According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Stevenson and the Patriots have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth up to $36 million, which includes $17 million in guaranteed money.

Wow. Even though the Patriots have plenty of cash and a ton of cap space, I'm still surprised. Good for him.

the ankle injury he suffered late in the year saw him miss time over the final month of the season before he ultimately ended up on injured reserve.
Fortunately, that injury seems to be behind him. Stevenson is now focused on having a big year, spending this offseason seemingly slimming down. Several reports said Stevenson looked lighter, but the veteran said he’s actually the same weight as he’s been. Instead, he claimed he’s simply been eating better, and it helped him lower his body fat while getting to a “better weight.”
He said last week the goal was to make sure “my body’s ready for the whole season.”

That's all great news. I have to admit that I have been concerned with the amount of wear he has endured over the last three years, and the injury just added to that uneasiness. Hopefully I was just over thinking the situation.

So, a five-year contract (1 plus the extension).

Perhaps the guarantee is the bonus plus guaranteeing his 2024 and 2025 salaries.

We'll see the structure, but a likely $15M bonus for a 4-year contract extension doesn't seem all that huge.

I'm thinking relative to other running backs.

Obviously what was 'big' at one point in time gets eclipsed over and over until it is average. We see that every year with QB contracts.

But as of this moment that guaranteed money ranks seventh most among all NFL running backs.

More than I expected given last year's performance. He plays like 2022 and he is worth it.
