You know it's funny. When watching film on both Cooks and Dorsett last season I liked Dorsett better as an all around receiver which included blocking etc....

I'm glad to hear he's somewhere within the Brady's circle of trust because if they can get on the same page it could be an awesome deep threat combo.

He seems to have good hands and has made a few contested catches during the limited opportunities he had. IIRC, a few of those contested catches were because Brady under threw him due to a lack of continuity (or something) but again if he and Brady on the same page, wow.

Anyway, I think this could be a big season for him. Maybe not in yards or TD's but in impact.

Now that's just me watching film so take that for what it's worth.

Studying film instead of career receiving stats?? How dare you!!

Ok Chicken Little. Stay scared that Bill Belichick, josh McDaniel and Tom Brady can’t figure out how to get 3 receptions a game out of a group of 4 veteran NFL WRs.

They’ll be okay. Roughly 75% of their offense depends on protection and the health/performance of Brady and Gronkowski. I predict they’ll still be a great offense this year because of of those two players alone. That doesn’t mean they’re deep at WR or that these 4 guys in question are going to be good. Sometimes even productive receivers (Thompkins, Lloyd, to some degreee Cooks) really aren’t a great fit, but they’ll still get their yards because they’ll have targets from TB12. I could see their lack of depth being a big problem against elite defenses and a Gronk injury would make this a potential Chicken Little situation, ala the Miami game last year.

Truth is Malcolm Mitchell had a better than average career for a 4th round pick. He will be paid for 3 seasons and was able to contribute to the greatest comeback in SB history. That’s not bad for a 4th rounder.

It’s amusing when people talk about how poor the Pats are at drafting and developing WRs. They’ve never drafted one on the 1st round in the Belichick era that I can remember. Three in the 2nd round. One was a bust, one never could stay healthy, but the last was a SB MVP. Maybe, we should give them credit for drafting David Givens and Julian Edelman in the 7 round and having each start for two SB winning teams.

Saw the same thing, and not only those things, but also the separation.

Malcolm Mitchell is another BUST.

Admit it. Full of promise and feel good stories about reading books and all that BS.

We took a gamble in the 4th rd. We might not have 51 w/out him. We knew he had issues w his knees & it didnt work out long term.

That's NOT a bust.

Its not.

He was supposed to be a steal. Great leader. Big upside. Down the road.
Thats not a bust. Thats conjecture based on unrealistic expectations.

Look at the studies that show how successful 4th rd picks are in playing 3+ years in the NFL.

Hint: it sucks

Are you ready to go back in time, draft someone else and HOPE someone plays as well as Mitchell did in Super Bowl 51? Winning Super Bowls is hard. I don't mess with that.

Gotta get a good scout when it comes to wr drafting.

Another draft bust.

Besides Branch and Given,s when has a NE drafted a WR actually worked out? Andelman was a QB who was developed into a slot WR to replace Welker. Slater is only special teams.

Name me a drafted college WR who has stuck on this team?

Fire wr scout
Honestly has their been any position in all of the NFL that has been given the least amount of home grown talent?
Who picked Deion Branch?
Where is that scout?

I wouldn’t say he was a bust, so much as a shot we took that just didn’t work out for the long term. I could care less if we get an impact player in the 1st, 4th, 6th, via trade, via supplemental, off the streets or from your local Popeyes. I used to care, but at some point it clicked with me and I understand all that matters is every year for nearly the past 20 years, Bill and his staff have used every single resource available to them to build and field a competitive roster. Sorry to see Mitchell go. He’s a good guy who has overcome a lot of adversity in his life. But, his departure opens the door for another to take his place and be the next feel good, shot in the arm story we love.
