so
CLE made a huge mistake and it will hurt their team.

and
This a problem the league should step in and stop.
=======
If poorly run teams make stupid decisions and fail, this will NOT hurt the league. Better managed teams will do better.

BOTTOM LINE
The pot of revenues is the same, even if some teams make stupid mistakes.

We gave BB **** for placing a value on a player and sticking to it, but that is what it would take to end this craziness.
It stopped working towards the end because other teams figured out how to manipulate the cap and push money out.

What above market deals have they done in past 5 years?

2021 were all above market deals for the quality of players they signed. And Harold Landry’s deal is competitive.

perhaps you think that he should have given up $10M AAV to sign with another team.
If he wants to win? Yeah. He should have.

Never again should he open his mouth and complain about the team. He has signed up for this.

Does this move make it safe to assume they don't draft carter or could we be seeing the formation of a scary pass rush duo.
It would be a win for the Pats if the Browns now feel the need to draft Sanders, if Ward goes #1.

Could be a sign they're serious about Shedeur. I think for Garrett to sign they had to sell him a vision of being competitive and that includes a plan at QB. And they pretty much can only afford a rookie there.
Daddy sanders will have his son hold out instead of playing for the Browns.

I can see Garrett asking to be traded again next off-season, if Cleveland lands with a bottom 10 record. He signed a huge contract, that he might not have gotten if he was traded to Philly, so that part is out of the way.

Any chance the NFL goes the way of the NHL--new contracts can't be reworked/extended until that final year?

For example. Patriots sign Maye to a 5 year deal worth 50 million per year in 2027. Maye can't hold out nor get a deal reworked until 2032. Months before his FA year. Note: I'm just making up the term and money as an example. Obviously, if Maye is great, he will set the market.

In the NHL, a player cannot hold out for more money nor get extended until one year prior to his FA day.

They already have something similar in place for rookie contracts, so I suppose doing something similar for vets isn't the single most far fetched idea in the world.

However, I am not sure it would work in the NFL since the contracts aren't guaranteed and I don't see either side really pushing for it in the next CBA.
