Ryan Mallet had a million dollar arm and a five cent head
Given that he's still in the league, that seems a bit harsh. Five dollar head, I'd say.

I’m not too worried about that, due to having 5 picks in the top 95 selections. We still have the same number of picks, they’re just better. I’m guessing that he’ll pick up a 5th rounder or something. Who knows?
But the more I've dug into the [QB] class, I'm wondering if it's as deep in the Patriots' eyes as some of the media analysts believe it is, and how that might affect the team's approach.
Jimmy is better than his score shows.
I had no idea who had the #36, and you are right it would make no sense for Indy to trade down UNLESS they were in love with someone they thought wouldn't make to 36.The first problem with Perry's scenario is that Indy owns the #36. Somehow, I can't see them trading with the Pats unless they're sending a bagful of some devastating disease.
The second problem is that the #31 is worth 600 points on the standard value chart. The #36 is worth 540. Throwing in a 3rd & 4th along with the #36 would skew that trade heavily in the Pats' favor. Indy would be giving up the #67 (255) + the #103 (88) plus the #36 - 883 total points - for a max of 612, even with the Pats' highest 6th added (#198 = 12).
I know that a lot of folks believe that the standard value chart is hopelessly out-of-date (it isn't), but it couldn't possibly be off by that much.
Now, if the Pats traded the #31, the #210 (7), AND the #63 (276 points), that would make way more sense mathematically (the Pats trading 883 for 883 from Indy). But, it's still Indy, so highly unlikely.
There are many who disagree with your assessment and think he'll go in the 2nd round. How does lauletta fit what we like in a QB? He has one of the weakest arms I’ve seen in a top QB prospect in the past ten years. Zero zip on his fastball for the short intermediate passes, and he has the worst deep ball in college football.
He makes chad Pennington’s arm strength look like Brett Farve
When people said Lamar Jackson wasn't a fit (even tho he ran EP variations among many other pro reads) I brought up this up. Laulletta would most likely have to run a west coastish type O w/ a heavy ground game. He ran the rpo in college. Think Alex Smith. Even Raiders O from the past few years in terms of safe calculated shots down field. How does lauletta fit what we like in a QB? We’re scheduled to have 3 third round picks next year, one which is obviously our own. (Edit: forgot about the Shelton move—apologies) If picking up a 4th or 5th round pick is that important, (and I’m guessing that you’re right and one is added) then he shouldn’t have any issues doing so.True, but Belichick has shown that he doesn't like that very much.

We also have two 6ths and a 7th rounder, so the real “issue” is adding either a 4th or a 5th. We’ve certainly seen him miss a round here and there, especially with multiples in other rounds. I’m just not seeing what the big deal is. I’d much rather see one of the top 5 picks be moved into next year than to see a top pick moved down in a trade to acquire a mid-late round pick, this year. It would seem like a waste to me, that’s all.
Oh, ****. Why do I keep forgetting that our 3rd is gone next year? My apologies. I’ll edit my post accordingly.BB already traded the Pats' own 2019 3rd-rounder back on March 10th - to Cleveland for Danny Shelton and a 2018 5th-rounder. A week later, that 5th-rounder went to the Raiders for Patterson + a 6th-rounder.
So, the Pats currently have only the two projected comp picks in the 2019 3rd round.
With three picks in a span of 20 slots from #23-#43, BB could make short-distance trade-downs to pick up more 2018 draft ammo and still trade one of those new picks into 2019. I almost expect him to make several moves to generate more picks for both 2018 & 2019 - and possibly even trade one or two picks for NFL players. Pretty much every scenario we can imagine is in play.
Listening to ESPN radio and I think they said they thought New England had a trade worked out with a team - #31 for a current left tackle.
But they did not name the player or the team.

Nah, that’s my bad. It’s now the second time that I’ve forgotten about losing one of the thirds in the Shelton trade, so I didn’t even learn from my mistake the first time.No biggie.
The Pats current 2019 draft picks (subject to change this week) ...
Round-1 ... own pick
Round-2 ... own pick
Round-3 ... two projected comp picks
Round-4 ... own pick
Round-5 ... own pick
Round-6 ... NONE (traded in 2017 to DET for Bademosi)
Round-7 ... own pick + two projected comps

At any rate, I’d like to see the holes addressed with some early top 100 talent, and if a higher pick can be traded into next year to load up again (maybe two 2s and two 3s), then all the better. Missing a mid-late round pick or two isn’t going to stop these next two drafts from being extremely important to the future of our team, so maybe that’s why I’m not as worried about it. As far as Belichick goes, I’m sure that he’d prefer to add a fourth or fifth this year, but I don’t think he’s up losing sleep over it, either. This is the guy who has chosen to draft as little as two positions in an entire draft, trade down our first rounder multiple times, and outright pack up his things and leave for the night. In my opinion, his attention should be loading up in the top few rounds, both this year and next.
As long as Brady is our qb, you can forget about us being a power running team. Outside of the Dillon year in 04, we only favored the run in 08 under Cassel. The offense under Cassel was balanced and pretty good by the end of the year, but as Brady came back in 09 it was immediately scrapped for the pass happy offense we have seen for the last decade.IMO we are moving to a power running team.. will keep Brady upright for another 4 or 5 years with his dink and dunks. There will be no mega trade up. We will take the best run blocking before pass blocking LT with 23 and the best on the board RB with 31, then take the best run blocking Guard with the niner pick, all the other picks will be Defence bar project QB.
Cam Erving from the Chiefs?
For the #31, it seems like the Pats would be receiving a mid-round pick in addition to the player. Perhaps one of KC's two 4th rounders?
