The good thing is he already knows the offense so he can pretty much step in and contribute.

It's funny how so many players leave here for greener pastures and eithet end up back or never duplicate the success they had here.

Thats why bb is the goat i guess

Wow 19 pages to read through. lol. Happy to get Bennett. Hopefully ready to dance again. Not much news on scheduling a physical for him but he might not require much. See more probably later on today (It now being Friday). Good to read the progress this thread made. lol.

My thoughts exactly. He can also contribute in lockeroom spirit. And he will block hard. He will win again. For some reason we know the spirit of a winner and he has it. And Bill knows it. So the questiin about why not let him go after just philly to claim him. I say we reclaim champions. This organization from the top to the bottom respects people that work hard and win. And it is great that marty is back home!

so has bennett said anything yet or just his wife?

would be nice to see if hes excited and able to play, or if hes just done.

I'll tell y'all everything one day, but wow. Oh, yeah, and that Chasa guy sucks. I can't believe I'll have to deal with him again.

Just a joke, people

I wouldn't celebrate this signing too soon.

I am happy for it - but this needs a few days to play out.

I agree Icy. If MB is ready to play and he can do what he did last year then wow! this is a mid season acquisition up there among the most impact-ful. This kind of proven production down the stretch (and 3 playoff games) is an amazing gift especially one that appears very cost/cap friendly and no future exposure if he isn't MB of 2016.
It just is something that seems out of wack here -- something doesn't add up. Green Bay, a 4-4 team that is not out of the hunt for a WC spot, just shelled out a pretty sizable amount of money for MB (i believe they accelerate his cap hit from approx. 1 million to 7 million?). 8 games in they release him, take the cap hit, declare a FA signing fail, but also claim an undisclosed injury.
MB is now out there for any team to take on MB's contract for 8 games at something like 2.5 million(?) and, if wanted/as needed, can cut him at the end of the season without it costing a dime for 2018. So, incredibly, a healthy MB and his reasonable 2017 cost and no future cost concern contract makes it past 31 other teams (some of them in need of a good TE) for the Patriots to claim him.

Do I have this right? If so either something is wrong with MB's health and/or fire/enthusiasm for the NFL, or MB outright wanted to come back to the Patriots and he leveraged a few backroom moves/behind the scenes to get back here. What other explanation am I missing?

When he was cut I was one of those of said "almost zero chance he is coming back here". So if he is MB of 2016 then WOW am I glad to be wrong! But I just can't make sense of how a reasonably healthy and functional MB at a reasonable cost/risk could make his way back to the Patriots only half a season after he left the Patriots saying he was leaving because he wanted to maximize his earnings.

Finally something positive on the roster front . even if its just for the playoffs

The amount of money for MB this season is peanuts. What is not cheap is a roster spot. BB would not gamble one on a wish and a prayer. Welcome back Marty!

I think the writing was on the wall for Allen to be cut after this season, anyway, barring a terrific season. They’d save 5m dollars by doing so.

The big question is whether or not he’ll make it through 2017, and I think he should stay. Not much reason to cut him aside from the roster spot.

I dont think there is any pressing need to cut him during the 2017 season especially as insurance for Martys shoulder and additional situational piece. But with Marty potentially under contract for two more years, he will be definitely a goner after this season.

Fingers crossed that Bennetts shoulder is mostly fine. There must have been some kind of behind the grapevine communication about his medicals for the Pats to claim him - or maybe it really was just to a) ensure that comp pick and b) have the two years on his contract as option in case his retirement talk was just BS.

I don’t think you can pass up a 5m dollar cap savings with Allen’s situation at the end of the year, so I think he’s gone no matter what. I’ve kind of thought that all along, barring a pro bowl type of year.

As far as Bennett goes, he’s due a 2m dollar roster bonus in the spring, so depending on various factors, he could end up as a 1/2 year rental, too, and if that happens I’m fine with whatever decision Belichick chooses to make. In the meantime, we’ll hope this is a longer term move, but it will need to be reassessed in a month or two.

Somewhere in the Universe Troy Brown is saying....

"BINGO, we got BINGO, we did it again"!

Can’t they just cut Allen. My god what a terrible fit for this offense and Brady. Makes Scott Chandler seem like a great move.

I thought he was having surgery?
