Keep expectations for Maye in 2025 realistic

If Diggs is actually going to miss the 1st 4 games on PUP.. 4k yards would certainly be impressive with that WR group.
Why would Diggs miss the first 4 games on PUP? That would mean he isn’t ready to practice all camp.

No more than two concussions, and four games missed.

Less than 12 INTs

1 - lis franc
1 - tommy john, but Maye comes back southpaw.
1- bout of salmonella poisoning via bad baloney that Kraft got a good deal on.

Hoping TreVeyon Henderson brings back some of that yards from scrimmage juju we've been lacking... a few rb option passes should help boost the overall passing game...
The 49ers 2025 2nd round pick just signed and the log jam of NFL 2nd rounders are expected to follow suite.

there was a report that just suggested Diggs is not going to be ready to start wk 1 - who knows if it's legit?
If so, I'd like to see: Bourne, Pop, Boutte, Hollins, Williams, Chism be the corp.
(And Polk or FA/trade be the 6th if Chism can be hidden on PS)

He seems very much on track to be ready to go.

I'd deal Chism for a #1.

Right @signbabybrady ?

Definitely can't risk exposing to PS. And first Rd pick would probably do it for me lol.

4,000 yards a pipe dream?

Take out Chargers debacle he had 9 full games, average yards per game(234.88) spread over 17 games for those 9 equals right at 4,000 yards (3,993).

You think he'll be worse this year than last year?

He already showed he can throw for an average per game the equates to 4,000 yards with a below average OC and worse skill players and line so barring injury or sitting the last game he should be over 4,000 yards and everyone should be expecting that.

I'm hoping for a more balanced approach as teams have become very good at defending the pass.

If we got 3600 yards while having a very effective run game, I'll be happy as hell.

I'm not saying Maye can't get 4000. I'm just not expecting it. I'm expecting a balanced game and Maye to have as few INTs as possible while finding wins in the RZ when the defense clogs the line to stop the run, daring him to throw in high pressure situations.

Forget about a specific yardage number. Here are a few of the things I'm hoping for this season from Maye. I want him to be ranked in the top 15 of QB's in most ranking categories. That would be a fair target.

Remember he IS going into a new offensive system with a brand new OL that will have little experience playing together. Continuity is an underrated factor in successful OL play. So while we all have grandiose expectations for Maye he DOES have a number of obstacles he has to overcome.

There are a few other things I want to see improve. I want to see his ball handling and fakes be more compelling. Ballhandling used to be an art form, with the great ones almost like magicians making the ball appear and disappear at will. In today's game, it has become almost like an afterthought with QB and RB never really meshing because the QB wants to get into his reads more than he wants to carry out a good fake. Of course a lot of this is on Josh. He needs to make good ball handling a priority and DEMAND his QB's to fully carry out all fakes, and stop these merely cursory pretend fakes we see all the time, just going through the motions. (kind of a pet peeve of mine)

Finally, since another pet peeve of mind is the critical nature of a team's TO ratio to the wins and losses; I want to see Maye's pick to TD ratio be at LEAST 2:1.

That's it... for now.

No Eft'n way!

Our offense last year….

but what do I gain by having low expectations?
It’s much better to be hopeful than depressed.
The results aren’t going to be any different whether I expect a SB or 0-17 so why wouldn’t I enjoy the off season by being hopeful and optimistic?

Dang, I'm surprised by how few hit 4,000 yards. I assumed that it was pretty "easy." Too many years of TB12 I guess. Still think Maye will do it!

Josh McDaniels is a pretty good OC. He got Mac Jones to 3800 yards. Maye is 200 yards better than Mac.

Not saying it will happen, there are a ton of new pieces, but I don’t think it’s a completely unrealistic goal

I expect an improved offense thus more total yards per game.
They were 31st in the league last year overall. Getting to 15th alone adds 40 more yards per game.

They were 13th in rushing yards per game last year but if Maye kept his pace and played 17 games, they'd been 9th in the league. Adding 40 yards of rushing per game puts them at 3rd best in the league which still leaves 4,000 yards for Maye. That's assuming they become a ridiculously high % running team which Mcdaniels has never been.

2024 Patriots were 45% rush, 55% pass.
Mcdaniels has historically been higher pass to run ratio than that, 58% pass and 42% run with 2022 Raiders for example

I don't see where teams have gotten any better defending the pass, teams that win the passer differential still win a very high % of games. Passing still wins. League Passer Rating in 2014 was 92.7, in 2024 it's 92.3, virtually the same.

Maye will be their best player, I expect pass/run splits to reflect that.

Some of you act like it’s still 1983 and passing for 4,000 yards is some historic feat.

4000/17=235 per game. It’s more about whether he plays 17 games. If he does, I can’t imagine him not breaking 4000.

Average game: 20 for 30, 235 yards, which is 7.6 yards per attempt and 11.7 yds per completion = 4000 yards
