DeAndre Hopkins released (And Ongoing Rumors)

Agreed. But the point I made, which you might have missed, is that I think Hopkins will be chasing money, not a ring, because he has a lot of bills coming due.
I agree that he is likely chasing the money.

However, if he WERE chasing a ring, he is likely to conclude that there are better choices than the patriots.

Hopkins has made WAY over $100MILLION. Do you have any real idea of how much that is? He'll make multiple millions a year for the rest of his life just on his savings.

There's no bill EVER coming due that will stress him. not ever.

It's unlikely that Douglas or Boutte make it to the PS. No way I keep Parker over either of them.
You're that high on them, eh? Well, I'll cautiously share your optimism.

So many times, I've seen guys fall in the draft, then look like a steal, then become Shawn Wade.

I like Boutte a lot - thought is a was great pick at the position. It's a risk, but seems like he's got his head on straight and is ready to prove something. For his pocketbook, he might have been better off going back to LSU. He certainly looked like the early billing of his talent late last year, even against Georgia. Had he stayed in college, stayed healthy, and played to his talent, he might have been a high, maybe even 1st-round pick next year.

Him, Douglas, and Bolden are all very intriguing to me. And Cunningham...

Well, $100 million, minus 40% federal taxes, minus whatever state taxes where he played. Plus many athletes aren't amazing money managers. He is probably fine, but you never know.

We went through this situation as Patriot fans for twenty years, almost every time we thought a really good veteran would come to NE “ to get a ring,” they ended up going for the money. And it makes preference sense, most people are going to take the most money when they are looking at their last big contract. That’s the most likely outcome for Hopkins as well.
Or they walked out of camp with a confused look on their faces.

Money's also funny that way, where the more of it you have, the more (sometimes) you want. You start comparing yourself to other people who have millions, and suddenly you feel "poor". The part of your brain that wanted to be rich doesn't always switch off once you get there. So yeah, even if Hopkins was smart with his money and (by any average person's standards) is set for life, he may still be motivated by money. Some people just are.

Lynn Bowden was released.

You forgot to throw in the possibility of baby mommas, all too common for professional athletes. They hemorrhage money from the portfolio like nobody’s business.

I remember Vin Baker, an NBA all-star going bankrupt with all his baby mommies and his career ending due to his alcoholism. Dude earned many tens of millions.

Yep. Keep this player in KC where he belongs.

Kiss D-Hop goodbye so there was some truth about their fallout too bad for us and Mac.

That post was three years ago, and as Adam Schefter said, if they want to make it work, they will, especially if we offer Hopkins the most money.

Thanks: I feel a Offense with Rham - D-Hop -Juju and a improved T Thornton could make some noise. I feel like we are lacking an Impact player on O we need more than serviceable which is what both Bourne and Parker are.

I just believe that other teams will be willing to take a chance on them if the Pats try and get them to the Practice Squad. Douglas is like Dugger. He was a man amongst Boys at Liberty. Despite being their #1 receiver and teams planning against him, he produced.. I think that he'll do the same with some team if it's not the Pats.

Who is Shawn Wade? Do you mean Shaun Wade, the CB that the Pats traded for a few years back at the end of TC?

Douglas and Boutte are definitely intriguing. If Boutte proves that his ankle is 100%, which other teams will be watching, then he'll be someone snapped up quickly by some team..

I believe 50YL was referring to Isiah Bolden, our 7th-round DB from Jackson State...

Too bad about Lynn Bowden however; I wanted to see what he could do here, after a full off-season & TC... He's still >> Ty Monty or JJ Taylor.

Looks like a strong possibility Hopkins reunites with Watson in Cleveland.

Grossed 114 million... thats a lot of cheddar...

If he was smart with his money then yes, you are absolutely 100% correct... he should never have to worry about another bill in his or his kids lifetimes...

but if he wasn't smart, or got ripped off, different story...

ask Adrian Peterson about blowing thru 100 million... those last few seasons of his career werent about catching emmitt smith... they were about him trying to make some money because he lost nearly everything he had earned up til that point...
