As the announcers pointed out a few weeks ago in the DEN/CIN game, some of that 0-6 (previously) postseason failure has been a bit overblown, though. In many of those games, they were expected to lose and were already playing on borrowed time.

How do you think the continual refrain of "playing on borrowed time" would work here in this area of everything is scrutinized and magnified by the media????

It might work in Cincinnati where there seems to be some contentment of having almost won, but here where the culture is completely different.

If Patricia leaves then then next D Coordinator will be someone we know and is familiar with this system..Pepper??

I'm just not a big believer in firing a coach to fire him. In this case, I believe that Lewis should be judged on whether or not he has improved his team and continued to move forward. I think the current version of the Bengals is the best we've seen since Lewis has been there, or at least one could argue that the past 2-3 years have had them as a very solid competitor.

I couldn't care less about the previous 6 losses, because his team was a joke in most of them, and all of them had different circumstances, like the one tonight. Now, if Pittsburgh had come out and won a 33-7 game, I'd probably agree a bit more, but even then the loss of Dalton would have to be taken into account.
If your goal is to have some nice regular seasons and be able to make excuses and rationalize embarrassment in the post season the Lewis us your guy.
If you goal is post season success he has thoroughly proven he should be fired at once.
Many people felt he should have been fired last year.

In many of those games, they were expected to lose and were already playing on borrowed time. The Bengals of late have been a different team. They've actually proven to be a real contender on some level. No longer are they simply competing for a wild card spot with a 9-7 or 10-6 record. Now they're winning the division and competing for a bye.

way.
That just isn't true.
They were home for 4 of the 7 losses.
The road losses were to Houston twice, one when they got blown out by tj Yates and last year to colts when they were very arguably the better team.
There are no impossible games in there. What game were the "expected to lose"? Were they even a 7 point underdog in a single one of them?
You got fed an excuse by the announcers who were just wrong.

I'm not a believer in firing the coach either but that team acted like a bunch of undisciplined childish punks.

He has no control over his team/players or coaches. It's sad but he has to go.

Not to steal the thunder from the gameday thread, but I was wondering if people would be open to Lewis -- aka the coach who could not keep his players from self-destructing -- being one of our assistant's next year if he were interested.

Is it bad karma to hire the coach that is decent with schemes but bad with people? Maybe he is still the Bungles head coach next season, but never too early to start this conversation.

ps. I'm lazy at almost 1am and am just recycling my message about Coughlin. Call it parody or something.
don't need any curses back to Boston Sports...

PS. As Shank said about Buckner in 86... last night is SCIENTIFIC PROOF of the Bengals curse.

Can they go after Gruden. BB doesn't let his assistants talk to the media, and that way I won't have to listen to him in broadcasts anymore.
Gruden is entertaining, I cant stand that know-it-all Nantz

Not just no....

I haven't seen any criticism of what I consider Lewis's worst mistake, the play call on the two point conversion.
You're up 16-15 going for two to make it a FG difference, which is fine. BUT with the new rules if the defensive team returns the football for a score, they get two points which would have given the Steelers the lead (17-16). What does Lewis call, a screen lateral that gets blown up. At least if it's a forward pass, it is blown dead if dropped. Here, there is nothing but daylight if he fumbles...

Hire all the coaches.

Sign all the players.

We can't lose!

They mentioned it during the game.

Lewis doesn't call the plays.

I think a strong argument could be made that Pepper should've gotten the job, but the rumor is that it would be our LB coach. I forget what his name is, but I could've told you 5 minutes ago. That rumor is per Mike Reiss.

I could see him as our o line coach. His leadership skills alone would lead them to push the opposing players....you know.... block.
