Honestly, he should be fired in that case.

Because telling the people running your offense, who lack offensive coaching experience, and are only holding the seat warm for your preferred choice, to keep running the same system that has been used for 20+ years is hardly an "iron fist".

Its completely crazy to let your 1 year fill in offensive coaches completely redo your offensive system and risk the development of your 2nd year QB.

Maybe Patricia and Judge were aware it was a stopgap role and agreed to being put in that situation.

It's an assumption that BB green-flagged complete redos to the offensive system; that's quite a strong phrase. Large tweaks seem more fair - I don't think it was a complete, fundamental overhaul.

And perhaps those changes were with BOB's eventual arrival in mind.

I think there is one massive flaw with your theory.

JJ/FM completely redid the offense. If the plan was to get BoB in 2023 then why would move to a new offensive scheme that BoB doesn't use, instead of keeping the traditional Patriots scheme that he does use?

Perhaps Bill does not run the offense with such and iron fist grip?

No matter which way one looks at Bill's options for OC last offseason, it seems that he chose the absolute Least-recommended way possible to go; and I still don't know which reason for doing so is worst: saving money, mis-guided loyalty, looking for seat-warmers etc...

BTW Waterboy you are aptly named if you think Bill doesn't have a "clue" about ANY aspect of the game of football.
What do you suppose his level of involvement was with installation of the offensive system and play calling was last year? There were plays that they couldn't check out of, receivers running into each other, endless reliance on screen passes, etc.

Why didn't he take the offense into his own hands or did he?

Bedard continues to be garbage. He's been hot garbage for years now. If you believe anything out of his mouth, that just reflects poorly on you.

Belichick ‘Still Pissed’ About Mac Jones Going ‘Outside the Building’ For Help in 2022
Ian Logue
While Bill Belichick may have said last week that they're putting everything that happened in 2022 behind them, it sounds like he's still got some issues that he's apparently not fully over just yet.

Where there's smoke there's fire. BB still giving the huge 'No Confidence' vote to Mac Jones.

Here's more discussion about BB's reticence to name Mac Jones the starter. You get the feeling he definitely doesn't love Mac Jones as his starting QB.

Who the fcuk is that d-bag in the video? This guy is a complete moron, or he is just playing dumb. Before I regrettably clicked on the video, I knew BB would say everybody will get a chance. BB has been saying that every year since I remember. The only smoke I see in the video is the smoke this d-bag is blowing up people's asses. I can't believe this guy has a job talking football.

If you're talking about Mike Florio, he's the owner of PFT - Pro Football Talk. I met him at a friend's celebration party once. He might come off as a bit arrogant in person, but I guess that's just his personality.

Whether you like the news or not. It does seem like there's a definite rift between BB and Mac Jones. It's reasonable that BB would feel salty about Mac Jones going behind his back to talk to other coaches. Then again it's also BB who put Mac Jones in a bad position in the first place by putting Matt Patricia and Joe Judge in charge of the offense for 2022.

The thing is that BB has connections, if you're gonna chat up the football coaches at Alabama to complain about your current situation, it's gonna get back to BB.

Or, Bill, preferring Patricia to be his successor rather than Josh McDaniels, concocted a scheme to run McDaniels off to Las Vegas and insert Patricia as OC expecting that Patricia would do such a swell job that Kraft would agree to Patricia being the next emperor of the NEP.

That’s a more plausible scenario than Bill not asking serial contract breaker Nick Saban (Cleveland -Michigan State-LSU- Dolphins-Alabama) to let O’Brien replace McDaniels. Saban could have had his replacement in 2 weeks like how he hired Tom Rees (under contract with Notre Dame) to replace O’Brien this offseason.

Looking at how things are going in Las Vegas. Bill might have spared us Josh having his 2nd HC failure on our time in exchange for one year’s horrible offense with the side benefit of destroying Matt Patricia future with the Pats. 3-D chess, you know.

Oh FFS can we get the **** over this ****ing bull**** and move on. Let’s quit acting like a bunch of dramatic HS freshmen girls. BB and Max and whoever else is pissed needs to man the **** up, build a bridge, and get over it.

We can, but the mediots can't, their kids need braces, their country club membership needs paying.

I'm pretty sure Matt Patricia destroyed his own future by showing off his incompetence for the entire year of 2022. If the dude knew he couldn't handle running an NFL offense he should have just said, "I can't do it Bill."

Bad decisions all around. But the past is the past. BB admitted his mistake, dumped Patricia, and hired BOB to fix the offense.

The matter of the bad blood between Mac Jones and BB, it can be fixed very simply. Mac Jones needs to goto BB's office, apologize, and then play his ass off, prove it on the field that he deserves to be the starter because of his actual ability, not just because of draft position.

Normally BB would give a 1st round pick every chance to hang himself before cutting the cord, see N'Keal Harry, but with what Mac Jones did last season going behind his back, BB's patience seems to be running thin. Mac Jones is going to need to make a very good case for himself in training camp competitions.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see training camp tilted towards Zappe or a promising rookie.

I'm still pissed they blew the Green Bay game in OT.

The whole thing just shows me how untenable the 2022 situation was, and how Bill eff'd it up royally. I think he very much underestimated what needed to be done offensively, and over estimated what JJ/FM could do.
This.

And don’t be a homer. This is a fireable offense.

No. It wasn’t a stop gap thing and it was a complete overhaul of the offense that failed so miserably that they were already scrapping most of it by midseason. They wanted to run the Shanahan offense without Shanaham type personnel. And Belichick has wanted to switch to that for a while.

And odds are that O’Brien’s system will be the system he ran when he was here a decade ago with some tweaks and modernization. It will not be the offense they tried to run last year. The personnel moves the Patriots made, especially on the o-line, shows they have given up on last year’s offense. None of the tackles they signed are zone blocking type tackles.

Seems you're swimming against the tide.

Apparently looking at things from open-minded point of view makes one a "homer".

The only acceptable thing is to jump to the conclusion that puts our team in the worst possible light.

The only evidence needed is the utterances of people who make their living by stirring up ****.

Misery not only enjoys company, it insists that you come inside and stay for dinner, which is a **** sandwich.

After the Brady/Bill smoke, the subsequent denials by team and fans on here, I learned that where there is smoke there is fire is applicable here too.

After years of reading comments on here about how bad Boston sports media is and occasionally watching NBC Sports Boston for first time this year I have come to realize that for many here "bad" = "how dare the talking heads say a bad word about my team" and "good" = "kissing my team's ass" (e.g. Reiss)

This is a lot like that time Tom Brady insisted his young teammates call him "sir" and kicked Jimmy G out of the TFB center.

You people really like soap opera garbage...

I thought Hoyer has been released before and then came back a few years ago...
