I’m coming around to not naming Mayo DC

Mayo may well get a HC job but I really doubt it will be Denver this year. Mostly because the risk of trying a 1st time HC immediately after you just had one fail spectacularly in Hackett is just too great.

I bet they go with a second(or more) time HC.

My bet they go with an offensive guy in the hopes of helping Wilson.

C'mon....do you really think that Kraft would hire Patricia in that role?

While BB has dominion over all football related decisions, that ends at the HC job.

It's a good line, but if this would happen to be BB's last hurrah (with the Patriots...there is no reason he couldn't go all Phil Jackson and slip into a "ready to win" position like Brady did...example Dallas anyone? Maybe the Chargers?) he's NOT picking his successor.

He MIGHT have input, but that's likely about it.

I was responding to the post that said Mayo would want to move elsewhere to get an official DC title if he can't get it here to be able to get that HC position. My point is that Flores didn't have to do it. However, there is the notable difference that nextsupe mentioned in that it Stevia is the play caller, which is valid.

I appreciate that there are only 32 of these jobs, but I’d pass on Denver as a first time candidate. That situation with Wilson seems like it will be hard to turn into a winner. If you think you will get your chance somewhere else, better to wait for the right situation. It seems like a great job for some like Darrell Bevell, a career coordinator who is a little older and has only gotten a shot as an interim coach (but has done so a couple of times).

Seems Mayo is just promoting himself to potential suitors. Not sure I like him implying he deserves most or all the credit though. Unless it's 100% true. Which... it could be, but we just don't know anything about it. Hard to judge.

He owns the team which means he will inherit it. So that is a succession plan for the only one that will get the team. Merit has nothing to do with it.

Being a coach (employee) is supposed to come through merit and not because you are the son of another employee.

I still don't understand why we think Mayo would be the next great coach. Not saying he couldn't be, but! Who knows how much responsibility he has for the defense. If you don't give Steve credit, why would you give Mayo credit?

Josh should hire Steve for the Raiders DC. Get him away from BB and maybe he would get some credit on his own. Then you can have Mayo as DC.

He seems to be in big demand by other teams, so there has to be something they see besides solely the "Rooney Rule"..
He is also a home grown talent, who knows the culture and expectations.. if not Mayo who then??
Certainly not Patricia or Judge...

But both are nepotism - Kraft has three sons so I assume Jonathan gets the defining role due to perceived merit - the other sons might disagree with you. Defining "inherited nepotism" versus "employee nepotism" means you could define it any way you wish.

Because blacks were discriminated against in the past may or may not mean whites should be discriminated against in the future.

I do not necessarily disagree with you. I am sympathetic to your views, but you might think everything through a bit more.

It's not just Mayo saying it. Other reporting has been noting this for some time.

And it's not all down to racism or sexism either. It is human nature for people to hire people that look like them or they like - and the liking part usually comes from interacting with them first and we tend to interact with people that look like us or we have things in common with.

The point of diversity is to promote inclusion and not move discrimination from one people to another like some people like to claim.

His argument is that racial discrimination is fine if it is intended to serve an end of which he approves. Your argument, with which I agree, is that racial discrimination is always wrong. Any implication that affirmative action is not a form and use of racial discrimnation is not "emotional": it is simply dishonest, and counterfactual. Ahmed, if you approve of racial discrimination under certain conditions, why not have the courage and honesty to say so.
