Martellus Bennett : [UPDATE: Placed on IR]

This situation has many layers to reveal yet . from what actually happened in GB, how it will play out and what Marty can actually give on the field. What is certain is that if the situation was reversed (Marty from Pats to GB in this manner) fans here would not be too happy about it.

McCarthy just torpedoed any hope of a grievance by GB and gave Marty all the ammunition he needs to file one against GB.

How many games did Marty and Gronk play together last year?

3?

Because Bennett is a beast and the Patriots miss that toughness he was a monster blocker and redzone threat.

If he plays then it likely will be limited. He sure could help our red zone issues.
Whatever it is I am sure he will appreciate it not being 85% which was his snaps in cheese land.

Whats the point of clearing someone and paying 400k if you know that he is essentially IR bound ? It is not like his contract is so friendly that you wanna keep his rights.. especially after he was already pondering retirement.

$400k is nothing. Christ they paid Reggie Wayne that. Plus if he goes on IR it'll be less than that. Clearly the team decided it is ok with the financial risk and the roster spot and is going to work with Marty and see if he can help them. If he can't, he can't and it was worth exploring.

Packers are going to be in trouble here as well is my guess

It's worth the gamble. Tommy needs to put the ball where he doesn't have to reach up with his hands.

You were talking about someone with a broken arm. There is nothing to explore in the situation you compared it to.

In this situation obviously there is a chance he can push through the season so obviously I agree with that assessment.

So Bennett says he will try to play through it. The Pats declare him questionable for the game on Sunday and he is traveling with the team. And Reiss says it is possible he is active. And you somehow feel like a surgery is incoming ? Seriously ?

At some point this season....yes

And Im sure that the reason BB had him blocking 100% of the time was because he is incredible in the passing game

Note: I believe TB did not have a sack before they played the Pats.

Note: It wasn't Allen who gave up the sack against TB.. But WTF do you know.
Forget the fact that Cannon was playing on a bum ankle at the time as well.

Please. Keep your inane comments coming. I love when people show how totally clueless they really are about this team.

Marty is just smashing that trashy organization in the press.

Martellus Bennett: I wanted shoulder surgery, Packers wanted me to keep playing

He wanted the surgery thenn, but not now? This weird to me

In any case, im glad Marty is back. Him and Gronk are a powerful duo (when healthy i mean)

As others have pointed out, the decision probably came from Marty looking at the Packers status without Rodgers and with the OT situation being what it is and decided that he'd be better off having the surgery done.

Now that he's with the Patriots, he re-evaluates his situation. He probably even talked to Belichick on the phone yesterday about the situation with his shoulder after it was official that he'd been claimed.

While Belichick may have been in the "Old School", I think what happened to Ted Johnson, Tedy Bruschi and Junior Seau really hit home with him. In the past 10 years, he seems to have taken a more cautious approach with player injuries.

I had an MRI show partial tears of my rotator cuff and labrum, not really worth the surgery and 6-12 month recovery, but not exactly pleasant either. And of course I'm not trying to play in the NFL...

It's was EXTREMELY random if and how much it hurt, like I had the pain be like 1 out of 10 after beepin' rock climbing one day, and a month later be an 8 out of 10 after doing nothing all day just because I rolled over in my sleep and put pressure on it in just the wrong way. Lucky for me it calmed down on its own with just rehab, but it gave me a few moments of horrible pain seemingly at random and I can't really bench press heavy weights without pissing it off.

Point is the effect on Bennett day to day could be anything from "eh so what" to "arm is dead today" depending on the severity of the injury and how well he's able to avoid aggravating it.

Although it depends on the severity, simply Google-ing "play through torn labrum" reveals several players who've done so. Ed Reed in 2012, Luke Kuechley from week 17 throughout the Panthers SB run, Anthony Davis (NBA) for 3 years, Andrew Luck (2 years) and Bears guard Kyle Long.

Hightower in SB 49.

It was a figure of speech.

60% of Brady is better than almost any backup he's had
60% of Rodgers is better than almost any backup he's had
60% of Seymour was better than his backup

There are plenty of other obvious examples.

So what you're saying is that Hoyer is 15% better than Hundley.
