List of Pre Draft Prospect Contacts (2010)

Just giving you guys a heads up. Word through the grapevine is that Patriots complete their list of who they want before they even begin invites.

The guys they invite INTO Gillette are guys they have questions with whether it be character or on field.

Usually an in stadium visit is not good news.

Considering the number of reported "visits" who were drafted last year, and in years past, I'd say it's not bad news either.

FWIW, it was four out of 30.

Can I just point out, that it was always rumoured we had Butler in for a visit as well, and we also had Adrian Grady in for a visit - who we later picked up as a free agent and is now on the roster.

4-3 or 3-4, there seems to be a focus on day 1 & 2 DTs. This doesn't strike me as an encouraging sign about Ron Brace.

Right, I've changed the Legend slightly as I didn't think it totally encompassed some of the contact we've had. MV has now changed to MC and has been re-defined.

I've also downgraded Brian Price from V to MC as the visit could not take place due to logistical problems. We have spoken to him though. All per Chris Price.....

Brace isn't an issue. The "new" base defense is a 4-2-Nickel. Brace has enough bull-rush to flatten the pocket, and he might be up to more after the off-season program.

I pretty much agree on the 4-2 nickel, but how does that make Brace not an issue in regards drafting a Dan Williams or Cam Thomas?

Just doing some digging, and it seems Murphy actually had a PW.

NE currently has Wilfork, Pryor, Brace, and Grady who would fall into the interior DL grouping, Brace & Grady are still PSquad eligible: if NE drafted Williams or Price they would be competing with all three "junior" DL for the slot alongside Wilfork in a 40 front.

As long as you are expecting to be in a 40 front most of the game, and rushing the passer a lot, you are going to need a regular rotation for those big men; which sets a minimum of four interior bodies on the 53 (with at least one on the PSquad).

Warren and Wright and Richard can fill in, but they are going to be the primary "big" options on the edge. It looks to me as if NE is narrowing things down to Williams or Price inside. Cam Thomas and the later kids are alternatives or depth competition considerations.

Yes, BB worked out Pierre-Paul and Kion Wilson, and I'd expect he did Murphy while he was in the area.

Where do you fit Damione Lewis in?

He's obviously part of that - thanks for the reminder - but he's also 32. Brace and Grady are going to get a chance to prove themselves in Training Camp, perhaps Brace wasn't adjusting to 0-tech as well as he could. It looks to me like BB and his defensive gurus made a decision to revamp the defense, they took the results of the post-season analysis and started writing new concepts for the D, then plugged it into the available talent pool.

Dan Williams and Brian Price getting invites to Gillette came out about the same time Lewis would have been contacted. Cam would fit at 3-4 NT or DE with his length, most of the later round projections are similar (Woods, Peters, Weston) or pluggers who fit a Pryor-like profile.

Should Murphy's not be MC, PW (Belichick) then?
