Source: Danny Amendola is not going to have sports hernia surgery. Return now in framework of a few weeks

And there we have it...

dr Thomas gill former redsox doctor. if he is still the patriots doctor [I assume he is]. I would get a second and third opinion if I was amendola.

He has had at least two other opinions. My guess is that he had another two or three after that.

sucks he didnt have it a couple of weeks ago.

What makes you think he needs it? He may have decided not to have the surgery because there is no need for the surgery. He could have had another opinion that said there is no sports hernia. If he had a sports hernia, he would probably have to have the surgery before returning.

Say what you want about that kid - IMO the kid is really tough...

(Also, I do not agree that he is made of glass - I just think the guy he is replacing was unusually durable..)

I never questioned his toughness. He came back in a few weeks from that clavicle injury and played on this in Week 1. He just has a propensity to get injured at bad times.

Call it an uneasy feeling based on past experience.

Now that we know he won't need the surgery, I think he comes back for week 5 against Cincinnati at the latest. The schedule schematics make for an interesting turnaround. I doubt he plays in the SNF game against the Falcons, and maybe he could possibly be even out for the Bengals game too depending on the recovery process.

Get well soon, Danny boy.

I hope this doesn't blow up in there face. when dr Thomas gill is involved it could. I cant believe they hired him after what happened with ellsbury and the redsox.

Derek Havens ?@PatriotsHaven 26m

Risk in no surgery route for Amendola it might not heal back to 100% and good chance he re-aggravates it. If he strains it again, surgery

Given the fact that they already tried 3 weeks rest and he promptly re-injured it, the Patriots seem to be trying the same thing again and hoping for a different outcome.

If that report is true, then hopefully that decision doesn't come back to bite them in the ass.

When did he have 3 weeks rest?

Injured 8/16
re-injured 12/8
23 days

Thats not taking 3 weeks off. You know that. Why does t take 50 posts for you to accept that your comment that taking 3 weeks off would be doing the same thing and hoping for a different result? Its really OK to admit you were wrong. I promise no one will laugh at you.

2 questions/comments that I'd have about the Amendola injury:

1--maybe they'll wait another couple of weeks past the 3 week timeframe that they tried last time? Of course that'd put his return around 5 weeks though.

2--even IF Havens is right and he would need surgery if he strains it again, could that be put off until the end of the season? It'd obviously be a bad scenario, but it could be possible that he could get through the season with some management of the pain and rest.

Any way you look at it, it's cause for concern. I tend to agree with you that they may be hoping for a different result from the same action, and we all know the definition of that

If Havens' report is true, and surgery only keeps him out 3-4 weeks, then I'd rather they just bite the bullet now. Yes, it's bad timing (right as we hit the hardest part of the schedule) but 10-6 should make the playoffs, and I really don't like the idea of putting a compromised Amendola out there and basically just waiting for him to reaggravate the injury and need surgery then instead. That's the kind of choice you make in November, not in September.
