play when Flacco went down.
I am not a
Percy Harvin fan, but Percy brings one thing that La Fell, Martin and Amendola can't bring....fear by opposing defenses. He was the best WR on the Bills to start 2015. He's only 27. BB knows him well. Can he or will he contribute?
Trades?
Juron Brown from the Cards. 6'2" and 205 . Can play ST. Said to be a starter on many Teams.
How about a trade for
Justin Hunter? 6'4" and 203lbs. Speed burner. Is he worth a low pick to the Titans? Only 25 and his hands or routes were not in question. His head was not in the game....ie bad coaching.
How about another "2 for 1" trade: We are thin at CB. Bucs "spare" CB
Alterraun Verner only 27. With the Titans he was playing at an all Pro Bowl level in 2013. He is dying a slow death on the Bucs. Terrific with the Titans. 11 Ints in 4 years and 23 pass broken up in 2013. He can't be this bad , this fast.
PLUS
33 Year Old V
incent Jackson for a mid round pick for both. I think the Bucs bite if we can redo contracts.
We have ten picks. We can't use them all. Let's get a ready to play guy or two.
Thoughts?
