Looking forward to see how this coaching staff incorporates the rookies. I mean yes lots of talent. I just hope we've built the structure to nurture it. Love the draft. Took our poison at 4. Then went on a fun ride

The Athletic's Dane Brugler just ranked the Patriots draft as the best class of this draft...

This is really high praise.

I've been very skeptical about the prospect the team can be "in the hunt for the playoffs this year." Even taking into account that we are all prone to a little flush of unwarranted optimism after the draft (Every draftee/free agent is potentially terrific until they actually have to perform against NFL players,), I'm actually thinking they could at the very least be a genuine pain in the ass to teams which actually are competing for the playoffs. That could be fun to watch, after several years of real disappointment around here.

That's a good point. At a minimum they now have the coaching staff/player ratio way above what BB and Mayo had. For instance they employ 3 OL coaches. With Vrabes as a vet HC and with the coordinators being long time NFL coaches, I think they are in good shape to develop said talent.

Can I give you reason for optimism and less skepticism? The past 5 season our issues were QB and coaching. We've got the QB position right, and got a HC and staff back in NE that has championship pedigree. The team addresses the biggest need at LT, added depth to the OL and depth to other areas of the team. This is a playoff team. Vrabel has been preaching winning the division is the first goal and the players have developed this mentality.

James Foster put together two of my favourite scouting videos in the whole pre-draft process. He's relatively new to the amateur draft scouting game but he really puts the hard work in in evaluating prospects which you can see by how detailed his scouting reports are.

Anyway, he loved our draft.Calls our draft class his favourite "by a comfortable margin". 11:20 in the video.

By the way, he's the guy who put me on to Lan Larison. I'll post his scouting report on Larison in the Larison thread.

Every game late in the year, the broadcasts show the playoff picture. I expect them to be here:

Highly agree. What's different I see already in this team is we have some dam Dawgs on defense.. we haven't had these types of guys since the early 2000s.. they aren't going to let offenses dictate anything.. they will throw the first punch each game. Of course we have to still build the roster in camp.. but I have us finishing ahead of Miami and Jets.. for example.. take away cook from Allen and you hamper that Buffalo offense. Fields scares no one. We finally have a defense that can slow the Dolphins and finally beat tua.

Not even remotely given a real chance under the joke staff last season. Doubt he gets beat out for an UDFA... however I'd love to be wrong though..
They need a blocking TE and he isn't it.

If he makes this roster he'll have to dazzle Josh as a FB

Likely won't be FB.. we signed one, UDFA.. we have a blocking TE already need someone to carry coverage and get downfield at TE opposite Henry. All these guys have clean slates... from last season.. don't want to get rid of misused guys for a hopeful.

We signed one FB as a UFA and invited another. That means nothing except more bodies to throw at the position.

Who is our current blocking TE on the roster?

Hooper. I actually like Bell as recieveing TE.. Hooper is an excellent blocking TE.. I just like to see the unheralded guys growm and have some NFL success.. we need to start doing more with guys that are already on the roster to build back up the farm system like we used to do. Or else we will be chasing each draft year. Just my opinion.

The last 10 years of Belichick’s drafts drove me insane. Often times his UDFA signings were better than his drafts. Granted, there were solid contributors from the 2013-18 drafts that helped the Pats win SBs in 14, 16 & 18, but most of them came prior to 2013.
Yes it’s so nice not having a contrarian run the draft and for us having to defend it. Maybe now our picks won’t be laughed at by other coaches.

Bell would be practice squad. I don't think he will beat the UDFA blocking tight end. As for full ack it might be the other UDFA.

This class gonna have 10+ guys on the 53 man roster.

McDaniel is a fraud. His run as wunderkind is over.

The thing is Hooper is the blocking TE, so unless Josh sets up certain formations I don't see more than 2 TEs on the field. But then again Josh can be multiple we've done it in the past in 2018 with 3 TEs in the red area. I like bell like to see him develop but I'm open to the other guys as well.
