Gilmore for Butler but who takes Ryan's reps?

I must have missed it. I didn't realize Butler was traded.

I wouldn't let him near KRs. That ship has sailed. Let him focus on being a cb first and get his confidence back.

Thats kinda where I am on this as well.

Let him get established as a CB and once that happens sprinkle him in KR/PR when the team is up 49-3 with 2:03 left in the game

2016 Weekly DEFENSIVE SNAP percentages:

Cy Jones:
WK-3 47%
WK-5 27%
... (no significant defensive snaps in the interim)
WK-12 35% apparently took some snaps away from Harmon
WK-13 67% apparently in place of Rowe

Coleman:
WK-1 66%
WK-2 91%
WK-4 40%
WK-7 23%
WK-8 43%
WK-9 63%
... no significant defensive snaps after that (Rowe started with the Pats in WK-6).

Jon Jones:
WK-5 50% (his only significant defensive snaps of the season)

I'd rather just dream that Butler stays and its Gilmore, Butler, Rowe as our top 3. If not, we have Gilmore and Rowe and the Jones' as the nickel/dime backs. It seems like both Jones' are well-suited to play the slot. Maybe another offseason will whip them into shape for it. On the other hand, I see Coleman as camp fodder.

I see Gilmore as a slight upgrade over Malcolm, but Ryan was very good last year. Rowe was playing with him at times so it won't be him. Coleman is toast, Jones is likely a ST only guy, and I refuse to even mention our 2nd rounder from last year because he has been so bad that he hasn't earned mention on this board. So that begs the question, who takes Ryan's snaps? My gut says we bring in a JAG vet and/or draft another rookie in rd 3 looking for a gem. Thoughts?
Why would you dismiss a second round corner because he fumbled when returning punts?

Because he wasn't effective at CB either. I hope he turns it around but the words Chad Jackson give me pause that he will.

People are really hating on Cyrus Jones too much. Give him a chance to redeem himself. He played decent as a CB.

I suspect that we'll see competition for the spot. Rowe vs. Cyrus Jones. The third corner would be J. Jones or C. Jones with C. Jones kicks inside in some nickel packages.

Patriots could also find another corner in the draft URFA

Ok, Cyrus Jones had a few bad games last year. He was undeniably awful in the first Bills game and the Cleveland game (where he got ejected) and the Ravens game speaks for itself. However, he's just a baby and has shown flashes of ability. I'm not ready to write him off just yet.

Logan Ryan didn't look all that great early in his career either.

The Rowester! Not sure why everybody hates him so much I mean geesh give him a chance. He had a good season when he played. Had an excellent super bowl as well. He was primarily on Julio Jones (Ryan was too at times) and Julio only had 4 catches and they were all great contested plays. Rowe could be pretty good. Cyrus will have a chance to compete for the slot w/ Coleman & J. Jones & maybe some future addition.

Plus, Butler is not gone yet. Yes, it is looking like he is likely to go, but say for instance the Saints dont give him what he wants and he realizes the Patriots offer wasnt too shabby all along and resigns. Or maybe the Saints and Patriots dont agree on compensation and Bill decides its best to let Butler play out his deal. Who knows.

Between Cyrus and Jonathan I believe one will emerge as a solid slot CB this year.

I say BB brushes the crap off of Revis.
He has a bounce back year says all the right things and predict we fall in love with him again.
Could see that happening. In other news:

THE SAINTS SIGN...

I'm gonna go with Gilmore because i dont think Butler is going anywhere.

I must have missed it. I didn't realize Butler was traded.
Saints cant give Butler an extension, they only have about 6 million in cap space

That's where I am.

I'm not seeing Gilmore so much as a replacement for Butler straight up. He's quite good in coverage, but from what I've read (I didn't know a lot about him prior to the signing), there are issues with his willingness/ability to tackle, which is one of Butler's clear strengths. It seems he would be best suited as a complementary piece to Butler and vice versa.

Morris Claiborne if he wants to play for a cheaper price.

Eric Rowe will be our number 2 corner
