I wrote about this this morning and figured I'd share some of the numbers here for anyone who might not have seen it.

I've been wondering for a while now how much having someone like Diggs has impacted the rest of the receivers. Since I have the snaps and the stats tied into each other, I finally figured out the ability to put something together to look at the stats based on who is on / not on the field, so I ran them on Diggs in both scenarios.

Based on those numbers, the impact of Diggs being out there has obviously made a difference, and the numbers are surprising.

Maye's completion percentage is significantly higher when Diggs is out there vs when he's not, and the receiving numbers are also interesting:

Here's a look at the third down and red zone passing:

Patriots 3rd Down With Diggs on the Field

Drake Maye 3rd Down Passing:
With Diggs On the Field: (136 Snaps)
Totals: 61/91 (67%) 812yds 6 TDs/2 INTs, 45 Passing First Downs

Without Diggs on the Field: (40 Snaps)
Totals: 9/18 (50%) 187yds 0 TDs/2 INTs, 4 Passing First Downs

Patriots Red Zone With Diggs on the Field

Drake Maye Red Zone Passing:
With Diggs On the Field: (86 Snaps)
Totals: 30/44 (68.2%) 196yds 10 TDs/1 INT, 15 Passing First Downs

Without Diggs on the Field: (58 Snaps)
Totals: 8/17 (47.1%) 65yds 4 TDs/1 INT, 6 Passing First Downs

Diggs has seen a drop-off in playing time in recent weeks. Since Week 11, he has gone from being a leading actor to being more of a role player.

Here’s a breakdown of the receiving snaps in recent weeks:

Week 11 vs Jets:
Mack Hollins: 57/67 (85.1%)
Stefon Diggs: 46/67 (68.7%)
Kyle Williams: 45/67 (67.2%)
Demario Douglas: 19/67 (28.4%)
Efton Chism 5/67 (7.5%)

Week 12 at Bengals:
Mack Hollins: 61/71 (85.9%)
Kayshon Boutte 57/71 (80.3%)
Stefon Diggs: 34/71 (47.9%)
Demario Douglas: 12/71 (16.9%)
Kyle Williams: 5/71 (7.0%)

Week 13 vs Giants
Kayshon Boutte: 49/65 (75.4%)
Mack Hollins: 49/65 (75.4%)
Stefon Diggs: 31/65 (47.7%)
Demario Dougals: 22/65 (33.8%)
Kyle Williams: 14/65 (21.5%)
Efton Chism: 2/65 (3.1%)

Week 15 vs Bills
Mack Hollins: 41/52 (78.8%)
Kayshon Boutte: 39/52 (75.0%)
Stefon Diggs: 26/52 (50%)
Demario Douglas: 10/52 (19.2%)
Kyle Williams: 5/52 (9.6%)

Why the drop-off has been the way it is is certainly interesting. McDaniels said this week it's just been due to the fact they've had fewer offensive plays as of late, but even in the previous weeks, that hasn't necessarily held true, given the totals.

I said this to someone else, but I wondered if maybe it was due to his blocking on plays away from the ball, and I pulled those numbers of when he's been out there vs when he hasn't been:

The YPC with/without him out there:

With him | Without him on the field:
Hunter Henry 12.42 vs 16.77
Demario Douglas 14.85 vs 14.93
Kayshon Boutte 17.75 vs 15.6
Mack Hollins 12 vs 12.72
TreVeyon Henderson 6.52 vs 5.14
Rhamondre Stevenson 7.93 vs 14.44

We'll see what happens tonight, but I figured I'd share this here as I thought some people might find some of it interesting.

Also, here's the link to the new dashboard for anyone who wants to be able to do your their analysis with various players:

Feels like he's still figuring out how to be in the right spot in a given situation. Seems like that's improved in recent weeks, but he still seems to have moments where he's not 100% sure of himself, or at least that's how it's looked when watching some of these games back.

A couple of questions because I think you have this data.
For the 132 without him, who has been on the field?

Do you have rushing stats with/without him?

Sure, you can play around with it. It has both the passing & receiving stats, as well as the rushing stats, and it updates with every player you add, and then set "On Field" or "Not on Field." Try it out.

What I want to know is why Kyle Williams hasn't developed into more of a contributor.
It takes time for a lot of WRs. Also, Maye appears to trust everyone else and Williams does not appear to be a primary progression very often.
You can play every down and get open but if you are always the 4th or 5th progression you won’t see the ball a lot.

I'm a bit surprised at how many snaps and targets Mack Hollins is getting, compared to Kayshon Boutte and Demario Douglas.

On the other side of the coin, Austin Hooper has disappeared. Only 16 snaps last week, zero targets in the last two games.

Diggs has been a pleasant surprise in the locker room and as a WR that the opposing defenses need to account for. The stats above support that position. That said, we are seeing that he no longer has the ability to consistently separate against man to man coverage. I hope he is on the team next year playing next to a true difference making WR or TE.

Maybe they will keep him around for another season.

Rushing plays

Diggs NOT on field 235-936 4.0
Diggs on field 166-778 4.7

So we are more effective both passing and running with Diggs on the field.

But we run 38% of the time when Diggs is on the field and 65% of the time when he isn’t so the situations may have something to do with the difference

Side note, I found a bug in the rushing TD totals (it was calculating them incorrectly), but that's been fixed.

I had the same curiosity, and it's tough because the thing I don't have is how many times they've run to his side. I'll be altering it to try and see if I can't narrow things like that down a little better to help with things like this.

Yes, that has been my conjecture as well. It's just frustrating they can't find some small, complementary way to tap his physical skill set while he gets a handle on things overall.

Frankly, his future $20 million salary expenditures can be better spent.
Diggs stats are middling at best....... 5/52 per game, only 3 TDs on the year.
His last 3 games have been anemic (3/24 - no TDs), much like past Decembers on other teams

How much premium must the team pay for a decoy?

I think it’s more that when he is on the field you are likely running against a light box due to down and distance and he is not in the field in obvious running downs.

Are you seriously complaining about a WR who leads an 11-3 team in receptions and yards with a pot'l MVP QB throwing to him?

Next year is next year. He's been exactly what this team needed this year.

Agree and we are in the minority on this. While I'm glad NE pursued him and he chose to play for them in 2025, he's not the same player he was as a boundary WR in Minnesota and Buffalo.

He's now limited to the slot where he's been struggling with separation and has guys hanging on him when he does get a reception. He's got a 2026 cap hit of $26.5M which is 13th in the NFL for WR's. Comparing what Welker and Edelman did during their times there show's the value isn't there.

Like Revis, I think he's a one and done unless he comes back on a reduced salary.

If he wasn't complaining about that he would be complaining about something else. When the Captain and his Quitters post all I hear is Gilbert Gottfried.

Dress it up anyway you want, stats show he's Jacoby Meyers.
