DeAndre Hopkins released (And Ongoing Rumors)

My only concern is that He and Julio had nearly identical seasons when Julio left Atlanta after 2020. And D Hop leaving AZ this year.

Both missed a lot of time, but still had pretty good numbers for the time they played. (Both even played 9 games and had roughly 700 yards in those games played) But both also had nagging injury issues leading up to their departure, and were hitting the wrong side of 30.

Julio clearly fell way off a cliff and is unemployed two short years later. Many WR’s seem to anymore once they hit their early 30’s.

The game is so much faster now, guys just can’t keep up anymore as they age.
Deandre is already not very quick to begin with. I do worry he may follow that trend.

The problem with that thought process is that Hopkins didn't miss a lot of time for INJURY. He was suspended and then sat out the final two games by choice.
So, you have 7 games missed due to injury 2 seasons ago.. If that's holding you back, then it's somewhat irrational.

I’m aware of that. From what I’ve heard though, he’s had nagging injuries in general. Also reports from GM’s believing he’s lost his speed (which he’s never been a burner to begin with)

Hopkins is more of a technician than a speed guy. I’m not as worried about him being slower in a straight line. Thornton can do that.

Hopkins looks more like a possession receiver than anything else. He's not a game-breaker like Tyreek Hill or Waddle, etc., but he'll still really help some teams out. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in Cleveland so he can play with Watson again. The Browns have nearly $14 million in cap space.

He would command the #1 CB and teams to game plan for him. Thornton, assuming he makes a huge second year jump, could be a big time gamebreaker in that situation.

Still don't think the Pats will get him, but he could help this team.

BTW, the Pats also have $14 million in cap and would free up another $6 million by cutting or trading Parker, who would become redundant to Hopkins if the Pats signed him.

Going after Hopkins is a no-brainer. I still contend he won't want to play here because of O'Brien. I'd say he'd rather avoid a mediocre quarterback like Mac too but he's been getting it done his entire career with lesser quarterbacks. If there's mutual interest for him to sign here then the Patriots can't let the opportunity pass. He's the WR1 and it drops everyone else down into more representative spots (JuJu WR2, Parker WR3, and Bourne WR4). Along with the Stevenson led running game, a pair of decent TEs, and improved offensive line play, this is an offense I can start to believe in.

Yeah that is also what I'm thinking. Parker becomes redundant and is easy cash. They could give Hopkins a lot more 2023 cash than most other teams, dump Parker, and still have a comfortable cushion to operate with for the rest of the season.

I also would not be surprised if Trent Brown gets let go if Anderson and Reiff look fine. They can save a good chunk of money there.

I disagree. I want to the team to add Hopkins. Not flip him with Parker. The offense just isn't good enough right now to compete with the better teams in the conference (of which there are many). Adding a player like Hopkins could provide a big boast to what they already have. Would Hopkins be an upgrade to Parker? Yes. But I'd prefer Hopkins, JuJu, Parker, and Bourne over Hopkins, JuJu, Bourne, and Thornton. In the latter scenario, Thornton already has been tasked with compensating for the "loss" of Agholor, so I don't see him carrying the full weight of a WR4 (or higher with an injury above him). To me, from Meyers to JuJu was mostly a lateral move so I don't see a big improvement there. I'm not a believer in twiggy so I don't see him exceeding even just filling the shoes of Agholor. But Hopkins is a significant addition to our current group, no subtractions on the backend.

You realize they only play a few wide receivers on every play right? Usually between 2 and 4,.

Reports stating Browns a strong possibility for landing Hop.

Too much focus on weapons, not enough focus on the delivery system.

What we know...
BB had zero faith in Mac launching Hail Mary's in multiple games. (BB opted for Pop Warner laterals)
BB is all in on providing Mac with jump ball/50-50 specialists (Harry/Parker)
Screen passes are being emphasized so far this off season.

Factor in all the OL castoffs Bill bought in free agency this offseason after their former teams decided "we need upgrades"

I think you are underestimating JuJu's ability of YAC in an O'Brien offense. Meyers' was clutch catching the ball when throwing to him, but if you hit him for 5-6 yards, that is all you are going to get. JuJu will take a five yard pass and make it 10-15 yards. I think as long as he can stay healthy, he is going to be a big improvement. Potentially a Welker/Edelman type of improvement. I know he isn't exactly like those guys, but he is similar in the ability to get YAC.

And I think Bourne will live up closer to our expectations of him from last year. He is another YAC guy and O'Brien loves to have plays designed to get YAC. And those short quick throws plays into Mac's strength of quick release and decision making. Basically they both excel at stuff Patricia removed from the offense last year.

And as pointed out, they cannot play Hopkins, Parker, Bourne, and JuJu on the same plays more than rare exceptions. And O'Brien loves the two TE set (and Mac said this week that that ain't changing this year). So with both TEs on the field a lot and at least one RB, you are mostly going to see two WRs on the field at the same time. Some three WR sets thrown in. You will rarely see four WR on the field at the same time. Almost never five.

And I think Thornton has the potential to be a WR #2. But who knows yet.

IDK, I think you still have to gamble on Brown. When motivated, he is a a very good tackle that can play both sides of the line. The fact he is in a contract year, you gotta hope he is motivated enough. If he is looking to retire after the season, he could be just playing for a paycheck though.

So who the **** exactly mentioned anything about what happened after the Miami game?

****ing cheerleaders...

And it was your very own Dear Leader who signed the dude in the first place.
