It’ll be interesting to see what Chicago does. I can see your scenario playing out, but I can also see the Bears moving on from Fields.

Whatever Chicago does will have a domino effect on the first 10 picks or so and could really impact the Pats decision to go for a QB or not.

I don’t understand people getting all worked up over rumors about what they can get in trade.

Rumors, reports… none of that matters. All that matters is the free market value at the time.

Pats fans were convinced they would get multiple firsts back for both Matt Cassel and JimmyG… both were worth a 2nd and change to teams that had the resources.

For Mac? I’ve got some sour patch kids loose in my pocket, they’re nice and warm…

While I agree with you, I can envision BB trying to give him the best possible opportunity.

Why would he do that ? Unfortunately the truth of the matter is Bill tied his wagon to Mac… and Mac failed at the most important aspect of football. Don’t turn the ball over … he alone has given up about 40 points between his pick six’s and turnovers deep in his own side of the field this year alone. I’m guessing the players on defense must have hated Mac. Bills future is uncertain because of Mac, I’d hate the kid as well….

To the poster who quoted my hoping against hope we could win win with Jones,
And of course I wanted the signal caller to be good.
Dig up the draft forums where I have Him ranked below QBs who were in the middle rounds. It was a rollercoaster I looked at his stats assumed he was really good and all the talk of the niners taking him in the top 3 i didn’t thoroughly go over his tape.
Once about three weeks before the draft came about I watched the tape and read the reports and saw someone who had below average arm talent on a loaded Bama team.
If you go back to the day of the draft I wanted Fields.
And was furious when we didn’t go up and get him.
Them a plethora of emotions when they show our draft room and pan on Mac Jones.
My head starts telling me Bill knows what he’s doing im
Wrong about him you can’t measure his heart at the combine blah blah.
I even said omg are we gookg
To take him we are going to frickin take Mac Jones.
Went back and watched the tape again and said ok we just need to fix that arm strength.
And I bought into Bill knew what he was doing cause we desperately needed a Franchise QB.
Yes i buy every draft picks jersey and memorabilia on the Pats.
I always have. But I had Kellen Mond, and Davis Mills and others ranked in front of Jones.
But fell for the in BB we trust
Made a mistake on what Cowboys got for Lance my mistake,
But read a legitimate source about Fields and Jones value to other teams and it had me furious.

You went from praising him on draft day to calling for someone to be fired for picking him.

The Pats had no choice but to take that shot when it fell to them. There were lots of people putting Jones in the Top 2 or 3 of that class, and many though SF leaped up to get him.

You know this. Your quotes (and there are more) are in my previous post. So saying now that someone should be fired because of some speculation (probably your own) about trade value is truly a **** move.

Fields seems like he has some potential, whether or not that’s ever realized is certainly questionable. Mac is broken and doesn’t look like he belongs in the league. A team would have to take a total flyer on him

Mac sliding to the Pats at 15 was what most people were hoping for. In fact, had he not had the losing skid at the end of his first year, the Pats would’ve had the #1 seed and he absolutely would’ve won rookie of the year.

In terms of trade value, I’m sure a team will trade at least a 4th rounder for him. The backup QB is becoming more valuable than ever with so many injuries.

At the time I will admit that I was happy that Mac lasted until the Pats chose him at #15.

Why?

I still have visions of Cam Newton throwing the ball three yards into the ground in an attempt to hit a reciever who was only five yards away.

Obviously Mac did not work out, but at the time the pick made sense to me.

Being wishy washy isn’t a symptom of bipolar. Besides, just admit it. You were pumped and caught up in the excitement when the Pats took Mac. I was! Loved the pick. Knew the arm strength wasn’t great but thought it was more than enough. I was wrong. Thought he was tough. I was wrong. Thought he had anticipation and was cerebral. I was wrong. I don’t think Bill did him any favors but Mac didn’t have that **** you dog in him to try and prove people wrong. He instead turned into a whiny player that didn’t have a spine. I should’ve known from the moment he was doing his hyperventilating exercises that something was wrong, but I didn’t. I thought for sure that **** would pass.

then he went something like 25tds and 10picks his rookie season and lead us to the playoffs. it went off the rails the following year with patricia/judge and has only gotten worse.

but lets not act like this was some catastrophic mistake....like drafting N'keal harry who never did anything.

Which us why we need to have a top five pick at least...just to have the opportunity to jump to 1.01 with our 1.05 and another pick....I won't like giving up two firsts though. I could live with 1.05/2024 2nd...

Funny thing is Patricia gave him a power run game to protect him, they even started last season throwing deep except Mac threw it to the other team. This season they tried throwing but a lack of a running game hurt.

Go back and count how many games had no first half offense. Most half time scores had us at 7 or 3 points. Most egregious was his turnovers when the defense was stellar. ie colts and giants game. I don't see how anyone thinks he has value at this point

Triumph likes to talk out of his rectum so I wouldn’t take any of his noise as thoughtful football analysis or premonition.

Regardless without the benefit of hindsight the pick was fine. We got a QB who was supposedly very accurate and also under the national spotlight a lot at Bama and did well so he probably wouldn’t wilt in big moments…and they weren’t foolish enough to move up for him or even Fields like some wanted. He wouldn’t be elite but with the right team around him he should have done well.

My question is if he doesn’t have the aptitude to succeed at this level and it looks like he doesn’t then why did it take BB almost 3 years to figure that out?

I think the odd trajectory of his career is why it took 3 years.

Had he looked like he did in year 2 with McDaniels or an actual OC I think Bill moves on last year.

But the move to have Patricia/judge coach offense was so unorthodox and bad that they treated this year as a reset.

Unfortunately he became even worse this year.
