So wait, some of us are spoiled brats because we wanted the team to beat the Jets to advance to the Championship round and then got pissed off when the team laid a big, stinking egg on the 50 yard line? I guess I'm spoiled. Yeah, it's cool that they won three Super Bowls and went to four. I'm proud of them for that.

1. But this team has the talent to win now.
2. They have a quarterback who can win now.
3. They went 14-2.
4. They locked up the top seed in the playoffs.
5. They beat every playoff team save for one.
6. They beat the team they played yesterday 45-3 barely a month ago.

With all of those factors being considered, I'm not sure how being disappointed, even angry, can characterize you as spoiled. As a matter of fact, I would consider that stance a copout.
You're firing on all cylinders atm Kontra.

Now maybe we should expect a SB win every year. We are so different from the other 31 team fans that we deserve all of the wins and should not accept as fan anything less. When we don't get what we want we should ask the questions if TFB is a choker, or has BB lost it, or is Bob Kraft way too cheap.

I do believe the Patriots fans expectations are at a much higher bar than ours, but they are not spoiled. Its probably a combination of culture, and life experience.

Our culture is a little laid back, we tend to believe someone until they prove themselves wrong. We may banter about paytons decisions, but we also realize everyone of us would look like ,the fool in the room, talking football with sean. Everyone makes mistakes, so we are more likely to let those go and look to the positive. I think most of us were more happy that the boys made it that far 2x, than losing to a bad team, like Seattle, as long as they learn from it and it dosnt become a pattern. Plus we understand the realities of the game, you just cant lose that many key players and expect to much.

Not sure about the culture of N.E.

Our life experience in football was pretty bleak, so we see improvement. We are much more encouraged with what we see than angry at losing. I think were more apt to enjoy the time we have with Brees and being competitive than worrying about our future.

N.E. had a history same as ours, but that has long sense gone. Your pretty used to being talked about threw out the season. BB is pretty brilliant, and TB has amazing skill. 3 rings later Im sure its easy to forget the lull between championships, or past failures.
You expect more because your leadership has continually shown, it can deliver more, consistently. This year, for example, 14-2 with a young team and 1st seed. Pretty amazing considering , if you are using our offensive scheme, its pretty difficult to master with rookies. Your teams consistency is astounding at making the playoffs and winning rings.

It's not being spoiled, in our opinion, its just being a fan and having different expectations and cultures. Everyone gets disappointed , but you might be falling farther and harder than most. Because you have seen more than any of us has experienced. We just try to learn the lesson, and move on. um with a c@cktail or 2

No they don't.

I hate to do this but did you really thing the pats could win the superbowl with that defense? Sooner or later it would have cost them.

Were people watching the same game I was watching yesterday? How can you attribute that loss to the defense?

Great post! NE has a long history of whining and second guessing thanks to the culture of the baseball team up here.

Because NE comprises of 6 states 4 of which are firmly Patriot fans and 2 being split, there is a difference in outlook depending on the area. Eastern and Central Ma and RI are more like I was talking about above.

1 was set up by the muffed snap. The last might have allowed to happen, if there was any chance of a comeback, otherwise the Jets run out the clock right there.
Only down seven to three in the second quarter that was just a bad play call especially since the New England Patriots were at their own 38 yard line with 1:14 left in the quarter.

Spoiled? Not really. But when you lock up the #1 seed and finish 14-2 after beating every playoff team you play..you should at least win the first playoff game...if that makes me spoiled..then yes i am..this team had the talent to win this years..instead they threw it all away...yet again

are pats fans spoiled because they are upset over the team losing?

Of course all Pats fans are unhappy. What bothers me is the extreme criticism, in fact the NEED to rip whoever you cant find to rip.
The worst, IMO, are the comments that question the effort, desire, commitment etc of the players. These posters imply that the players didn't care as much about winning as the fans watching the game did, as if the fans had more at stake. I imagine if you read this board you can see how, since some fans seem to tie their identity to the greatness they possess by happening to be a fan of a team that wins, and my God how great they are if they picked the most mentally tough team too!!

Someone posted earlier in another thread that they could see in Bradys eyes that he wasnt really into it. Come on.
Also, the overreaction of one game meaning the legacy of a career is rewritten is silly.

Worst though are the fans that get up in arms over the Jets trash talking and disrespecting the Patriots, then go on to disrespect their own team even worse.

Seems like people ought to have at least a day or so to vent. I had six voicemails/texts come in last night from instant Jets fans, that all by itself was tough to take.

Well said.

I think you see it more here because of both the affluence and elitist mentality coupled with the tortured baseball history in New England. We got lots of young guns with rich daddies posting here... Their life expectations overall are elevated, not just about this team... And most of them are decendents of a group that remains well represented in the region, the longsuffering fellowship of the miserable which is continually goaded on by a self appointed elitist media not to cave to short term success and demand more for themselves and their entitled offspring. A media I might add who oddly would be increasingly unemployed or working in some nether region or industry if not for the relatively recent competitiveness of the local sports teams...

All Patriots fans are disappointed and most are a little angry, including myself. That is not being a spoiled fan, that's being human.

What is spoiled is blasting TFB, BB, and Kraft for the long term over disappointing loss. I wouldn't want a different coach, owner, or QB going forward with this young team, getting back some of the injured players, and having 6 picks of the top 100 in this draft.

1. I haven't seen anyone blast Kraft yet.
2. I wouldn't want anyone besides Brady at QB either.
3. I wouldn't want another coach besides BB either.
4. Brady and BB should be blasted for their performances yesterday.

If I'm a spoiled fan because I've been doing #4 when they rightfully deserve it, then I guess I'm spoiled. Even worse, in my opinion, are those that thought that Brady played well yesterday and that there were no issues with the gameplan and coaching.

Lamest.poll.ever. "They just want it when they want it [wah!]" Seriously? Does this site allow a Mod to move his own thread to the Practice Squad?

Yes, success tends to spoil you. The Pats have been the most dominant team of the decade. We probably have the best coach and QB in the history of the game.

Still, in terms of "dynasty franchises" we are looking way up at the Steelers, Cowboys, and 49ers. (and yes Lombardies and Super Bowls are what they are, regardless of salary caps, free agency, etc.). There have been at least three years during this run that we honestly should have won the SB and didn't make it, either because we choked (2006, 2007), or because, unbelievably, we came out flat in the biggest game of the year (2007, 2009, and 2010). What sticks in the craw is the fact we are now officially seen as playoff chokers, just like the Colts. Wah

yeah, were spoiled, but the jets had no business winning that game. the pats should probably invest in some big names. obviously their style is working anymore.

i for one just disapointed, this was a great opportunity, and it was so wrong this whole game.. we should be moving on.. But still a fan just was a bit angry with the boys... We should be greatful, and say we had a great season, but the jets just frustrate me... its tough offseason pill to swallow...

Many of us are spoiled and have a skewed expectation on winning SBs. He'll even opposing teams fans talking trash to us would ask "how many SBs have you WON since spygate?" as if not winning a superbowl in 4 years is some devastatingly long streak.

It appears that several posters are reading the thread title and then skipping along posting their outrage about the question asked.

Again I'm as upset about the loss as anyone and I think it was self inflicted by the Patriots. The question asked is about the overreaction by quite a few. "We haven't won anything since 2004" "Brady chokes in playoff games" "the game has passed BB by".

I did not see any of this type of thing when they were winning. I'm bitterly disappointed and upset with the loss. I've listed several things that I'm critical of that the team did in that game.

It's the way many fans are reacting to it makes me ask if many in our fan base are spoiled brats.

I think it's cliche and easy to say Pats fans are spoiled.

The reality is that our team has had unhappy endings for 5 straight years, and have been in contention for all of those years.

Do fans want another title? Yes. Do fans get bummed when we don't get what we want? Yes.

But we're fans. We have NO control over the outcomes. All we have is our wants and desires.

As a result, when a team is in the mix and doesn't win, it's natural to be disappointed, especially when we've tasted success and know what it's like.

Again, it's easy to mock Pats fans but I see a loyal, passionate, caring fan base.

I think it all depends on your generation. I'm 39. I'd like to think I have a different perspective on the Pats than maybe the ones that grew up with the Brady/BB era or the Tuna/Bledsoe era when SBs and playoffs were the expectation every year.

With that said, it is THIS organization has set that bar. Not only by their performance on the field, but the owner, coach and players. You hear them talk- "Out goal is to win the Super Bowl every year". That is the Patriot's brand. That is what this fan base wants. Personally, I have no problem with it. I want this team to strive for excellence. I remember when this team was satisfied with a winning season back in 80s for goodness sake.

The fact is getting to the playoffs is hard. Winning one or two playoff games is hard. Getting to the Super Bowl is very hard. Winning the Super Bowl is very difficult. Winning 3 in 4 years is a once in a lifetime experience for fans.

For those fans that are going off the deep end over this loss, it's ok to be mad, upset and try to make sense of it all, but the fact is that this team is still a winning organization and will continue to be as such as long as Kraft, BB and TB are there. With that said, the Pats are just like the other 31 teams and their respective histories. You have good years. You have bad years. You have the "shoula 'been a contenda" , years and the "how the hell did this team do so well?" years.

Our expectations are high, but the Pats and us as fans are not better because of them.

This is precisely the reason for the stigma. 5 years. There are 31 other teams and only 1 happy ending. We don't really deserve to be unhappy for 26 more years!

Let me point you to the Vikings fans once more. This year, they lost their starting QB. Lost their secondary QB. Lost their head coach. Lost Randy Moss. Lost a 3rd round draft pick. Lost their division and the wildcard race. Might lose their entire team to LA. Oh, and lost their STADIUM.

And when the call went out for help clearing snow from the TCF stadium, the fans responded.

Approximately 1,000 people gathered outside the stadium at 7:00 a.m. armed with shovels.

Granted, some people came for the money I'm sure. But many didn't. And frankly, there are a lot of easier ways to make 10 bucks an hour than shoveling snow at 7am in frigid temps.

And here they are at the night game ... outside ... in Minnesota. Cheering their 3rd string QB. Adrian Peterson not in the game. Losing 40-14 to the Bears at "home".

With memories of winter games at the old Metropolitan Stadium, Ellen Swanson and tens of thousands of Minnesota Vikings fans bundled up for an unusual and highly anticipated Monday night football game against the rival Chicago Bears, a contest preceded by a driving snowstorm.

"It's not even that cold out here," Swanson said with a laugh outside TCF Bank Stadium a few hours before kick off on the 29th anniversary of the Vikings' last outdoor game.

The temperature at kick off was minus 6°C, with wind. "This is football how it should be," Swanson said.

With my extended family fans of that organization, I am having trouble making the case that I should be upset with my team's performance this year.
