NEW ARTICLE: MORSE: Patriots 7-round Mock Draft 4.0

Do not want to sound derogatory, but I do not understand this mock..

Perhaps later it will become clearer..

You are not the only one, It reads like we turned 15 into 3 first rd picks.

Jaycee Horn was the 23rd pick
Zaven Collins was 37
Elijah Moore was 46
Quinn Meinerz was 84
Davis Mills 96

Nice haul but a head scratcher in hieroglyphics to understand.

Why does it look like the Pats are picking 15,16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21? Have to agree, this makes no sense.

If you guys are not sure then there is no hope for me.....some good players mentioned though.

Confusion aside:
Picks 1-6 would be as close to a grand slam as it could get without moving up for an impact QB.
Like Eskridge as a player, but with Moore already in the fold would look for a bigger WR like S. Fehoko, N. Collins or S. Williams.
After that it's rolling the dice on players with a skill or attribute that you can think will help the team.

I looked at it and I'm not quite sure either. I've reached out to Mark for some clarification and I'm sure he'll hopefully help make a little more sense of it.

Don't understand the methodology either, but I absolutely LOVE the first 6 picks where they were taken, as well as 7 of the first 8 and 8 of the 10 overall...Not a fan of Eskridge with Elijah Moore already in the fold as Hornet85 stated above...Same with Mitchell when Ben Mason's about to be chosen with the very next pick...

I think this is what he is saying:
  • Traded 1.15 to the Jets for 1.23 and 2.34
  • Traded Stephon Gilmore to Arizona for 1.16
  • 1.16 -- CB Jaycee Horn, South Carolina
  • 1.23 -- LB Zaven Collins, Tulsa
  • Traded 2.34 to Philadelphia for 2.37 and 3.84
  • 2.37 -- WR Elijah Moore, Mississippi
  • 2.46 -- OL Quinn Meinerz, Wisconsin-Whitewater
  • 3.84 -- QB Davis Mills, Stanford
  • 3.96 -- ??? (presumably traded down?)
  • 4.120 -- DT Bobby Brown, Texas A&M)
  • 4.121 -- WR Dwayne Eskeridge, W Michigan (not sure how Pats got this pick; maybe in trade with 3.96?)
  • 4.122 -- S Divine Diablo, Virginia Tech
  • 4.139 -- RB Elijah Mitchell, Louisiana
  • 5.177 -- FB Ben Mason, Michigan
  • 6.188 -- CB Avery Williams, Boise State
  • 6.197 -- OLB/DL Cam Sample, Tulane

I'm guessing there was a trade of the 3.96 pick, which means some of the draft slots from the fourth round on may be off.

Edit: or it may be this (same except without the Gilmore trade):
  • Traded 1.15 to the Jets for 1.23 and 2.34
  • 1.23 -- CB Jaycee Horn, South Carolina
  • Traded 2.34 to Philadelphia for 2.37 and 3.84
  • 2.37 -- LB Zaven Collins, Tulsa
  • 2.46 -- WR Elijah Moore, Mississippi
  • 3.84 -- OL Quinn Meinerz, Wisconsin-Whitewater

  • 4.122 -- WR Dwayne Eskeridge, W Michigan
  • 4.139 -- S Divine Diablo, Virginia Tech
  • 5.177 -- RB Elijah Mitchell, Louisiana
  • 6.188 -- FB Ben Mason, Michigan
  • 6.197 -- CB Avery Williams, Boise State
  • 7.242 -- OLB/DL Cam Sample, Tulane

Yeah it makes no sense for the Cards to trade for a 30 year old big contract CB when they could have the 2nd best CB on the board for 5 years on a rookie contract. So remember in any Gilmore trade the team has to give up draft capital AND a hefty cap slot. I think a 2 would be a reach. I think will be better for the Pats to simply just play out the contract. Its not like they are stiffing Gilmore by only paying him 7MM this season, Its just he got most of his money early. The contract was done this way so they wouldn't have to be in a situation where they would have to make a football decision base on cap space like so many were done this off season.

Gilmore is very cheap at 7 mill

With all these mock-draft, are we factoring in the possibility that the Jets may not pick a QB at 2? How will that shape the future? They can decide to go with Pitts for #2.

I think 1000% they take a QB. They traded away Darnold, at 23 they won't be able to draft one. This would require a trade up from there or go into the season with a mid rd. rookie and tank

I'm a fan of medical and recreational marijuana, but not before posting a mock Patriots draft on this message board,

I've done it before...Maybe Bill oughta give it a try as well...Can't do any worse ...

Bad (auto)formatting.

I imagine if he used something like #15 or [15] or whatever it wouldn't do that.

While Meinerz seems like he has the Patriot mentality, I wonder if there's a roster spot for him (Karras's $3M this year is $2M signing bonus + $1M salary).

If the Jets don’t take a QB....

Thank you for clarifying this. The software we use took the numbers and converted them to sequential. The important part is that I used Bacon Grundle Candy's Patriots Draft Board for my selections as they became available in the First-Pick draft simulator.
