Tomlin had a .600 winning record since 2020. Arguably he got better the most recent years, especially in light of the QBs he’s had those same years
he had 1 HOF QB, 1 almost HOF QB, 2 first round draft choices and a 3rd round draft choice in that time frame. was unable to elevate the play of any of them

"ran his course". "change of scenery"
for me, both mean he got stale. his team got stale.
they could not get Rudolph, Fields or Pickett to another level. they were stale with Russ. They were stale with Rodgers.
Won't miss those staring eyes looking at me. His tenure has run it's course, time to move on.

I 100% agree
my point is I don't want him near a young developing QB without better understanding who he is bringing with him

I'm a W&M alum, so this tugs in a very slight way on my heartstrings... always felt a kinda sorta affinity for that reason only. (Small school, and we tend to turn out government people not football people... but also Jon Stewart and Patton Oswalt)

Here is what I find fascinating:

who is going to play QB for Pittsburg next year? There are no good choices that I see....

Russell Wilson? May be cooked and the Steelers probably won't pay him, anyway.
Isn't Daniel Jones' contract up? I don't see them paying him.
Maybe trade for Anthony Richardson?
Kirk Cousins seems cooked?
Jamis Winston?

Rudolph?

Trade for Mac Jones?
Malik Willis?

Left while his brand is intact as opposed to going thru a rebuild, mired in QB purgatory. Good move.
They kept choosing to keep the band together instead of blowing it all up and going with a young QB. Now they have a pretty bad cap situation and a lot of aging vets. Old and slow and overpaid. Reminds me of the Pats a few seasons ago, yet there is no Drake Maye on the board and they don't have the draft capital to get one even if he was there.

Wonder if Tomlin is going to take a year or if he's going attempt to ride off into the sunset, but fall off before he get's to the ranch gate...
The Squeelers have his rights for a year so they will make any competitor pay to get him.
Personally I think he looks like a guy who could use a year off.

Anyone else thinking that he did not step down voluntarily?

imo, the Rooneys told him it was time... Gave him the option to step down instead of firing him...

The steelers maintained a level of success over the years, but that will take you only so far... haven't won a playoff game in what, a decade?
I thought the same thing, but I'm not certain.
I for one have left jobs voluntarily knowing I didn't like where things were going.
The man has earned enough money to not need to be working.
Same was true for me: I was close to retiring, had options, said **** this noise.
He probably saw they needed to do a rebuild and probably didn't want to do one.

I imagine the media will be breaking down his door.
That's what the rumour mill was saying a week ago.
IMO he saw the end coming and his agent put out feelers.
He knew PIT had his rights for a year.
So, why not give that path a try and if you don't like it, go back to coaching?

Seems like kind of a ****ty thing to do to a guy who was your coach for 20 years. Hold him hostage and potentially limit his market to get a draft pick.
I suppose, but the one thing the Squeelers really need is draft capital.
Very few teams would give up the opportunity to take draft capital off a competitor.
Business is business.

Disingenuous description of these guys by you here. You're purposely listing things to inflate the level of player they were. Ben was in the last two years of his career, late 30s and coming off serious injury he suffered in 2019. Russell Wilson may be an "almost HOF QB" but he obviously was washed. Picket and Fields may be 1st rounders but they're clearly busts as has been proven in and out of PIT. Rudolph as a 3rd round pick was backup caliber at best and that's not even a bad outcome for a 3rd round QB so expecting Tomlin to make him a good starter isn't fair.

This is like saying the Patriots gave Brady a good set of weapons in 2006 because they had a pro bowl WR in Troy Brown and a new HOF running back in Corey Dillon. It's true, Brown made a pro bowl in 2001 and Dillon is near HOF level at RB, but we all know those are disingenuous characterizations of what they were in 2006.

Hard to win with the corpse of Rodgers at the helm.
1st ballot HOFer coach.
He did a great job with some of the more challenging players in the league. That says it all about his leadership skill.

my comment on 1 hof QB was for ARodgers not Ben. I also thought year 2 of Rodgers with the Jets was much more effective than year 1 of Rodgers with the STeelers

Russ had a rating of 132 with 3 td's and 1 int against the Cowboys this year, and apparently got hurt in that game, and banished to the bench

Fields showed some promise with the Bears. he regressed with the Steelers (and the Jets)

I don't think anyone really disputes his leader qualities.
it is his offensive philosophy and coaching hires for the offense I question

Smart organization doing smart things. Don't know if this will cause a rift between the org and Tomlin down the road but in the end of the day the Steelers are maximizing value. If they could get a 1st and a 2nd from a team who needs a coach (usually teams picking in the top 10) that could jumpstart a much needed rebuild.

stats are irrelevant 60%? why wans't it 70% and 2 Super Bowls? After all, vintage NFL teams are much, much better than that since 2020. Looks and mirror LOL

folks here think that he's a failure. They need no reason.

8 seasons running
77 wins. 54 losses. 0 playoff wins
is that HOF?
In the last 8 years,

7 teams with more wins
Tomlin
24 teams with fewer wins

======
As an aside, the Ravens were #3.
======
When those records are not enough for management and fans and themselves, then it is time to move on and win somewhere else.

the point wasn't how many teams had more, or less, wins
the point is, does that record say HOF?
Tomlin is the Russ Wilson of HC's

BTW, the Pats dodge a bullet here. If Tomlin stepped down after last season, there is a chance that Arthur Smith and not Josh McDaniels would be OC of the Patriots. Vrabel loves Arthur Smith.

No. Certainly not first ballot. There are a lot of great coaches trying to get in and Tomlin isn't significantly better than a lot of them. Then again, he's a Steeler, so it doesn't matter.
