Martellus Bennett : [UPDATE: Placed on IR]

Yeah if you read his Instagram post, I don’t see any possible way he plays this season. Sounds like he needs the surgery

MB has a torn rotator cuff. Um..hes not playing a down.

So he is just hanging out at practice and all the doctors that are saying it is a pain tolerance thing have no clue what they are talking about. Ok then..

Based on Instagram (I know, I know) it doesn't look good for playing
We could get a 50/50 Bennett, held together by super glue and duct tape, or we could get a situation involving a bunch of drama.

Up in the air at this point in time.

That's because he was being asked to block 100% of the time during that game,.. Just saying.

And Im sure that the reason BB had him blocking 100% of the time was because he is incredible in the passing game

Note: I believe TB did not have a sack before they played the Pats.

Then why was he practicing today?

None of this makes any sense.

He is trying to play through it because he actually has a shot at the postseason here. He decided to get surgery with the Packers after realizing that the season was going nowhere without Rodgers and he would only worsen his injury for no good reason.

I dont get the confusion.

He is known as one of the best blocking TEs in the league which is a big part of the reason why they traded for him.

Everyone check Martellus Bennett's Instagram Story (@martellusb), he explains his point of view (posted it about 45 minutes ago). He claims the Packers pushed him to play after knowing how bad his shoulder injury actually was (and adds some other details). He said he chose to get surgery and that is when the Packers decided to release him. Not sure why he would now want to play through the injury with the Patriots though. Thoughts?

This is crazy. Man did marty shred this doctor.

So this means potentially 3 things...

1. The Patriots have lower health standards than GB.
2. Marty changed his mind and is trying to play through it and will get surgery and the end of the year.
3. Hes gonna drink a ****load of water, eat avocado ice cream and buy snake oil from Alex Guerero for the rest of the year.

"Sorry, but the arm needs the surgery"

"In that case, I'll give it a shot."

It looks as though that's part of their grievance. If he were 100% at this stage, they wouldn't have a case.

EDIT: He has a torn rotator cuff. So, yes, they can cut him (they did). And, yes, they could have put him on IR. So, if they chose the first rather than the second and filed a grievance at the same time, it's a strong inference that they cut him because they were angry.

No?

They cut him because they claim that he hid the torn rotator cuff injury from them. Hiding an injury is grounds for being cut when injured. However, he's since claimed that they knew about the injury and that he let them know weeks ago after they played the Cowboys.

There's a very good chance that Bennett can file a grievance against the Packers for cutting him when they knew he was injured and he'll be able to keep the money..

Teams aren't allowed to cut an injured player without an injury settlement.

I think it's a big difference between playing for a championship and playing out the string.

If nothing else get it fixed and be ready for next year. It all depends on a) if he can do additional al damage by playing
B) pain tolerance

Jesus he went off...I have no idea what to expect now..surgery...play..

I think your first conclusion is straight out of the realm of conspiracy theories. He explicitly said that playing through it was an option also in GB but he decided against it. It was his decision to get surgery.

Number 2 is a winner.

Maybe. I also think #1 is influenced by the financial commitment. Since there isn't any long-term risk to the team financially, he could have a broken arm and they'd still clear him. If he was signing a $65m deal then their standards would be much higher

If he plays then it likely will be limited. He sure could help our red zone issues.

Whats the point of clearing someone and paying 400k if you know that he is essentially IR bound ? It is not like his contract is so friendly that you wanna keep his rights.. especially after he was already pondering retirement.

^ Likely sums up what Bennett is thinking right now well. Him saying “F**k it” backs that up too.

In that case:

1. I respect the hell out of him playing with this injury

2. How will he block...?

I feel like surgery is incoming
