This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

All anyone needs to know about the Jets is that a few years ago jetefans in this forum were talking about tanking to get Hackenberg and he would lead them to success. Now the JETES have Hackenberg and they are going to tank to get Darnold, who will lead them to success, and on and on and on it goes.........

Virgin meet volcano............,.

No way was anyone saying the Jets should tank for Hack.

I'd ask you to prove it by finding even one post where a Jet fan said that here, but I don't want to have you waste your time. There's no way it happened.

If Hack is any good, you'll see a quick turnaround. Jet fans will be looking to win as much as possible.

Likely? No. But still some hope for the Jets Suck thread to be somewhat meaningful this year.

Sorry, but the J-E-T-E-S SUCK Thread never fails to disappoint. 48 years without a trip to the Super Bowl breeds a special caliber of SUCK that few can possibly match. Granted Woody Johnson has come a long way since the cameo where he played the banjo on the porch in Deliverance but he still can't run a pro football team.

Maybe they should change their brand, the New Jersey Johnson's may be the answer.

Why do you assume Quackenbush will get meaningful playing time with McClown on the roster? Either way, your idea of a "quick turnaround" is moot considering the (non) supporting cast.

I'm not assuming he gets playing time. Though I think he will.

I'm pretty sure Petty sucks. Hope I'm wrong, but there's no evidence to the contrary at the moment.

McCown is a place/hand holder. He may start most games, but that'll only be if Hack and Petty both fail miserably.

Reports seem to suggest Hack either starting week 1 or within the first half of the season.

Regarding the rest of the team, we disagree. It certainly could be better, but it's not a bad supporting cast short of a WR1.

Oline, probably average.
RBs: fine.
TEs: ??? ASJ is talking a good game but we'll see.
WRs: PROBLEM... Quincy is damn good, but that's it. Missing a WR1. Bunch of young guys though.

Dline: No worries
LBs: fine. Young but should be decent.
DBs: Two top rookie Safeties who will have growing pains for sure, but the addition of those 2 and Claiborne should give us a nice secondary as well.

Basically if Hack is worthy, there's no reason to purposely lose. We won't do much because a lack of weapons but they can be an average team if Hack is good.

EVERYTHING I've read says McClown will be the Jete starting quarterback. The only way you're going to learn anything about Quackenbush is if he starts multiple games, which looks unlikely unless McClown gets injured. What makes you think Bowles won't do everything he can to win games and keep his job? That would mean starting McClown.

Nothing I've read has suggested McCown is here to be the "strarter". Again, he may play most games, but only if the other two fail. He's here to be a veteran who can help field a football team if needed while being decent enough to help the team develop. Like a glorified Scout team QB.

I actually think Bowles is safe or it has already been decided he's fired after this year. He either knows he'll be back in 2018 so long as he helps the youngin's develop. Or Woody told him he'll get to coach one more year if he deals with a losing season.

I mean everyone knows the Jets front office is saving money and not trying to win this year. The only way Bowles can hurt himself this season is if he wins 6+ games with McCown. Because that's the only possible bad outcome. Avoid that and he'll have done a good job.

This is insanity.

This is the JETE.
And only a Jete fan would consider winning as many games as possible with the best quarterback on the roster a "bad outcome" to be avoided.

I feel as though you're purposely acting naive. It's really not that hard to understand.

I understand you have rationalized yourself into a truly bizarre position of WANTING your team to lose based on the fantasy that it will pay "dividends" no surer than rolling dice at a craps table. This is pure idiocy. The ONLY thing that begets winning in the NFL is building a winning-oriented team culture, and you don't do that by losing.

There is virtually no chance of this.

If the Jetes are indeed tanking, Hackenburg will start week 1, and you can look forward to a 2-14 campaign, and a new coach.

A legit lol. Simple, and straight to the point. A point I can't currently argue against.

Nicely done.

I think it's important to remember players don't tank. For many reasons, including their own career and earning potential. Not to mention the drive to excel that it takes to become a pro athlete.

It's the front office that has already tanked. They built the team to tank. Or in other words, they built the team to succeed in attaining their goal.

That goal being LOSING, for years to come. What a crap franchise. You deserve every minute of it.

Like I said to Tune, I don't think a 2 win season necessarily means Bowles is fired. No one can expect this team to do well now.

If Bowles can develop the young players (oline, LBs, DBs...) and enter 2018 with a solid team only lacking a few key pieces to be filled via the draft and $90mil... I think he'll be back in 2018.

Now if he scrapes together enough wins to ruin our draft pick with a useless veteran at QB, then I'll be the first to kick him to the curb.

Maccagnan seems to have removed any chance of winning though. I mean he gave away all of our veteran leadership and some of our best players. He's making sure Bowles can't win.

This isn't the NBA. Or are you just being intentionally naive?

Seems like a real losing attitude/culture all around. Classic Jete mentality: "We can't win, so let's find a way to rationalize losing and sell it as part of a grand plan. That way we can still collect on PSLs." Pathetic. Prepare yourself for more years of losing. A half-century without a title is assured!

What you see as losing, I see as avoiding an endless loop of mediocrity.

It's the current state of the game. Without a good QB, at best you're average. You can draft well and max out your spending. Without a solid QB, you're not going anywhere and will find yourself getting 6 to 9 wins every year.

You can choose to be a fool and continue that process, or "rebuild" correctly, while trying to nab a franchise QB.

Hey, I'd prefer the old school rules of the NFL, when a team with a good/violent defense and running game could compete with the flashy/soft passing attacks. But that's not how things are nowadays.

Accepting that as the state of the game, as a fan I would much rather see a 2 or 3 win season with young guys developing and making progress vs expensive veterans scratching out enough wins to guarantee the same for the following season.

The game is how it is. Play the hand you're dealt.

Once Brady retires, you'll see what it's like.
