Incognito suspended indefinitely by Dolphins

Stop... You went on comparing it to the Patriots and denigrating it because players are defending a fellow player against charges of racism. That's about as ridiculous as it gets.

It was the right think to do morally, I agree with you absolutely on that one. But going against your organisation like that? They were surely all told that they need to shut up about this. Even if it's wrong, they simply can't do it THAT way.

Of course it was the right thing to do to help their former teammate, but the execution was questionable in my opinion.

I'm not sure why many of you seem to think its a big deal (and possibly malicious) that Martin kept voice mails from months ago. If this was early 00's I could understand it as back then voice mail had tapes that filled up and you had to erase the messages before more could be stored.

However most people now have smart phones which can store thousands of vmails without making a dent in the memory. I myself have voice mails from when the iPhone first came out way back in 2007. I've just not been bothered to delete them as there hasn't been any need to delete them.

There's a picture of Martin and Incognito together on Bourbon St. the night before the Saints game. That voicemail was from April.

And in the span of an hour and a half, Jon Martin's credibility has just been totally annihilated. This is why you, hold on...

THIS IS WHY YOU WAIT FOR MORE DETAILS TO EMERGE.

That's what Andy Johnson has been sayin (in 500 of his posts in this thread) he is a wait and see ok???

Any NFL team suspending someone has to give a reason for it.

So they had to make one up?

I'm sorry, Kontra, that's not OK if this guy didn't do anything wrong. That would be making up a lie and putting it out there to the public. If they did that, then that front office deserves to be screwed.

By inserting the words "conduct detrimental to the team" and following it up with verbage about treating others with mutual repsect in the lockerroom, the franchise publicly pointed a finger at Incognito.

They easily could have stated that they were suspending him while they further investigate the allegations. Instead they stated that he, in fact, DID committ actions detrimental to the team.

The Dolphins suspended him Sunday night after seeing the voicemail and other evidence. Their official statement to the press was that he was suspended indefinitely for committing actions "detrimental to the team".

That is a fact.

The first line of their official statement: “The Miami Dolphins have suspended Richie Incognito for conduct detrimental to the team."

Instead of the last 5 words, why didn't they write "in order to give time to further investigate these allegations"?

If that carefully worded official statement to the public is a lie, then alot of executive heads are going to roll.

This also may be the motivation for the Dolphins players to speak up in unison now. They may see view whole thing as a set up by their front office.

I would just like to thank the Dolphins organization, Jonathan Martin, and Richard Incognito for making the bye week a lot more enjoyable! Only thing that would have made it even more enjoyable was if it was the Jets.

In my experience, you don't suspend people whilst you're gathering intelligence to establish their guilt or innocence. You send them on a paid leave of absence.

Perhaps the fault is with the Dolphins for using the term suspension or they simply know more than we do?

Kinda what I meant too. I was more focusing on the lack of leadership in the Organisation but that was also a part of my thinking and that's why I compared it to the Hernandez case.

The Patriots waited a few weeks and got their FACTS straight, then cut him IMMEDIATELY and tried to do their best with the Jersey swap thing. The players weren't allowed to talk about it and that's how a bad case was handled rather good.

The Dolphins as Organisation couldn't take the pressure and wait for facts and simply suspended him for conduct detrimental to the team. Not any mention of allegations or anything, pointing him out as the bad guy. If the Dolphins would've choosen their wording more carefully and simply let him be supsended instead of cutting him without enough information about the case, this whole mess would've been far more easier to deal with.

Now the players thought they had to protect their former teammate against the accusations of being racist BECAUSE the Dolphins weren't able to give this man a fair chance to show his side of the events. The Dolphins handled this simply piss poor and that the players felt the need to speak against their own employer just speak volumes how messed up this whole situation is, and how easily it could've been dealt with. Just suspend him, issue a statement were you show this facts and most will think that whole wasn't as bad as it first sound. Now, the Dolphins look bad, their locker room went against their own franchise and they lost half of their offensive line.

Well done!

he is black guys it's all good

Well, I've spoken to multiple people today about this and the explanation from all of them is that in the Dolphins locker room, Richie Incognito was considered a black guy. He was accepted by the black players. He was an honorary black man.

And Jonathan Martin, who is bi-racial, was not. Indeed, Martin was considered less black than Incognito.

"Richie is honarary," one player who left the Dolphins this offseason told me today. "I don't expect you to understand because you're not black. But being a black guy, being a brother is more than just about skin color. It's about how you carry yourself. How you play. Where you come from. What you've experienced. A lot of things."

Now it all makes sense, he's a black man Incognito...

Hartline says the Dolphins ordered the players not to comment Monday but that they all decided to let loose and "defend ourselves" today.

Dolphins OL Tyson Clabo: Martin "needs to stand up and be a man. I don't know why he's doing this."

Hartline insists that Incognito isn't a racist. Labels the question ridiculous and says he doesn't even understand it.

Tyson Clabo: "Everybody's trying to make Richie out to be a racist psychopath, and nothing could be farther from the truth

Tannehill: "They were like brothers, and [RI] was the first one there to have [JM]'s back in any situation. Big surprise what’s going on."

I think the second quote is the most important one. If Martin was somewhat sheltered with his experiences then going into a locker room full of those kinds of meathead personalities would have been an extreme culture shock. Some people, mentally, aren't equipped to handle that while some people are.

Culture shock can be disorienting. I was a freshman college boy HS grad from the sheltered burbs who got a summer job in the big city working high rise construction with union laborers and native american (Indian in those days) steel worker beam walkers. Took me a few weeks to hit the grove. Great summer job that paid a whopping $3/HR. I was rich.

Jumped it, this thread has.

This is the most bizarre thing I've ever read. My head just exploded.

I'm trying to figure it out also.

So, an obvious white RI, even though he calls blacks the N-word, isn't a bigot and a racist because he's been accepted as black.

"The Dolphins have suspended Incognito for conduct detrimental".

Translation: Dear members of the media and those of the righteous general public, we join you in disingenuously revving up our moral outrage for behavior the mob deems improper as well as the outrage of racism that you frequently see in every third word spoken. We are completely on board with being forced to find and purge! all such rush to judgment and frequently drummed up outrages. So starting immediately, after careful and well studied consideration of what we think the media/mob believes we should do, the Miami Dolphins organization has decided to <<insert name of sacrificial lamb>> to show we are the good guys just like you!"

Is the whole process of being outraged so visceral that many people can't help themselves/their knee jerk reactions? Where "haven't I seen this movie before? It's the one where the ending isn't what it appeared to be at first sight " is never a thought........

Yes...... This is not a first, or anything.
