If the Pats trade Garappolo for Cleveland's #12 overall, who do you pick ?

C'mon Scott. a WR that high (or at least high for the Pats)?????? Haven't you learned ANYTHING over the last 17 years.????????? No, look at what's available among the pass rushing DE's, DT's or OLB's. There's even an outside chance for a CB, because that class is supposed to be talented and deep this season. Maybe he falls in love with one of them.

As for OJ Howard, Gronk is coming back and is under contract for the next 3 seasons. He also has played in 80% of the possible regular season games, so, while injury is a worry for every player, if Gronk gets to play in 80% of games the next 3 years, I'll take that. ans so would everyone else. It would mean the Pats were getting a lot of wins in those years.

BB doesn't value rushing DEs either (as in pass rush specialist). You need to be balanced for him to like you and even then he tends not to take DEs too high.

Foster's a great talent, but does his concussion history scare anyone?

I'd feel bad if we took Howard at 12 (not that I think we will get this pick) if only because all the mock drafts have him going either to us at #32 or just before us.

#12 sounds like the kind of pick we trade for something like #19, a second, and a fifth.

Rueben Foster
Johnathan Allen
Taco Charlton
Malik McDowell
Myles Garrett
Solomon Thomas

...basically Front 7 first

For me the #12 pick could be a really tricky spot. There is a chance one of the top tier players could fall and I would jump at the opportunity to take them. But there is also the chance that the top tier guys are all gone and the best value would be to trade down.

The clear top tier for me (accounting for position) is:
1. Myles Garrett- Texas A&M
2. Jonathan Allen- Alabama
3a. Jamal Adams- LSU
3b. Reuben Foster- Alabama
5. Solomon Thomas- Stanford
6. Malik Hooker- OSU

If any of these guys are there at 12 I run the card up, especially Adams and Foster who I love.

I didn't include Hooker/Allen/Garrett/Adams in my post just cause i didn't think they would be there at 12.

As far as Taco Charlton, Malik McDowell, Reuben Foster, Solomon Thomas and Derek Barnett...

I see Charlton/Barnett/Thomas as very close value. Thomas seems to be ahead of the other 2 but if trading down means we can get one of the others I am A-okay with that.

McDowell and Foster are interest but when I look at McCowell I don't see Atkins or Donald which is what I'd want to see to take a pass rush DT that high and I think a really good DE you can move inside on pass downs would be a good choice.

Foster IMO is the only guy I see that has the combination of "could be there" and "huge separation from the next guy" as well as "Big time need and value".

That is why he is my lock in if he falls to 12 pick him guy.

Fournette would be great but I think he would require #3 from Chicago to jump ahead of the Jets, Jags and Panthers.

(a big IF thread . so just a look from critical LB position standpoint)

Id love Foster. (since Allen is not falling and Hooker unlikely). And Id be tempted to take him because there are only two great LBs available in this draft and both might be gone by #15. There's a big quality drop at the position after them (arguably biggest drop of all positions). And I see it as a need with Collins gone, High long-term ? and Van Noy signed only through 2017 plus certain lack of speed, coverage and lateral range at the position as it is.

But let's say you can trade down to around #20 and Cunningham could still be there (although some have him even over Foster lately) then the math simply wins over:

Foster < Cunningham + (one of f.e.) Brantley/Baker/Q Wilson... (at #50)

It also gives you a lot of leverage on #32 pick (Taco, McCaffrey, OT..).

if Cunningham is not there anymore and LB is your need you have to ask yourself if:

Foster + Harris (f.e.) > or < OJ Howard + J Davis + Brantley (f.e.) (#20+#32+#50)
....> or < C Davis + Reddick + Baker/Q Wilson
....> or < Barnett + McCaffrey + McMillan

just some examples not suggestions

Not interested in Browns 12th pick. Only their 1st or 49ers, Bears pick. And definitely don't want to trade to mid late 1st and 2nd round(really....some bad memories of 2nd rd picks) I want "stud " player ready to start. Assuming we keep DH,
BTW what would Pats have to pay 1st 1st round pick ?

I trade down. Some for this year, some for next. Unless Foster is still on the board.
100%. Commit to their usual MO and keep trading back and trading assets into the future. Those lower picks also provide more cap flexibility and distributes the draft risk.

Solomon Thomas if he's still on the board.

COREY DAVIS BABY! Im not usually a WR guy, im usually against it. But this dude is gonna be something really special. And he is the PERFECT fit for the patriots.

Trading a future franchise QB for one player (that is not a QB) is bad business.

BB should try to get a 4th also on the trade and trade down the 1st round pick acquired via this trade.

We are loaded at WR. Well, not in the traditional sense but we have Hogan and Mitchell for multiple years. Floyd and dola as options and Jules. We might go after a project WR but not in the 1st.

We need a tackle badly. And a DE. Then LB and DB and RB.

Priority should be protecting brady.

why do we need a tackle badly? I could understand getting one in the middle rounds or possibly the second as a backup or eventual solder replacement if we plan to let him walk but Solder and Cannon are good starting tackles that do not need to be replaced.

Also a lot depends on Davis' showing at the combine, especially in the all important 3 cone drill. Need the quickness (not necessarily straight line speed) in this offense. Davis is not only a freakish talent, he is a player very highly thought of by his coaches (I believe he's a captain), they say nobody works as hard as him. And has also overcome a lot in his youth.

A look at his talent.

Im pretty sure Davis isnt running in the combine, he has an injury. Im still hoping we draft him he is gonna be such a great receiver. I could see him being a top 5 WR in the league and a potential future HOFer.

Solder's contract is up after next season. He has a clause that we cannot use the franchise tag. His play this year was ok. Cannon performed better. But if we have #12 and there's a stud OT, we should draft that guy because the dropoff after Solder and Cannon is drastic. Also, I don't know how long Scar will be around for. So better coach some rookies now.

For the war room?

I still take BB (with Ernie Adams in his ear)

If Corey Davis does last to 12...tempting

No. He just takes you 6th or 13th..
